University of Central Punjab

The University of Central Punjab or UCP is a private sector university located

in Lahore, Pakistan. The current enrollment of the university is 8,000. University of Central
Punjab, a part of the Punjab Group of Colleges, was Chartered by the Government of Punjab in
2002.[1] According to the HEC ranking 2013, UCP's business school is the third best in Lahore.
University of Central Punjab offers undergraduate, graduate as well as postgraduate programs in
the fields of Engineering, Computer Science, Pharmacy, Business, Commerce, Arts, Social
Sciences, and Life Sciences. There are six distinct faculties in the university, namely the Faculty
of Engineering, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Pharmacy, UCP Business School, and the
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.[2]

History
On 15 August 1996, The Punjab Group of Colleges petitioned the Government of Punjab for the
establishment of a university in the province. In response to this petition, the government issued a
No Objection Certificated on October 11, 1999. The University started operating the same year it
got a No Objection Certificate from the government and initially offered courses in Management
Studies, Information Technology, and Commerce and Law. The Punjab College of Business
Administration (PCBA), Punjab Institute of Computer Science (PICS), Punjab College of
Commerce (PCC), Punjab Law College (PLC), and Punjab College of Information Technology
(PCIT) formed the core of the university at the time of establishment.
Following a restructuring in 2004, the PCBA and PICS operate under the Faculty of Management
Studies and Faculty of Information Technology of the University of Central Punjab respectively.
The Punjab Colleges of Commerce and the Punjab Law College respectively function under the
Faculties of Commerce and of Law of the University of Central Punjab. The Faculty of
Engineering (FOE) has was introduced in 2002.

Management information system or MIS broadly refers to a computer based system that provides managers
with the tools to organize evaluate and efficiently manage department with In an organization.

MIS in UCP:
UCP uses the software (CMS) campus management system. It is powered by tower
technologies(Pvt). (MIS) network spread in all campuses of UCP in all over the Pakistan. main
server of this system is in Lahore. current manager of MIS in UCP is Kamran Ali. It makes
management more efficient and easy, it saves times and labor cost. It can efficiently access students
to their source of needed information.
Tower technologies (Pvt.) has commanded it in that manner. It can automatically calculate final
result of semester UCP use 9.0 oracles.

Effect of MIS in UCP

Before using MIS, management of UCP was slow because if teacher want to know about the
timetable he had to go to management of UCP for every information student and teacher had to
contact with the management but after using MIS they hadn’t to contact with management they
have to do only a thing is they have to go on the website of of UCP and get the information they
want.

Importance of MIS in UCP

MIS is important because it is less time consuming it saves time of teacher, management and
students. MIS saves the labor cost. Teacher student and management can easily get information
they want to get. It is important for management before using MIS if management had to provide
any information first they have to collect all staff it takes time, but after using MIS if they have to
make any announcement they upload on their portal.
