Calculation of IRR
IRR is the internal rate of return of a cash flow stream associated with an investment.
The IRR formula [=IRR(values, guess)] consists of two fields. Values is an array or a reference to
cells that contain numbers for which you want to calculate the internal rate of return. Guess is a
number that you guess is close to the result of IRR.
IRR is the internal rate of return for a series of cash flows represented by the numbers in values.
These cash flows do not have to be even, as they would be for an annuity. However, the cash flows
must occur at regular intervals, such as monthly or annually. IRR is the interest rate received for an
investment consisting of payments (negative values) and income (positive values) that occur at
regular periods. The "Values" field must contain at least one positive value and one negative value in
order to calculate IRR. If there is no cash flow for an individual period within the investment duration,
it must be represented as zero. IRR will return a periodic interest rate which may need to be
annualized in order to compare to the cost of capital in making investment decisions.

Design of large ship – India is Required to import designs at initial stages while
inexperienced in designing of large ships. simultaneously designers getting trained.
Low price of ships – Minimal profit / loss. Price of ships are increasing and hence profit is improving.
Threat of existing, new entrants / Existing private shipyards have mostly gone bankrupt –
shipyards. ABG Shipyard, Bharati Shipyard, Pipavav Shipyard. L&T
has gotten orders in 2017, however reportedly the work
practice is poor and traditional. Government shipyards
are no competent to get and deliver large commercial
ships.
Poor Economy of West Bengal and Orissa West Bengal and Orissa are economically backward
province and hence huge pool of cheap labour is available
at minimal price.
Poor industrialization of Orissa and West Economy, industrialization and infrastructure are on a

and hence expenses are sky high.
Poor International Market Condition and Price of ships are at rock bottom at present and hence,
Low Price of Ships the profit margin is at rock bottom. However, the price is
increasing rapidly. More than 60% shipyards worldwide
have closed down.

Procuring Ship Orders India has good and improving market with existing and
potential ship-owners for small size ships and boats.
In case large ship orders are scant. We have already accounted for 03 ships per dry dock in
a year while our dry dock is capable of constructing 06
ships per dry dock in a year. Also, Instead of 06 VLCC size
ship, we can have 09 handysize ships per dry dock in a
year.
