1. Preliminary Information

General information
The product specification and/or performance levels contained in this document are for

6 Installing the Rack

6.1 Rack Unpacking


Procedure: Unpack the rack
Check the delivery
Verify the type of rack and serial number of the rack
Report any damage to the equipment on the carrier delivery note.

6.2 Reversing the Rack Door (If Necessary On Site)

Procedure: Remove the door (1) with its hinges (2) (See Figure 6)
Remove the two bars (4), (6) and the part (3)
Reverse the latch (5) and fix the two bars (4), (6) in the right place
Fix the door to the left side of the rack
Connect the earth link to the door and to the top left of the rack
Remove the reversed labelling (no Alcatel-Lucent labels) (See Figure 6)
Remove the orange line label.

6.3 Positioning the Rack

Procedure: Mark out the rack’s position on the floor


Position the rack
Adjust the height of the feet with a 20 mm open-ended wrench
Level the rack.

Procedure: Fix the brackets to the fet of the rack


Position the plugs in the holes in the concrete floor
Insert the crews with washers in the plugs
Position the rack and tighten the screws into the ground

6.5 OPTION : Fixing to the Raised Floor

6.5.1 Drilling the Raised Floor

Procedure: Mark the tile with the template (See Figure 8)


Drill the tile ∅ 10 mm
Mark the floor with the template
Drill the tile ∅ 8 mm.

6.5.2 Fixing to the Raised Floor

Procedure: Insert the expanding plug 9 in the concrete floor (See Figure 12)
Screw in threaded rod 6 with washer 8 and nut 7
Screw coupling nut 5 as the figure shows
Screw in screw 1 with washer 2
Position bracket 3.

6.6 OPTION : Fixing to the Wall

Procedure: Fix the two front


feet of the equipment
with brackets as described
for concrete floor.
Fix the BTS to the wall
by the two holes (1) at the
top of the rack.

6.7 Preparing the Site Cable Tray and the Metal Sheath

Procedure: Make a cut-out in the cable way for the cables with metal sheath (See Figure 14)
Make a cut-out in the cable way for the antenna jumpers
Edge the cut-outs with edge protection
Fix provisory the metal sheath to the cable way (See Figure 15).

7.2 Installing the Cables in the Cable Tray

Install yellow/ green cable


Install power cable
Attach cable
Cut the cable at good length
Crimp a wire terminal:Terminals on the rack side:
GND : ∅ 8 mm
BAT A : ∅ 6 mm
BAT B : ∅ 6 mm
BATRET : 6 mm
Terminals on the power box :
∅ depending on site

7.3 Protective Earth Cable Connection

Crimp an adapted wire terminal at site extremity


Connect the protective earth cable to the site earth plate
Pass the cables to the metal sheath
Connect earth cable at rack’s top
Crimp a ∅ 8 mm wire terminal at BTS extremity of earth cable
Connect the GND cable to the stud top rack on the rack (M8)

Pass the GND cable through the metal sheath
Crimp an M8 wire terminal on the GND cable
Fit a rubber sleeve on the wire terminal
Connect the GND cable to the stud of the BTS (See Step 2)
At the site side, cut the cable and crimp a wire terminal on the GND cable (diameter depending
on site) (See Step 3)
Fit a rubber sleeve on the wire terminal
Connect the GND cable to the site earth plate (See Step 6).

7.4 Rack Side Power Cable Connections

Procedure: Pass the 48 V power cables through the metal sheath
Remove the rubber caps from the power supply terminals on the rack
Pass the cables into the rubber caps (See Steps 1 to 4)
Crimp M6 terminals on the cables
Fit a rubber sleeve on the wire terminal
Connect the 48 V cables to the studs of the BTS:
Black insulated conductor to the 0 V terminal
Blue insulated conductor to the - 48 V terminal
Fit the rubber caps on the power terminals.

7.5 Site Side Power Cable Connections (48 V)

Procedure: On the site side, cut the 48 V cables and crimp on a lug (diameter depending on site)
Fit a rubber sleeve on the terminal lug
Connect the 48 V cable to the site breakers
Label the 48 V cables and the site power box.

