Iur-g Based GU Interoperation (MBSC) Feature Package
Description 2 Overview

2 Overview

In the GSM and UMTS co-coverage networking scenario, the Iur-g interface between the
RNC and BSC under the same multimode base station controller (MBSC) is used to exchange
the load information and system information between the RNC and BSC, facilitating the
selection of appropriate target cells for UEs during GU interoperations and improving GU
interoperation performance.

Simplifying the System Information Interaction

Through the Iur-g interface, the BSC can directly exchange system information with the RNC.
With the Iur-g interface, the NACC information interaction process does not rely on the
support of the CN. Therefore, its process is shortened by about 680 ms.

Improving the GU Interoperation Performance

The Iur-g interface enables the load information exchange between the BSC and RNC and
provides the following benefits:
l During the load balancing between GSM and UMTS networks, the load of the two
networks increases evenly, reducing network congestion caused by unbalanced network
load and improving network utilization.
l The accuracy of non-coverage-based GU interoperations is improved, minimizing the
probability of pingpong handovers caused by GU interoperations.
l Services are properly distributed between GSM and UMTS co-coverage networks,
improving user experience.
