Meet the Coaches
Eric Laskovy Head Coach
Coach Laskovy enters his 19th year in the Kellogg Community College Baseball Program. He is entering his twelfth year as the
Head Coach. Over the course of his first eleven years as head coach, the Bruins have won multiple championships, including
seven MCCAA conference titles; 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2017 and four Regional Championships resulting in
trips to the NJCAA Division II World Series (in 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2015). The Bruins finished their season as National
Runner-Up in 2007.
Coach Laskovy has seen 12 former players drafted or signed to professional contracts during his tenure. KCC continues to
place a high number of players each year into quality four-year institutions across the country. The Bruins have sent 93 student
athletes on to four-year institutions to play baseball in the past 11 years.
Kellogg baseball has been equally impressive in the classroom, consistently maintaining a team GPA of over 3.0, including
a 3.18 in 2010, a 3.2 in 2013, a 3.28 in 2014, a 3.31 in 2015, and a 3.17 in 2016 with the team receiving NJCAA Academic
Team honors along the way. “We are extremely proud of the balance we have created on and off the field,” stated Coach Laskovy. “Our student athletes’
commitment to academics, athletics, and the community has shown in the amount of players that have transferred to and been successful at the next level.”
Eric attended Paw Paw High School where he was an All-State football player and All-Conference in baseball and basketball. After transferring from
Kalamazoo Valley Community College, he was a two- year starter in baseball at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he earned a Bachelor’s
Degree in Health Science. In 2001, Coach Laskovy earned a Master’s Degree in Physical Education from Western Michigan University. From 2006 to 2012,
Eric has worked as an Associate Scout for the Cincinnati Reds. In 2013, he became an Associate Scout with the Atlanta Braves. Along with coaching the
Bruins, Coach Laskovy teaches full-time in the Physical Education Department at KCC. Eric and his wife Shannon reside in Battle Creek and have a daughter,
Kellen Grace.

Jim Miller Associate Head Coach

Coach Miller begins his 21st season at Kellogg Community College. He attended Climax-Scotts High School where he lettered
in four varsity sports, winning several All-Conference awards. Coach Miller spent over 20 years on active military duty with the
United States Army before retiring in 1992. During his military career Jim played and coached baseball, basketball, and fast-
pitch softball at several levels within the Army.
Upon retiring, Jim spent four years as Assistant Coach at Comstock High School before joining the coaching staff at KCC.
Coach Miller has been a part of all 5 KCC World Series appearances. He has also spent several years coaching summer baseball in
Battle Creek, leading Del Seat Builders to a league Championship and appearing twice in the Stan Musial World Series. Jim has
been inducted into the Battle Creek Amateur Wall of Fame for his contributions to amateur baseball in the city and region.
He is a graduate of the United States Army’s Sergeants Majors Academy and also attended Central Texas College. Jim and his
wife Lucy have been married for close to 40 years. Their daughter Mary and husband Andy recently welcomed their first child,
Leah, to the family.

Travis Wade Assistant Coach

Coach Travis Wade starts his first year with the Bruins as an Assistant Coach, focusing on the Bruin pitching staff. Wade played
baseball at Kellogg Community College and Eastern Michigan University. He had a 13-year professional baseball playing career,
including pitching for the Houston Astros organization at the AAA level. In 2000, he was a Florida State League All-Star as a
closer and was promoted to AA where his team won a Championship. He was named Rolaids Relief Pitcher of the year and a
2001 All-Star selection. Travis has 535 Professional appearances. 706 innings pitched, 539 career strikeouts, and over 100 saves.
Travis finished his professional career overseas in Taiwan.
Following his playing career, Travis became a pitching coach at the professional level and began working with young
athletes in the offseason. He was the pitching coach in the Canam league and the Golden league, where he worked under the
1984 World Series Tiger Championship team Daryl Evans. In 2015, Travis spent a year as the manager of the Kalamazoo Growlers
of the Northwood’s league.
Wade is a native of Climax, Michigan, graduating from Climax-Scotts High School. Travis and his wife Colene reside in Augusta along with their son
Emerson. They are expecting their second child this spring.

Alex Goodwin Assistant Coach

Coach Alex Goodwin starts his first year with the Bruins as an Assistant Coach, focusing on the catchers for this year’s squad.
Goodwin played baseball at Kellogg Community College during the 2014 & 2015 seasons as a catcher and outfielder for the
Bruins. He was a starter for the 2015 MCCAA Champions and World Series Bruins team.
Along with bringing a youthful energy to the coaching staff, Goodwin was a prototype of success of a Bruin baseball player.
Goodwin garnered Academic All-MCCAA and Academic All-Conference awards as a Bruin. He also was also named to the All-
MCCAA 2nd Team for his play in the field. Goodwin also won the coveted KCC ‘Dirt Bag’ Award after his sophomore season
playing for the Bruins.
After his playing days at KCC, Goodwin just finished his playing career at Western Michigan University in 2017, serving as a
catcher and outfielder for the Broncos as he finishes his degree at WMU.
Coach Goodwin is originally from Midland High School in Midland, Michigan.
