1. Paper-Based TOEFL (PBT)
Paper-Based TOEFL is pencil and paper that is offered for two purposes.
That are, first for placement and progress evaluation, is called an institution
TOEFL. This TOEFL test usually use for collages and institution student. This
result or score is not valid outside of the place where they are administered, but
the collage and institution accepts accept the PBT that they administer as an
official score. The second purpose is for supplement the official Computer-
Based TOEFL (CBT TOEFL) in areas where computer-based testing are not
possible. The score are usually valid outside of the place where they are
administered. This PBT is also called a Supplemental TEOFL. Total score for is
based 310-677 [ CITATION Sha03 \l 1033 ].
PBT TOEFL has three part, that are Listening Comprehension, Structure
and Written Expression, and Reading.
a. Listening Comprehension
Listening Comprehension measures the ability to understand English
as it is spoken in North America. The oral features of the language
are stressed, and the problems tested include vocabulary and
idiomatic expression as well as special grammatical constructions
frequently used in spoken English [ CITATION Edu07 \l 1033 ].
Listening comprehension sessions consist of three parts. The first part
includes 30 questions that are delivered in the form of short
conversations. The second section has 8 questions presented in the
forms of a longer conversation than the first part. And the last or third
parts, contains 12 questions presented in the form of lectures or
discourse

b. Structure and written expression


Structure and written expression session measures recognition of
selected structural and grammatical points in standard written
English. The language tested is formal, rather than conversational.
The topics of the sentences are of a general academic nature so that
individuals in specific fields of study or from specific national or
linguistic groups have no particular advantage [ CITATION Edu07 \l
1033 ]. Structure and written expression sessions have 15 exercises
that require test participants to complete sentences correctly and 25
exercises identifying the wrong or incorrect parts.
c. Reading Comprehension
Reading Comprehension, measures the ability to read and understand
short passages that are similar in topic and style to those that students
are likely to encounter. Examinees read a variety of short passages on
academic subjects and answer several questions about each passage.
The questions test information that is stated in or implied by the
passage, as well as knowledge of some of the specific words as they
are used in the passage[ CITATION Edu07 \l 1033 ]. Reading
comprehension sessions consist of 60 questions relating to several
readings.
d. Test of Written English (TWE)
In addition the TWE is an essay that is required to provide a writing
score.
2. Computer-Based TOEFL (CBT)
Computer-Based TOEFL or CBT is computer-adaptive test that is offered
as an official standard for language proficiency worldwide. The CBT is also
called the Official TOEFL. This TOEFL has four parts, that is Listening,
Structure, Reading, and Writing. The Writing Section is equivalent to the TWE
on the PBT TOEFL. This TOEFL is adaptive test, which means that everyone
who takes the TOEFL during the same administration may not see and answer
the same question. The computer selects question for participant at their level of
proficiency. The total score is based on a scale of 0-300 [ CITATION Sha03 \l
1033 ].
3. Internet-Based TOEFL (IBT)
The IBT test measures an ability to use and understand English at the
university level. IBT has four sections, which is reading, listening, writing, and
speaking. The structure section is not loss, but it merge in four sections. This
TOEFL evaluates how well participant combine their reading, listening,
speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks. The test not only
independent test (individual test) but also integrated test (combine test).
Combination test mean in one question there is more than one material. For the
example is in a paragraph (reading) followed by an explanation of person about
that paragraph (listening). Duration of this test is 4 hours.
