produced by his operations on site required under or by virtue of any enactment or regulations, or by
the working rules of any industry, are strictly complied with.
The Subcontractor shall indemnify the Contractor against any claim or proceeding in respect of noise
made on the Works. Allow for all costs arising from the stoppage or reprogramming of the Works
because of noise.
Specifically the Subcontractor may arrange in respect of all work done under this contract:-
That all compressors used on the site are silenced either by using only fully silenced models,
fitted with effective exhaust silencers and properly lined and sealed acoustic covers, all to the
designs of the manufacturers of the compressors.
That ancillary pneumatic percussive tools and other machinery used on the site are fitted with
silencers of a type recommended by the manufacturers thereof.
That every such compressor, silencer or other contrivance is maintained in good and efficient
working order and shall not have been altered in such a way that the noise caused in
operation is made greater by the alteration.
If any action is taken to restrain the Subcontractor from causing a nuisance by making noise, he is to
be responsible for taking immediate steps to reduce such noise to the absolute minimum.
4.2.8 Vibration
The type of pile and method of installation is to be such that any vibration, shock, etc, caused does not
damage any surrounding structures, services, etc, or cause any legally actionable disturbance.
All methods of working, costs, etc, necessary to avoid any nuisance, damage, etc, from noise, dust
vibration, etc, are deemed to have been included in the tender.
In the manufacture of pre-cast reinforced concrete piles, pre-stressed concrete piles and jointed pre-
cast reinforced concrete segmental piles, all materials and components shall comply with BS EN
12794. This applies to manufacture of piles in a factory and on site, either indoors or outdoors.
All Material or products which are incorporated into completed structural components shall comply with
the requirements of the component specification. Only products with a CE mark shall be used if a
harmonised standard exists for that constituent product type.
All structural components shall, for this project, be CE marked in accordance with Execution Class
EXC2. All documentation, protocol and checking shall be administered by the Main Contractor and
records kept for the designated number of years.
Marking of piles shall comply with BS EN 12794 and cl. 5.1.4 of this Specification.
Piles shall be ordered by the Contractor to meet programme requirements. All piles and production
facilities shall be made available for inspection at any time. Piles shall be examined by the Contractor
and Piling Contractor at the time of delivery and any faulty units rejected and replaced.
5.2 Workmanship
The methods and sequence of lifting, handling, transportation and storing piles shall be such
as to avoid shock loading and to ensure that piles are not damaged. Only designed lifting
and support points shall be used. During transport and storage, piles shall be supported to
avoid damage.
Method Statement For Piling
Rev: A Ashtead, The Street
Ref: 150104
A pile shall be rejected when the width of any transverse crack exceeds 0.3mm. The measurement
shall be made with the pile in its working position.
Pile installation and procedures shall be in accordance with BS EN 12699 and the requirements of the
Specification and the Contract Documents.
Concrete to piles shall be of grade C35/45 with Sulphate Resisting Cement in accordance with this
method statement, the Specification for Concrete and the Design.
The pile installation system shall be capable of adjustment to provide an axial, non-eccentric
application of the installation force.
If it is necessary to repair the head of a pile before it has been driven to its final level, the Contractor
shall carry out such repair in a way which allows the pile-driving to be completed without further
damage. If the driving of a pile has been completed but the level of sound concrete of the pile is below
the required cut-off level, the pile shall be made good to the cut-off level, or the pile cap or
substructure may be locally deepened, so that the completed foundation will safely withstand the
specified working load.
Any provision for lengthening piles incorporated at the time of manufacture shall be designed by the
Contractor to resist all stresses to which it may be subjected.
If no provision for lengthening piles was incorporated at the time of manufacture, any method for
lengthening shall be such that the extended pile including any joints is capable of resisting all stresses
to which it may be subjected.
Where piles are driven to depths exceeding those expected, leaving insufficient projection for
penetration into the following works, the piles shall be extended or replaced so that the completed
piles are capable of meeting the requirements of the Specification.
Repaired or lengthened piles shall not be driven until cubes for the added concrete have reached the
specified characteristic strength of the concrete of the pile (refer to the Specification for Concrete).
When the pile installation has satisfied the Specification requirements, the concrete of the head of the
pile shall be cut off to the level specified. Reinforcing bars projecting above this level shall be as
specified. Care shall be taken to avoid shattering or otherwise damaging the rest of the pile. Any
5.2.9 Testing
The following tests and rates shall be carried out spread equally across the site;
Dynamic load testing of piles shall be carried out in accordance with ASTM D4945 Standard Test
Method for High-Strain Dynamic Testing of Piles or other approved non-UK national standards.
Static load testing of piles shall be carried out in accordance with BS EN 22477 Pile Load Test by
Static Axially Loaded Compression.
5.2.10 Records

All information regarding obstructions, delays & other interruptions to the sequence of work, &
unexpected changes in driving characteristics where appropriate
Prior to commencement of the piling works the Main Contractor shall set out the main grid lines,
provide an agreed datum level, and afford facilities for the Piling Subcontractor to set out individual
pile positions from such grid lines and datums. It shall be the responsibility of the Piling Subcontractor
to set out the position of each pile from the grid lines set out by the Main Contractor.
All piles are to be accurately positioned in accordance with the Engineers' setting out drawings, and
Architect’s site co-ordinates, and within the standard allowable tolerances, location and plumb.
The Main Contractor shall check and agree in writing, as piling proceeds the accuracy of the setting
out of all piles, in relation to the main grid lines.
The Main Contractor shall inform the Engineer of any piles that have been constructed outside the
allowable tolerances, and no subsequent work shall be carried out until further instructions have been
received from the Engineer.
5.2.12 Obstructions
In the event of unnatural obstructions, such as old foundations, walls, basements, etc, below ground
level being encountered during piling operations which render further progress on that pile impractical
by the method employed, the Subcontractor shall immediately inform the Engineer and Main
Contractor.
