triangle?

How? By means of SOH-CAH-TOA.

Ok Good. But remember, the trigonometric

ratios (SOH-CAH-TOA) are applicable only
in the right triangles.

Do you think our triangles are right triangle? No sir.

Now, how can we solve the missing parts?

Yes Enciso. By the use of Law of Sines.

That is correct. By the use of Law of Sines

which is our topic for today.

Before we proceed to our lesson, kindly

read our objective for today, Lumag. Objectives:
a. Derive the formula of the Law of
C. Analysis (15-20 minutes) Sines
b. Solve a real-world problem
involving Oblique Triangles using

Look at the board, I have here an acute

triangle. Let’s follow the steps to identify
and derive the formula of Law of Sines.

Step 1: Draw an altitude of the triangle

from vertex C. Label the altitude as h.

Can someone draw an altitude on the board.

b a
Alieyah.
h
A B
c

Step 2: Using trigonometric ratios, form

an equation that will solve-
a) sin A b) sin B

Solve sin A and sin B on the board? We

now have a right triangle so trigonometric
ratio is applicable.

Camille solve it on the board. sin 𝐴 =
𝑏

sin 𝐵 =
𝑎
Step 3: Manipulate the equations
obtained in No. 2 to find expression that
will solve for h.

Who wants to work for step no. 3?

Yes, Ayessa.
ℎ = 𝑎 sin 𝐵
ℎ = 𝑏 sin 𝐴

Step 4: If we divide both sides of the

equation by the product of a and b, what
is the resulting equation?

Who can write the resulting equation?

Ok Yucot, write the equation on the board.

𝑏 sin 𝐴 𝑎 sin 𝐵
=
𝑎𝑏 𝑎𝑏
sin 𝐴 sin 𝐵
=
𝑎 𝑏
Step 5: Next, draw an altitude from
vertex A and label the altitude as h.

Now, who wants to draw an altitude from

vertex A? C
Saint Michael’s College of Laguna
Old National Road, City of Binan, Laguna

Pricones. b a
h

A B
c

Step 6: Using trigonometric ratios, form

an equation that will solve-
a) sin B b) sin C

This time, solve for sin B and sin C on the

board? We now have a right triangle so
trigonometric ratio is applicable. ℎ
sin 𝐵 =
𝑐
Ok Lumag.

sin 𝐶 =
𝑏

Step 7: Manipulate the equations

obtained in No. 6 to find expression that
will solve for h.

Who wants to manipulate the equation on

the board?
ℎ = 𝑐 sin 𝐵
On the board, Neil. ℎ = 𝑏 sin 𝐶

Step 8: If we divide both sides of the

equation by the product of b and c, what
is the resulting equation?

After manipulating the equation, what is the 𝑐 sin 𝐵 𝑏 sin 𝐶

resulting equation? Write on the board. =
𝑏𝑐 𝑏𝑐

Same as step 4. Tan. sin 𝐵 sin 𝐶

=
𝑏 𝑐

Step 9: Observe the equations obtained in

nos. 4 and 8. Based on your observation,
what can be said about
𝒔𝒊𝒏 𝑨 𝒔𝒊𝒏 𝑩 𝒔𝒊𝒏 𝑪
, 𝒃 , 𝒄 .
𝒂

Anyone, what can you say about the

equation?
Sir, they are all equal.
Very good!

Can we solve now the missing part of an Yes sir.

oblique triangle?

D. Abstraction (10 minutes)

Let’s have a problem. Can someone read the

problem on the board?

Guilmar, read the problem. The Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy leans
at an angle of about 84.7°. The figure
Saint Michael’s College of Laguna
Old National Road, City of Binan, Laguna
shows that 171 feet from the base of the
tower, the angle of elevation to the top is
50°. Find the height of the Leaning Tower
of Pisa.
Thank you Guilmar.

Now, we will illustrate the problem first so

that we can easily solve it.

84.7° 50°

171 ft

On the board, who can solve for the missing

part of the triangle?

Neil write the given and formula on the sin 𝐴 sin 𝐵

=
board. 𝑎 𝑏

Next, Yucot substitute the values. sin 50° sin 45.3°

=
𝑏 171

What we will do now? Cross multiplication sir.

Very good!

Katrina solve it on the board. 𝑏 sin 45.3° = 171 sin 50°

𝑏 sin 45.3° 171 sin 50°

=
sin 45.3° sin 45.3°

Correct!

By using your calculator, who can write the

values of sin 50°and sin 45.3°?

Irish write in on the board. 171(0.77)

𝑏=
0.71
Very Good!

Lastly, solve and write our final answer on

the board, Nicole. 𝑏 ≈ 185.45 𝑓𝑡

Very Good!

IV Application (10 minutes)

(The teacher will give a group activity

wherein the students will discuss their work
on the front after the given time limit)

Let’s have a group activity. You will be

Saint Michael’s College of Laguna
Old National Road, City of Binan, Laguna
given one problem. You will put your
illustration in the cartolina as well as your
solution. When you are done, post your
work on the board. After that, you will
choose two representatives to discuss your
illustration and the solution. You only have
5 minutes to finish your work.

Is it clear? Yes sir.

You will be graded based on the rubric.

(The teacher will post the rubric on the

board)

Is there any question? None sir.

Shall we start? Yes sir.

One representative each group and get your

materials here.

You may start.

(After 5 minutes)

Time is up. Post your work on the board.

Group 1 choose two representatives to (Two representatives from group 1 will

discuss you work? discuss their work)

Very good group 1!

Next group, Group 2. (Two representatives from group 2 will

discuss their work)

Nice work Group 2.

Last but not the least, Group 3. (Two representatives from group 3 will
discuss their work)

All of you got the correct illustration and

solution. Give yourself a round of applause.

When doing your group activity, how did Sir, the activity is fun. We are given the
you find it? opportunity to illustrate the real-world
problem by ourselves.

Did you encounter difficulties while

working your group activity? None sir.

Do you have any question about the topic None sir.
