Reflections on Observation Task 2: Teaching a Phonics Lesson
1. What program is used in your school to teach phonics?
 Song of the sound.

2. How is phonics taught in your school?

 They used technology, show the students video song “song of a sound song,
Phonics”. Introduce the letter by showing flashcard sound with pictures.
Teach the students how to pronounce the sound. Show the students flashcards
words and pictures start with the sound. Let the students pronounce the sound
and give the teacher word start with the sound. The teacher shows the
students how to write the sound and let the students write it with their magic
finger in the air. The teacher gives all the students a chance to write the letter
on the board. The teacher provides activities that develop the student’s skills.
For example, when students have creativity activity, for the sound \R\
students had a craft activity to decorate their raining or rainbow to choosing
any colours as they like even if it doesn’t like a real rainbow or raining to see
their creativity. The teacher assessment the students at the end of the lesson
to make sure they understand.

3. What was the focus of the lesson?

 The teacher focuses on teaching the students the shape and the name of the letter and
the sound. Recognized the small and capital letter. Identify the words that start with
the sound of the letter “H” and teach the students how to pronounce the sound od
letter “H” and developing their writing skills.

4. Were the learners engaged in the phonics lesson? If they were, select (a); if they were
not, select (b).
a. Describe the different types of active engagement activities that
the teacher used.
 The teacher starts to engage the students by showing them a video song of sound and

4
keep them sing a song. Let them remind the letter that they learned before. The
teacher has cards of sound that learned before, then she shows the students story of
the new letter that they will take today and after that, the teacher asks the students to
guess which letter we will learn it today. She has a box of a flashcard of a new letter

select (a); if they did not, select (b)

a) Describe the different types of learning center activities that the

students did.
 In circle center, the students form the small letter and capital letter
\H\ by using cubes.
 In math center, the students form the letter by using geometric
