Summary
(OSS Storefront on Melrose, Los Angeles) [10]
“Ballin like an athlete but got no jumper”-Gucci Mane

This Gucci Mane verse was a big shout to the brand, No Jumper, and is now

popularly introduced on every podcast and/or videos. The podcast No Jumper hosted

by Adam Grandmaison, commonly known as Adam22, has entrupernerered a new

“Underground Soundcloud Interview” platform, for rappers to get noticed on [3]. The

podcast was brought up by Adam22 and his fellow business partner Chris Long, when

they both opened their first BMX parts store on Skidrow in Los Angeles. Adam’s

intentions for the podcast was to just talk with up and coming artist in the local area

about their struggles and their future career path.

As, Adam began to interview more and more rappers he was able to brand

himself, as a tastemaker of the rap culture [6]. The success wasn’t an overnight success

but it look years of switching up the variety of interviews, such as reaching outside the

underground rap culture and to have many different interviews. Within the next couple

years, Adam was able to relocate the store, ONSOMESHIT a bmx store, to Melrose in

Los Angeles; this is where all the podcasts happen, in the back of the OSS store [3]. As

Adams podcast connections were growing he was also able to interview many
mainstream rappers, such as Lil Yachty. But, with the help of Adam he’s able to use his

platform to present underground music to his die hard fan base around the world.

Host
This is Adam GrandMaison also known as Adam22 [4]

Adam Grandmaison is a tastemaker for rap but as a teenager he rooted his

music from rock / heavy metal, listening to artist like Iron Maiden, Slayer and Slipknot.

The influence of rap culture wasn’t introduced to Adam until he became a well known

BMXer in the Los Angeles. The obsessions of bmx culture grew as Adam started his

very own BMX parts store, and as he became more successful he saved up money to

move to the most popular street in Los Angeles, Melrose. The BMX shop,

ONSOMESHIT, started to become a local hangout for everyone in the area. Adam was

noticed he has surrounded himself with underground rappers and underground

influencers. At this time of Adams career, he decided to record and post to Youtube his

conversations with his underground friends, which later became “The coolest podcast in

the world”.

“It has enhanced the media coverage of rising stars before they’re nationally known, becoming a

new arena where these upcoming artists can get their first ray of lights and eyes on

them”(Podcast Power: From Combat Jack to Adam22).

Adam was well known for his making a stamp of approval on artist he truly liked. He has

had some successful podcast in the past such as:

Lil Pump
Lil Pump is a 16 year old, also phrased by Adam 22 as “Trapper of the Century”, who

was introduced to in the early years of No Jumper, as picture above. Adam was able to see the

potential of this individuals’ music, and started promoting him on his social media’s.. Lil Pump

is currently billboarding a lot of the songs he puts out today such as Gucci Gang, . Lil Pump has

personally came out to say that Adam22 has helped his career skyrocket with the ongoing

support of media coverage, from posting youtube videos or posting his music on famous

underground platform Soundcloud.

Xxxtentatacion
Xxxtentatcion is a 19 year old rapper, who was introduced in 2017 by building a name

for himself from his breakout song “Look at me”, and with the support of Adam saying he will

become his manager he has became a mainstream artist sense. Since, Xxxtentacion was a hot

topic in the news due to felony charges, Adam was able to gain more of an audience from the

content media coverage of Xxxtentacion. As his music become more popular, people began to

research Xxxtentacion come up, but at the time No Jumper was the only one talking about him so

Adam was able to reach over a million views on his interview video with Xxxtentatcion. [9]

Host Chat

Host chats are the videos on the No Jumper podcast, because its not rappers interview; it's

more of a discussion about recent topics with Adam and his co-workers/friends. Even though, the

Host Chat podcasts gets the lowest videos, its the true fans who want to learn more about the

opinions of the host and co-host. As of 2017, the host chats started turning into “Streetwear

Review” because of the high demand of fan shipping in there clothing companies. Since, Adam

does accept “fan mail” , the entrepreneurs of his fan base took advantage of it and started

flooding his PO box with too much to handle. Today's, host chats have turned into a

advertisement video for the fans. [8]

Media Style
This is the No Jumper podcasting table in the back of the OSS storefront
on Skidrow [9]
“I know it opens you up to where people can accuse you of being a drug addict or being crazy,

but I’m more than happy to put myself out there. If I had a PR debacle right now, my saving

grace would be that there are these people that feel like they know me because of that openness. I

never want it to feel fake.”

-Adam Grandmaison

Adam’s media style has always been very upfront and honest about his life. For example,

he has mentioned his childhood and early adult years of illegal ways of obtaining money such as

scamming checks. As Adma talks to the underground rappers he’s able to relate there rough

lifestyle to his own, which in a way helps the natural flow of the podcast. The podcast style has

grown to a “recorded conversation” with little to no common interview questions. What makes

his content stand out is the complete openness and explicit content discussions with the host and

interviewee have with each other [2].
