Telling Time with Clocks


Grade 1st

Subject Math

Length of Lesson 1 hour

Lesson
Overview/Rationale Students will learn how to tell time by making their own clocks and then
doing a worksheet that quizzes them on their skills. The students will be
working in groups of four.

 Students will be able to learn how to tell time

 Presentation on learning to tell time
 Worksheet on computer
 Computer

Materials
 Paper plate
 Pencils/Colored Pencils
 Scissors
Procedure

 Teacher will do a PowerPoint lesson on learning how to tell


time
 Students will get into groups of four
 Everyone in the group will first make their own clock out of a
paper plate and decorate it and label numbers
 One students clock will have all the numbers on it
 One student will write all the answers on the worksheet
 One student will quiz the others on the clock
 Each group will keep practicing skills to memorize the clock and
doing the worksheet that you are adding and subtracting time

Assessment
 I will check to see which groups were able to fill in the clock
without looking
 I will evaluate each groups skill by looking at their worksheets
and seeing how many they got right or wrong