7.6 Power Supply Testing

Procedure: Check that all the rack breakers are switched off
At the rack, test for short circuit between 0 V and - 48 V
At power box, switch on the fuse breakers (See Figure 20)
At the rack, test the voltage polarity (See Figure 20)
At the power box, switch off the fuse breakers

8.1 Installing Cable in Cable Tray

Install cables in PCM compartment of cable tray


Attach cables with plastic cable ties
Label the cables with labels supplied
Pass the PCM cables through the metal sheath.

Procedure: Section 1.8 for


the number of PCM cables
to install
Perform steps 1 to 4.

8.2 Rack Side Connection

8.2.1 Prepare the PCM Cables

Procedure: Remove 2 cm of outer insulation near the metal sheath fixing point on each PCM cable (See
Figure 21)
Prepare the cable termination
Fit a rubber sleeve (4) (See Figure 22)
Label the cables (See Figure 22).

8.2.2 Connect the Cables to the Rack

8.2.3 L907/ 4 120 - Ohm Cable (Alcatel-Lucent Kits)

Only one cable is used to carry Abis1 and Abis2 signals.


High level signals must be in the same quad.

Procedure: Remove the lightning protection block (2 in Figure 22)
Insert the wires in the terminal block (1 in Figure 22)(to avoid cutting problems os short
circuits, take the wire with the first hand and insert it with the other hand)
Fit the lightning protection block
Tie the cables to the rack (with adhesive tie blocks).

8.2.4 FLEX3 / 4 - 75 Ohm Coaxial Cable (Alcatel-Lucent Kits)

Procedure: Remove the lightning protection block (2 in Figure 22)


Insert the wires in the terminal block (1 in Figure 22)
Fit the lightning protection block
Tie the cables to the rack (with adhesive tie blocks).
Fit SP2M 75 - ohm adapters to sub - D connectors (positions 4 and 5 in Figure 22)

9.2 Connection to the Feeder Termination

If the feeders are not labeled:


Inform the customer
Do not connect the jumpers
Complete the CCL

Procedure: Refer to Information Required (Section 1.8)1 for cable connections


Label the antenna jumpers at each end (See Figure 27)
Connect the antenna jumpers to the feeders (See Figure 28).

9.3 Connection to the BTS Rack

Procedure: Lead the jumpers through the cut-outs in the cable tray
Ensure that hte bending radius of each cable is at least 3 cm
Use the plastic ties to bundle the cables together
Tighten with special tightening tool (See Tools catalogue).

10 Installing the Alarm Cables (Options)

10.1 Installing the Cables (Option)

1). Install the alarm cables in special compartment of cable tray (See Information Required
(Section 1.8) for the number of alarms to be installed)
2). Attach cables with plastic cable ties
3). Label the cables
4). Pass the alarm cables through the metal sheath
5). Fit a rubber sleeve on wire terminations.

Procedure: Refer to Information Required (Section 1.8) in chapter 1 for the cable connections
and the quantity of alarms to be connected.
From the end of the sheathing, bundle the cables together and attach them with
cable ties.
Fit a rubber sleeve on wire terminations
Insert the wires into the connectors:
Connector (1) = input alarms 1 to 8 (See Figures 32 and 33)
Connector (2) = input alarms 9 to 16
Connector (3) = input alarms 17 to 24
Connector (4) = output alarms (not used)
Tie the cables to the rack

11.2 Installation

Procedure: Choose the right configuration (See Figures 34 to 37)


Run the synchronization cables in the site cable tray
Pass the cables through the metal sheath
Label the cables with labels supplied
Connect cables to sockets 1, 2, 3 in the connection area (See Figure 38)
Fasten the connectors with knurled screws
Connect the cables to the site BTSs (*1).
(*1) With G2 - BTS use Part 17 volume 17 CDD document

Procedure: Stretch the metallic sheath between the vertical cutout in the cable tray
and the BTS rack (See Figure 39).
Fix the metallic sheath to the cable tray with one stove screw (See Figure 39).
Cut the metallic sheath to the right length (*1).
Fix a lug to the metallic sheath if necessary.
Connect the metallic sheath tot he rack (See Figure 40).
Tighten the stripped PCM cable shielding to the sheath using the metallic tie.

Procedure: Affix the “ BTS STATION “ and “ N “ labels to the door of the BTS
Clear away packaging
Leave the site tidy
Leave the BTS door key
Clean the site.
