Bullet Proof material for Jackets/vests for everyday use

(In various attractive designs, Able to be worn daily by police, shore patrols,
people in life threatening situations (politicians, business leaders, money couriers,
civil police force, body guards etc.)

Ballistic Fabric using pure Kevlar drawbacks:

1. UV degradation
2. Non-suitability under wet conditions to the vest of wearer

Blended fabric of wool and Kevlar advantages:

1. Better tear strength even under wet conditions,

2. Better energy absorbing capacity and reduced number of
layers of fabric in a vest,
3. Better breathability and feels good on skin.

Objectrives:

1. To overcome the shortcomings of the synthetic fiber,

2. To increase the protection efficiency of the fiber against penetrating
bullet,
3. To increase the compatibility to the user.

Ballistic Fabrics (Polyaramid Fibres):

1. Commercially used synthetic fibres include Kevlar, Ballistic nylon,

Twaron, Spectra and Zylon,
2. Having varying degree of protection against projectiles because of
low friction and extensibility,
3. Penetrating projectiles can displace these yarns laterally and causes
their failure.

Impact of Bullet on ballistic fabric:

1. The synthetic yarns are displaced by the bullet,

2. Hence, these are not recommended for use under wet conditions,
3. To overcome the drawbacks of pure synthetic fibres -a combination
of Kevlar with natural fibers is used.

Ballistic Fabrics (Kevlar-Natural Fibers, wool is used in addition to

but not as a substitute for Kevlar):

1. Helps in retaining the energy absorbing properties of the synthetic

fibre,
2. Increases the density of the fabric,
3. Restricts the displacement of Kevlar yarns under the impact of a
bullet,
4. Increases the frictional interaction at yarn intersections and
penetrating bullet comes across a stronger resisting force,
5. Presence of wool makes much harder fabric for a projectile to break
the yarns,
6. Enhances the wearability and comfort of a vest,
7. Reduce the number of layers of fabric,
8. Overall weight of the vest is reduced.
