Dissertation Guidelines

Introduction
The dissertation is a non teaching credit course and it
mandatory for the completion of MBA & Specialized MBA
program.

It is done in the fourth semester with 7 credit Units.

The final marks are credited in the 4th semester mark


sheet.

The dissertation process starts with registration of


Synopsis, Online registration and ends with the final viva

Dissertation
A substantial, sustained and independent
exercise in research produced by an individual
student involving substantial data collection in the
field and/or the laboratory with the work presented
as a written report, which demonstrates
scholarship at an appropriate level and in an area
relevant to the chosen degree of the student.

Dissertation provides an opportunity to the students


to demonstrate the ability to devise, to show the
application of skills of data collection, critical analysis
and concept synthesis necessary for formation of
defensible conclusions.
It also provides a platform to demonstrate ability to
draw appropriate conclusions argued from the
evidence presented and also a forum to demonstrate
the skills of structuring and present a balanced
informed, complete, clear and concise written
argument.

Prerequisites for Dissertation

The basic prerequisites required to start your


dissertation work is the thorough understanding
of Business Research Methods and
proficiency in the area of specialization.

Learning Outcomes
The specific learning outcomes expected of the dissertation
are :
1. Select, evaluate and apply critical management thinking to
an organizational issue or problem

2. Critically evaluate the techniques and processes used to


investigate an important organizational issue or problem

3. Synthesize information to arrive at a coherent conclusion

4. Critically evaluate the implications for the recommendations


presented

5. Critically reflect on his or her development of knowledge,


skills and techniques during the preparation of the dissertation

Steps in the dissertation process


 Identification of research area by the students.
 Identification of the faculty guide by the student based on
their common research area/interest.
 Submission of approved research proposal/synopsis signed
by the Faculty Guides to be submitted in the examination
Department on the date mentioned in the NTCC activity
calendar.

 Online Registration and submission of NTCC Approved


synopsis on AMIZONE
 First review on completion and submission of Introduction
and literature review
 Second review on completion and submission of Data
collection and Data analysis
 Third review on completion and submission of final report
is done.
 Obtaining Plagiarism Certificate for the work done.
 Submission of hard bound report
 Conversion of Research work into a research paper is
mandatory.
 Final Assessment Viva voce.

Weekly Progress Report


Student is expected to report regularly to their
respective faculty guides and maintain their
daily diary of the dissertation work.

Students will be required to submit 12 WPRs


in the prescribed format to faculty guides.

Final Evaluation

• The final evaluation of the student will depend upon


the Dissertation & Research Paper developed &
submitted at Amity Business School.
• There Are two components of Evaluation

• Internal : 40 Marks
• External 60 Marks

Internal Components
• Timely registration 5 marks
• Timely submission of synopsis 5 marks
• Weekly progress report and Progress
reviews 10 marks
• Observation of Faculty Guide 15 marks
• Plagiarism Report <10% 5 marks

External Evaluation
• Board of at least 3 members two internal
Faculties & External University
Representative
• Evaluation of Research Paper would be
done by the panel independently.
• Total Evaluation would be of 60 marks.

External Evaluation

• At the end of Dissertation , all the marks obtained by a


student on various evaluation components described
above will be added. It will give the total marks earned by
the student out of 100 marks.
• It is to be borne in mind that the entire responsibility
of ensuring timely submissions for evaluation rests
with the students.

Student Grievance
• In case a student has some grievance during any stage of
Dissertation, he/she can write to Examination Department
in prescribed format for registering student grievance.

• All the Grievance received would be referred to a


“Grievance committee” for recommendation.

Things to remember

1) Follow the Submission Time Lines uploaded on Amizone.


2) Visit your Faculty Guides Regularly and maintain good
rapport with them.
3) Follow the Dissertation Activity Calendar.
4) In case of any issue you can submit the written
application to your PL/PC.
5) No verbal communication done by the students in context
of their Dissertation will be taken into consideration.
6) Outcome has to be in the form of research paper which
will be sent for the publication in the UGC/Scopus listed
Journals by the students.

IMPORTANT DATES
• December 18, 2017 : Registration on
Amizone
• 09th March 2018: First draft submission to the
faculty guide.
• 11-16th March 2018 : Final report submission
for plagiarism check to the respective faculty
guides.
• 21st March 2018: Submission of final hard
bound report.
• 30th March 2018 : Submission of Research
paper and Publication Acceptance.
