SmartPlant Instrumentation Upgrade

Overview
This document describes the procedure for upgrading the SmartPlant Instrumentation
database to Version 7.0.

Caution

• Before performing the upgrade procedure, we strongly recommend that you open
the Special Instructions.pdf file and read the various important notes and
prerequisites for users upgrading the database to Version 7.0.

Upgrading the Database

You must upgrade all the domains in which your want to work in this SmartPlant
Instrumentation version. The time needed for upgrade depends on the database size. For a
large database, the upgrade process can take several hours.
The purpose of the upgrade procedure is to adapt the structure of the existing database to
the structure of a newly installed database. First, you upgrade the Admin data, then start the
Administration module and upgrade your domain data. If you encounter problems during the
upgrade process, please contact your local SmartPlant Instrumentation provider or the
Intergraph Support. To locate your Intergraph Support service provider, use a World Wide
Web browser to connect to:
http://ppm.intergraph.com/support/.
If you have a database of an earlier version than the version of the current installation, you
are prompted to upgrade your current database when you start the Administration module or
SmartPlant Instrumentation.

Note

• If you have installed the software on a local network, you can perform the
upgrade procedure only from the station which has been set as the Admin station
during the installation setup. See Running SmartPlant Instrumentation Setup for
the appropriate database platform in this Installation Guide to learn how to
determine the SmartPlant Instrumentation network status in a multi-user
environment.

To upgrade your database

1. Start the Administration module from the Logon Information dialog box, enter your
System Administrator name and password and click OK.

2. When prompted to upgrade the Admin schema, click Yes.

3. In the Database Upgrade dialog box, accept the default LOG.TXT file or click Browse to
specify another .txt file to be used as a log file.

Notes

• The log file contains the upgrade process information of your current or
previous upgrade session.

• You should enter a log file name to view the audit trail of the upgrade and
any errors that may occur.

• If the upgrade stops for any reason (for example, insufficient memory), you
can resume the upgrade process from where it stopped. If you obtain an
error which cannot be corrected, contact Intergraph Support with a
description of the error. Make sure you have your log file available when
contacting Intergraph Support.

4. Click OK to start upgrading the Admin schema.

Notes

• If your database platform is SQL Server, and if your current database version
is earlier than 5.3, the software opens the SQL Server Connection dialog
box, where you need to enter the SQL Server System Administrator logon
password. This password must match the password that the SQL Server
System Administrator specified when performing the SQL Server installation
and when running the DB Setup Utility. Clicking Connect in this dialog box
performs the connection to the SQL Server master database and then starts
the upgrade session automatically.

• On completion of the Admin schema upgrade process, the software records

the upgrade session information in the log file that you specified. Also, the
software generates the ERRORLOG.TXT. If the upgrade process completed
without any errors, the ERRORLOG.TXT file is empty. If this file contains error
records, you can send it to Intergraph Support.

5. After the upgrade process is completed successfully, log on to the Administration module
as System Administrator and on the toolbar, click .

6. In the Domain Definition window, select the required domain to upgrade and on the
toolbar, click .
