Table Manners Report

Table manners are the rules of etiquette while you are having a meal at a table with
other people. On 18th February 2017, class of XII-C visited Grand Royal Panghegar Hotel to
attended the table manners education, the room was in Amartapura A ballroom. Me and my
friends wore a formal clothes, boys wore a suit and girls wore a dress.
When we came to the room, Mr Harry introduced himself as our guide. He told us the
timeline of the event. Before we started, we were divided into 4 groups and had a hoteltour.
My group’s tourguide was Mr. Wawan. The first place we went was on the 3rd floor. There
was a pool, fitness center, tennis court and a large futsal court. The futsal court was
magnificent, I really wanted to play in there. Next, we went to 5th floor. It was a hotel room.
The room was so comfortable with a nice decoration. I ensured a peaceful night’s sleep in
there. Before we back to the ballroom, we went to the sky lounge on 19th floor. It was the
highest level on the building. We could see Bandung City up there. Then we went back to the
hotel lobby, there were two places to eat in the lobby like Pakuan Cafe and Paseban Deco.
Finally we returned to Amartapura Ballroom to start the table manners.

As everyone gathered again and before the event started, we prayed and sang Indonesia
Raya song. After that, Mr Harry started the presentation. He began with the history of table
manners. The history of table manners started from King Louis XIV in France who has a
habit to conduct a banquet and invited nobleman from, Mr Harry said that King Louis XIV
has a great influence in table manners. The next thing he explained was the “Do” and “Don’t”
in table manners.

The “Do” things are wait until everyone is seated before starting to eat, sit properly and
straight in your chair, put your napkin on your lap, chew with your mouth closed, always be
polite and thank your server and talk about pleasant things. Meanwhile the “Don’t” things are
don’t snap your fingers to get the servers attention, don't talk if you still chewing your food,
don’t lean your elbow on the table, don’t fold your legs and don’t comment on the food.

Then Mr Harry explained the proper way to eat and drink in table manners, He also
explained the proper way to use the utensils like spoon, fork and knife. We started with a
bread for a snack. We had salad for appetizer, Mr Harry said, that appetizer is to stimulate our
appetite. Before we ate a main course, we had a cream soup. Sirloin steak was our main
course, the steak was so tasty. And chocolate cake was our dessert, I impressed how they
presented the chocolate cake. After we finished with the meal, we watched a cooking
demonstration. The chef told us how to cook a spaghetti step by step.

And the event was over. Before we went back home, the last thing we did was to take a
picture together with our teacher, our guide and the chef. Table manners can be use in many
important events with important peoples so we have to remember all of this education about
table manners because it will be important for our future.
