aquaMAX -Basic 360 Series

Chapter 1. Introduction
1-1. Introduction
The YL Basic 360 Series is the water purification system that produces pure water from tap or underground
water. The purified water by the Basic 360 Series is adequate to use as a laboratory grade water or supply for
ultra-pure water production system. The components of the Basic 360 Series are as follows.

1-2. Operation Principle

The Basic 360 Series Water Purification System produces decontaminated pure water by using reverse
osmosis to filter particles, inorganics, organics and bacteria from water supply. The water supply is fed through a
prefilter to get rid of the large particles and the pre-filtered water flows to a carbon filter to be removed chlorine.
Then the produced water is pressurized by a booster pump and delivered to the RO Membrane Pack to be
purified. The purified water is used as laboratory grade water or feed water for ultra-high pure water.

TM nd
In use of the aquaMAX -Basic 361 or 362 System, it produces 2 grade distilled water removed cation and
anion through an ion exchange pack.

1-4. Configuration
1-4-1. R.O. Membrane Pack and Prefilter(PRE PACK)
The Water supply(tap water or treated municipal water) is fed through a pre-filter to be separated large and small
particles by filtration. The permeate water then enters the RO Pack housing and permeates through the
2
spiral-wound RO membrane. For the Basic 360 Series, when RO membrane is pressurized at 5.5 Kg/cm ,
approximately 70% of the input water is continuously withdrawn from the system through a reject valve and the
remaining 30% of the water permeates through the membrane to be filtered. The productivity of RO membrane
is varied depending on pressure and used time.

1-4-2. Booster Pump

The booster pump of the Basic 360 Series is a silent diaphragm pump. It can transfer water flow rate of
maximum 60 liter/hour, however the purified water can be produced at maximum 10 liter/hour when supplied
2
with RO pressure of 5.5 Kg/cm . The amount of the purified water can be varied by temperature, used time and
pressure of RO membrane.

1-4-3. Pressure Switch

2
If the inlet pressure of a water supply is less than 0.8 Kg/m , the pressure switch automatically stops the
2
booster pump to prevent the pump from damage and if it is more than 7.0 Kg/cm , it stops the operation to
2
prevent the filter from damage. The inlet pressure of water supply should be more than 1.0 Kg/cm , because the
pressure drops down after passing through the prefilter. In case the switch stops the booster pump at low
2)
pressure (less than 0.8 Kg/m , you should raise the inlet pressure first to drive the booster pump again.
2.
※It is required to install an extra external pump if the pressure of water supply is less than average 0.8 Kg/m .

1-4-4. Drain Valve and Automatic Flushing

The drain valve consisted of a needle valve and a solenoid valve is designed to control the backpressure of RO
membrane. The reverse osmosis is displayed on the pressure gauge mounted inside of the system. The Basic
360 Series automatically turns on the drain valve every 30 minutes for 1 minute so that the contaminants
collected on the RO membrane surface can be flushed away by a high velocity flush of water.

1-4-5. Water Quality Monitoring

The Basic 360 Series monitors water quality by measuring conductivity at 3 different points. The measured
value indicates ion drain ratio and time of filter replacement.

The YL aquaMAX can reject more than 99% of inorganic and organic contaminants in the feed water. Thus,
after permeation of the reverse osmosis membrane, the purified water contains less than 1% of the
contaminants present in the feed water. The aquaMAX uses 5.0 ㎛ prefilter to filter large and small particles in
order to prevent clogging or fouling of the RO membrane.

occurrence, it’s required to press the Operate/Standby key, to release the error message. During error display,
the flushing of the RO cartridge is performed as well except feedwater malfunction.

〔Table 3-1〕Display and Causes of System Troubles

Error Message Causes and Symptoms

¢FAULT¢
The feedwater pressure is low.
LOW FEED PRESS The switch for the water supply is turned off and the pump is stopped.

