4. Input
Task Analysis
1. Following the anticipatory set the students will be told they will be listening to a story about
a Duck that does become president.
2. Before starting the teacher will ask students if they think the story is fiction or nonfiction
and how they were able to tell.
3. Before beginning the story the teacher will review with the students the new behavior
management strategy of using a light during a read aloud. The teacher will remind students
that when the light is on the only voice we should hear is the teachers. If they have a
question or something to share they can raise their hand. Remind them the teacher may
not stop right away, but will and when they light is off the teacher will call on students with
their hands up.
4. The teacher will then read through the story.
5. Following the story the teacher will tell students they will be working on putting events from
the story in order.
6. The teacher will dismiss students to get the sheet of events, sequencing sheet, pencil box,
and clipboard.
7. The teacher will ask the students to cut out each of the events and remind them to keep
their events in front of them so they don’t lose them.
8. Teacher will read the events and first the students will divide them into beginning, middle,
and end categories.
9. The class will then put the events in order and then glue them in the correct sequence.
10. Following the sequence, students will be given the opportunity to “vote” for either Farmer
Brown or Duck.
11. The teacher and the students will then be graphing the results of the vote to determine the
winner.
12. The teacher will show the students the ballot and the class will color one square in the
respective candidates row.
13. Once all ballots have been graphed, the class will count Farmer Brown’s total and the
Duck’s total and determine the class winner.
