1. Two friends decide to meet at the cinema. The first one lives 1.6km
from the meeting point and goes on foot at a velocity of 6.0km/h. The
second one lives 8.3km from the cinema and uses his scooter, travelling at
50km/h.
Which of the two friends is the first who arrives at the cinema? How long
the first has to wait until the second arrives?
2. A submarine using the sonar send a signal toward the seabed, to find the
depth. In the water, the sound travels at a constant velocity of 1450m/s.
The signal comes back to the reciver after 0.50s. At which distance is the
seabed from the submarine?
3. A truck passes in front a service station at the constant velocity of 100km/h.
After 3.0min a car passes in front of the same service station at 130km/h.
Write the equations of motion of both vehicles.
How long does the car take to reach the truck?
How many kilometers, with respect to the service station, have they trav-
elled, before the car reaches the truck?
4. Consider the graph proposed in fig. 1. Evaluate the velocity of this motion
and draw a graph of the velocity as a funcion of time.
5. A cat trying to catch an insect runs along a straight line at a constant
velocity. In the first 2.0s, the magnitude of the displacement of the cat is
3.0m. Then the cat comes back travelling 2.0m in 1.0s.
Draw the graph of the position of the cat as a function of time, assuming
that at the beginning of his motion the cat is in the origin of the reference
frame.
Draw the corresponding graph of the velocity as a funcion of time.
6. Two cyclists A and B travel along the same straight road, starting at the
same time. From the graph proposed in fig. 2, find: the starting point
for A and B, their velocity, the time in which they are in the same place,
the final position of both of them, the distance travelled by both of them
when they meet. Draw the graph of the velocity as a function of time for
the two motions.
7. Two messengers have to meet to deliver some letters. They both ride their
horses and leave at the same time their castels. The castels are joined by
a staight road, whose lenght is 30km. The constant speed of messanger
A is 17km/h, while messenger B travels a a constant speed of 13km/h.
Write the equation of motion of both the messangers. Evaluate at which
distance from A castel the two messengers meet. When do the messengers
meet? Evaluate the time from when they left their castels.
8. A cart moves along a straight track. At t = 0 it is at the end of the
track. Its motion is described by the graph proposed in fig. 3, showing
the velocity as a function of time. Draw the graph of the position as a
function of time for this motion.