If there is high pressure occurred in the system, decompressing gets started to

¢FAULT¢
protect filters and pump from damage.
HIGH PRESS ERROR If the high pressure still remains even though the decompressing, the system is
stopped to protect.
¢OPERATE¢
The water quality of the R.O. permeate is not good.
R.O. WATER BAD Even after the Fault LED on, the operation keeps working.
¢OPERATE¢
The water quality of Ion Exchange filtrate is not good.
ION WATER BAD Even after the Fault LED on, the operation keeps working.

¢OPERATE¢
An alarm message pops up when all filters and pump need to be replaced after
CHANGE FILTER lifetime.

The reservoir tank is fully filled with water.

WATER TANK FULL At this moment, the system is on「Standby」mode until the water level is
lowered.

- In case of overuse of filter life, the system stops the operation with FILTER time CHECK message when the
power on. To get back to 「Standby」mode , press Operate/Standby button.
- To replace filters, run CHANGE FILTER function on Service menu.

■ Standby■ ■Operate■
FILTERtime CHECK RO Filter Change

- Normal operation is possible without filter replacement, but the「filter(to be replaced) change」
message appears every 30 min.

Chapter 4. Maintenance
4-1. Maintenance and Solutions
The YL aquaMAX system requires no special maintenance procedures. However, in order to ensure the
expected system performance and long-term trouble-free operation, it is essential to observe the following
points.

Filters in the aquaMAX Basic

[Figure 4-1] Filters in the aquaMAX Basic

: There are total 3 types of filters used in aquaMAX Basic. (2 types when no ion exchange filter used)

The filter used at first is PRE PACK(The middle one out of three shown. The right one when there are only 2
filters). It’s consisted of a prefilter and carbon filter. Even though lifetime depends on water quality of feed
water and amount of produced water, it usually requires replacement every 3 month ( 2~3 weeks with bad
quality of feed water).

The second filter that water passes through is RO PACK (The very left one out of 3 filters or 2 filters) and it’s
consisted of a R.O.mebrane and carbon filter. It only needs the replacement every year and the right time to
replace will be shown on the LCD. On operate mode, water quality can checked (Measure key  Select “ RO
water”). The right value for water quality is within 5uS-10uS, and if it’s higher than 10uS, filter has to be replaced.

The third one is POST PACK (The very right one.) and it’s consisted of 2 ea of ion filter. Its life is around 3
months and the right time to replace will be shown on the LCD.
On operate mode, water quality can checked (Measure key  Select “ ION water”).Water quality within
5MΩ ~10MΩ is normal, but if it’s lower than 5MΩ , filter has to be replaced.

※ NOTE : It is required to perform extra pretreatment to get expected filter life if feedwater is ground
water or water from somewhere with a lot of turbidity or iron.

① Close the feed water.

② Push the Service key and Select key at Standby mode to perform “pressure down”. Perform it twice.( It takes
about 8 sec at one time) . Run “Change Filter” to replace filter when the filter life is done.
③ Open the door to replace filters.
* Take out the filter using a tool for use of filter replacement.
(Once hearing the "click" sound from the clip, grab the filter and slowly pull it out.)
* After separating the filters, press the housing by making sounds like “ click”.
* Connect the filters by each name. (The right connection makes sounds like “ click”.)
* For the R.O membrane pack, press down the fitting clip on the lower part of filter making a sound like "click"
to remove the connected fitting.
☞ CAUTION : Put a beaker at the external end of drain tube in case small amount of waste water can be
drained.
④ Open the feedwater.
⑤ Run “ Flush” on 「Standby」mode.(Service key  Select “Flush”.)

4-3. Trouble Shooting

When the system is not normally operated, follow the procedures as described below.

In case the system doesn’t operate normally:

Check the system is operated at appropriate power and changes in pressure.
We don’t guarantee any malfunctions from operations by not following user manual.

In case the system doesn’t work:

① Open the rear door and check if the fuse is short. There is a 250V and 1A fuse.

Low Permeate(Purified Water) Flow Rate

① If the RO pressure is so low, it effects to the amount of purified water.
② If the water temperature is too low, the flow rate can be lowered.
③ If the RO membrane is blocked or contaminated, the flow rate drops and the pressure is also rapidly
increased.
