The Anyone working with music needs to appreciate the characteristics that make up the musical and
project timbral elements to music. Musicians and producers alike must be able to define the volume and
brief balance levels, ambience qualities and equipment coloration that may affect a final recording or
performance. Attention to musical detail is vital to your success within the studio or on the stage.
This project demands that you fine tune your aural perception and use it to correct and critique a
range of musical situations.
Scenario An online radio station has commissioned you to host a series of broadcasts that each give a
critical perspective of music and musical pieces. The station wants you to discuss a variety of
artists, musical pieces or live recordings, explaining the sonic and musical elements to the
listener. Because you are a musician with your own musical pieces it is expected that you can
analyse your own work. The shows, which may also include video clips, should provide
examples of the music which you are discussing.
