expresión muy antigua, que data de 1792, que
se refiere a la situación literal de perderse en el
bosque y encontrar la salida.
SHRINKING VIOLET (=Someone that is shy and quiet). - Ser una persona muy tímida.

A person who is very shy or modest and does

not like to attract attention:

-Se refiere a una persona que es

extremadamente tímida. El acto de encoger
(shrinking) significa que estás tratando de
hacerte pequeño para no llamar la atención.

To bark up the wrong tree (=to misunderstand something): errar el tiro → If

you think she’s going to lend you Money, you’re barking up the wrong tree. She
never lends anyone anything.

Last straw (=the final act before you lose patience): la gota que colma el vaso →
She’s always been rude to me, but it was the last straw went she started
insulted my mother.

Olive branch (=a gesture of peace): dar una ofrenda de paz → The offer could be
seen as an olive branch..

To be out of the woods (= to emerge from a dangerous situation): estar fuera

de peligro → It’s too soon to say if either airline is out of the woods yet.

To be a shrinking violet (=someone that is shy and quiet): ser muy tímido/a →
She was a shrinking violet until she went away to college.
