Reading Exercise 1 – My bed

I love my bed; it is surely the most comfortable place on earth! Last night, I saw a rat run under
my bed. I got up with a start and looked beneath my bed, only to see the rat nibbling on an
apple gone bad which it may have found in the trash can. I stamped my feet hard to scare off
the rat and it darted out the window of my room where the alarm clock is kept.

Reading Exercise 2 – Jack and Zachary

It is not usual for two friends from the city to go looking for treasure, unless of course we’re
talking about Jack and Zachary. It’s always a pleasure to meet these two, sitting casually outside
their garage. The other day though Zachary took me aside and said that Jack had dreamt of gold
lying at the bottom of the ocean, waiting for them to go seize it! He also said they were working
on a plan on how to go retrieve the treasure from the ocean bed. I wished them luck and hoped
they came back to their senses soon!

Reading Exercise 4 - The Vet

Once there was a vet, who loved to drink wine. Every evening on his way home from
work, he would buy wine from the local vend and drink it all by the time he reached
home. Yesterday the vet got wet in the rain and his wine turned in to water!

Reading Exercise 6 - Teaching Dreams


I dream of becoming a teacher. It has to be the best job in the world. The trouble is that I want
to teach every subject. There are so many things to teach about and I don't think schools will let
a teacher teach about everything. However, what is wrong with trying? I will go meet Mr.
Turnbull, the principal of our high school tomorrow and ask him if can start teaching the
children from Tuesday onwards!

Reading Exercise 7 - Sherry


Sherry boarded a shipfrom San Francisco.Soon after, Sherry shampooed her hair in the shower.
After her shower, Sherry put on her shirt, her skirt, and her shoes.

The chef on the ship made sherry a shake in which she put a lot of sugar. A little later Sherry
met her friend Samantha and they both went for a session of yoga which they followed up with
a swim in the pool on the ship

Reading Exercise 9 – The Price of a Prize


The price that an athlete pays for attaining the grand prize at a sporting event cannot be
measured. He toils day in and day out, working on the skills that will ultimately be the deciding
factor in him winning, or losing. An inner voice tells him to continuously strive for perfection
leaving aside material comforts of the world; he is always under pressure to beat one or the
other record. All of this for the joyous feeling of the gold medal brushing against the athlete’s
chest and the adrenaline pumping cheers in the stadium! Truly, the price of a prize is known
only to the winning athlete.
