THERMO MECHANICALLY TREATED (TMT) REBARS
Roofings group is very aggressive in bringing & adopting most modern state of art
technology in to the region & in to Uganda. It has demonstrated it by setting up most
modern WIRE GALVANIZING PLANT in phase one & commissioning of a state of the art
flat steel complex in technical collaberation with YODOGAWA-Japan producing high
quality COLD ROLLED, GALVANIZED & PREPAINTED/COLOR COATED STEEL products at
Namanve-Uganda.
PRODUCTION CAPACITIES
After the Finishing stand, the hot bar passes through the Quenching system and 5

receives a quick but intensive cooling on the surface with high pressured
water.
This converts the surface of the bar into hard Martensite structure while
core remains Austenitic.
Induction Furnace
The hot core reheats the cooled surface and hardens the external
Martensite converting it into Tempered Martensite.

APPLICATIONS
ROOFINGS TMT rebar is the brand name for Roofings Group reinforcement bars
produced through a superior technology of TMT production vide Liquid metal,
continuous billet casting, hot rolling, quenching and tempering process. It is
ideal for application in RCC structures, flyovers, dams, bridges, ports, and other
critical structures where high yield strength and low weight is required without
compromising on ductility. In most of the modern structures welding of TMT rebar is
a must, here Roofings TMT comes handy.
PRODUCT PROFILE
Sizes available:
Roofings TMT reinforcement bars are available in the following sizes
(Nominal diameter in mm): 8, 12, 16, 20, 25 and 32 Length – 6 meters + standard 12
Meter. Bundle weight – 1MT-4MT
Mechanical Properties
Roofings TMT rebar is a unique combination of strength, ductility, bendability and
weld ability as shown in the table below:

MICROSTRUCTURE
The Macro and Micro structure of ROOFINGS TMT Rebar shows a dark etched
peripheral rim of tempered martensite and a grey core of ferrite pearlite. The
tempered martensite surface layer is very hard while the pearlite core is soft. The
result is a structure with high yield strength combined with high ductility and higher
elongation.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
The Quality Assurance Process ensures that quality checks are done at each stage of
the production process, starting from raw material to finished products.
Finished products are subjected to stringent quality checks such as chemical analysis,
mechanical testing, surface inspections, dimensional control and metallographic
investigation.

Earthquake resistant.
Bonds better with cement and concrete compared to conventional material due to
superior rib configuration.
Savings in steel consumption i.e. less steel required to make building or a structure
(approximately 8-15%).

THERMO MECHANICALLY TREATED (TMT) REBARS
BENEFITS
Excellent ductility, bend ability and higher fatigue strength, which makes it suitable
for structures and foundations subject to dynamic and seismic loading.
Corrosion Resistance Steel Bars - Hscrs which is widely used suitable in coastal
areas and weather conditions. Manufactured using chemical elements, such as
copper, phosphorous, nickel and chromium, range of rebars is capable to bear the
humid conditions of the coastal areas. HSCRS QST Rebars come with minimum
yield strength of 500 MPa, which ranges from 8 mm to 40 mm of any length up
to 30 meters. Characterized by low carbon steel, these rebars contain excellent
strength and ductility, corrosion resistant properties. Moreover, range of Steel
Rebars – HSCRS has replaced the traditional Coated Cold Twisted Deformed (CTD)/
TMT Rebars that are used in the construction of reinforced cement concrete (RCC)
structures and buildings.
