Use SAP Solution Manager 7.2 innovation today
without upgrade
Start using SAP Solution Manager innovation today on 7.1

IT Project & Portfolio Management

IT PPM replaces SAP Solution Manager 7.1 project management capabilities in SAP Solution Manager 7.2. The functional
differences between IT PPM on SAP Solution Manager 7.1 and on SAP Solution Manager 7.2 are non-disruptive and therefore
manageable. Using IT PPM already on 7.1 simplifies the transition to 7.2. For more information on integration IT PPM and SAP
Solution Manager 7.1, see the documentation.

Automated Blueprint Generation

In SAP Solution Manager 7.2, the libraries are structured according to the application component hierarchy. The blueprint
generation report available in SAP Solution Manager 7.1 builds up a similarly structured process step library according to
customer system usage.
§  For customers who do not currently have any solution documentation, this can be the foundation for building up solution
documentation structured according to the application component hierarchy.
§  Customers with an existing solution documentation can use this report in SAP Solution Manager 7.1 to evaluate the
structure and prepare conceptually for the new Process Management environment in 7.2. Please note that the project
generated for evaluation should not be used for content activation.
You can download the report from SAP note 2061626, for more information, see this document.

Use Maintenance Planner today

Maintenance Planner
Maintenance Planner replaces Maintenance Optimizer in SAP Solution
Manager 7.2, and is already available for SAP Solution Manager 7.1. Using the
Maintenance Planner already in 7.1 simplifies the transition to 7.2. For more
information, see this blog and this document.

SAP S/4HANA can only be maintained and updated using the Maintenance
Planner.

Ensure a smooth transition CIM model and CR content

Keep your CIM model and CR content up to date

SAP provides product information and landscape data via updates of the CIM model (Common Information Model) and CR
content (Component Repository content).

In preparation of the content activation, SAP recommends to update CIM model and CR content before the actual upgrade to
SAP Solution Manager 7.2. Otherwise, updating the CIM model and CR content has to be performed during the mandatory post-
upgrade activities and can be quite time-consuming.

You can find more information in SAP note 1701770 (LMDB CIM model and CR Content prerequisite) and in SAP note 669669
(Update of SAP System Component Repository in SLD).

Tool: Cross-project / solutions overview report

How can I define the perfect scope for the content activation?

The cross-project / solutions report provides a comprehensive overview to evaluate existing

projects.

The report shows a list of projects and solutions with additional information:
•  Is process documentation included?
•  Are links to other applications included (ChaRM – open task lists; ITPPM Project, QGM, BP Monitoring)?
•  Number of assigned roadmaps (for projects)
•  Number of structure elements
•  Number of assignments on the tabs
•  Last change date of a structure element
•  Last change date of a document

Project / solutions overview report: sample report result

The report provides various

information on all projects and
solutions of your SAP Solution
Manager 7.1 system.

The main purpose is to support

the decision process if a project /
solution has to be included in the
scope for content activation or not.

New concept: Logical Component Groups

Logical Component Group

•  describes a group of systems which belong together
•  consists of logical components which describe the individual tracks of a system landscape
Example:
Logical Component Group (i.e. ERP) The example shows a dual-track landscape with a
maintenance track and a development track.

Logical Component
The maintenance track supports the productive system,
MAINT QAS PRD while the development track is used for preparing a new
(i.e. Maintenance)
release.

Logical Component
DEV TST (i.e. Development)
In a single-track landscape, the logical component group
would comprise only one logical component.

Advantages of Logical Component Groups (compared to SAP Solution Manager 7.1)

•  Synchronization of solution documentation and change request management
•  Easier handling due to the removal of the product assignment
