Chapter 1

Introduction

Background of the Study

In today’s world where people have something to do 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, heath

and wellness is often compromise. Wellness, as defined by World Health Organization, is a

complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or

infirmity.

People are not mechanical machines. It is inevitable for people to feel exhausted at the

end of the day due to burdensome workloads and other factors in the society that contributes to

stress. Because of the growing trends, majority of the people are now thinking about health more

than anything. Indulging oneself to some leisure and recreational activities is one way of

adapting a healthy lifestyle Leisure and recreation plays a significant role in one’s overall well-

being, they allow balance lifestyle from work and non-work related activities. People doesn’t

mind spending money and time to various leisure and recreation activities to relax and rejuvenate

physical and mental well-being. They know that the time and the money spent on such activities

are well-compensated because of various benefits gained.

Spa and wellness centers gives people the outlet where they can have total relaxation and

cope up with stress. Marjorie P. Lopingco, president of the Spa Association of the Philippines (as

cited in Poblete, 2007) agrees that spas are brain-savers… they are oases, havens, and enclaves

of solace.

Spa and wellness center with organic garden is designed to cater customers need of total

relaxation and total satisfaction. Careful planning is done to provide quality products and
