Introduction to the Course

With globalization rapidly engulfing all the nations and with the financial
markets expanding at a fast clip ably aided by economic liberalization and
technological advancements, the financial services sector is compelled to
keep pace with the ever increasing demands of its customers both individual
and institutional. Innovations and user-oriented schemes have become the
order of the day.

A thorough awareness of the unfolding scenario and a complete knowledge


of the financial services being offered will stand a student of finance in good
stead and prove to be of immense value in his ensuing career in the
corporate world.

Course Objectives 

This course is designed with the intention and purpose of moulding the
students into well-informed professionals in the arena of Financial Services
so that at the end of the course, the students will be able

a. To understand the broad structure of the Indian Financial System with an


overview of the role of RBI , the banking sector and the NBFC’s
b. To possess a workable knowledge of the various financial services –
fund-based as well as advisory services
c. To acquire a comprehensive grasp of the entire gamut of Merchant
Banking Services

To become adept in the subject comprehending the intricacies & nuances


involved and be adequately equipped to deal with the complexities, Students
should stay focused and pay rapt attention to lectures and exhibit
wholehearted involvement in classroom discussions, assignments, case
studies and class presentations.
Please do realize that without the pre-session and complementary readings
suggested/recommended, wholesome understanding of the subject, let
alone mastering it, would prove to be very difficult indeed.

e. Factoring and Forfaiting
f. Venture Capital Financing

- Regulatory Framework and Role of SEBI


- Issue Management
- Marketing of New Issues
- Preparation of Prospectus
- Underwriting
- Post-issue Management

CREDIT RATING

Pedagogy

It is an experiential learning based approach with an appropriate mixture of lecture


sessions, case studies, class presentations and role play. The students are expected
to do all the background readings recommended so that they can effectively and
meaningfully participate in classroom discussions.

The entire course would be covered in 20 sessions of 90 minutes each.
