Lesson Plan

Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to understand and describe what is happening with atoms
and molecules in different temperature states.

Assessment:
Visual art piece and reflection.

Materials Needed: Lesson Sequence:

Computers with internet * Divide the students into small groups. 6+ groups- Assign each group a
access to "Pioneer" to find state of matter. Have them perform a Tableau on their state of matter.
music
* In a large space show students state of matter cards-have them find a
Paper and pencils/pens safe space and act out the state of matter.  Once each state of matter has
been acted out discuss the elements of dance that can be used to
represent each state. Have them move through the space and call out
different states of matter for them to move to.

* Using "Pioneer" have the students look through the music library and
find pieces that they feel best represents each state of matter. Discuss
Tempo, pitch, speed, etc.

*Now using the music that students found have the students draw
continuous line/pattern that they see through the music. Do it for each
state of matter.
*Have students put their artwork around the room under the correct
state of matter. Gas, Liquid, Solid. Now have the students do a museum
walk and analyze the the patterns, flow and similarities amongst the
pieces.  Have the students find a partner and discuss what they noticed
about the art pieces.
