ENGLISH LANGUAGE PANEL

POLICY STATEMENT 2018


PREAMBLE

This Policy statement outlines set guidelines which teachers in the English Panel,
SMK Cheras undertake to carry out in a systematic manner in order to meet and
achieve the objectives of the English Language Panel.

Aims and Objectives


1. To improve the command of the English Language of students at SMK
Cheras.
2. To raise the passing rate of examination candidates in both school and public
examinations.
3. To prepare students to interact with people in the world outside once they
leave school.

The Policy

Exercise Books and Folders/Files


1. For the subject of English Language, students at SMK Cheras, with the
exception of Remove students will use four exercise books which are to be
labelled as follows:

 Grammar/Vocabulary
 Comprehension & Summary
 Literature
 Essay/ Composition

2. All the designated exercise books with the exception of Essay/ Composition
will be of the short variety. Form 1, 2 and 3 students will use the specially
printed long variety for Essay/Composition. Form 4 and 5 students are
allowed to use Folders/Files for their Essay/Composition.

Colour coding

1. The English Panel of SMK Cheras will adopt a colour coding system by which
books can be easily distinguished

Grammar/Vocabulary Yellow
Comprehension & Summary Blue
Literature Red
Essay/ Composition Green
Number of Exercises

1. The stipulated number of exercises listed below outlines the basic minimum
for the various levels of learners according to their differing levels of
proficiency of the English Language,
