 Safe distance between different games
 Be aware of personal space
 NO BODY CONTACT
 Appropriate Clothes
 No large jewellery (watches)
 Appropriate shoes

Outcomes:
1. Participants will learn and establish spatial awareness and effective teamwork. They will
also learn components of striking and fielding games. They will continue to progress
their kicking, throwing, and catching skills.
2. Participants will discover what it means to work as a team and how to become a good
teammate.
3. Participants will develop kicking, throwing, and catching skills in a game setting.

Introduction (2 minutes - Nakia):

 Ask if they remember our names? Introduce again
 NEW STOP signal! - hands on top that means stop!
o When I put my hands on my head and say “hands on top” you have to stop what
you are doing, put your hands on your head, and say “that means stop”
o Let’s practice
 What we are going to do - Striking/ Fielding
 What is a Striking/fielding game? 3 components
 Players score points by striking an object and running to designated playing areas
 Prevent opponents from scoring by retrieving the object and returning it to stop
the play.
 Striking/fielding games are set in a confined space and typically have a designated
offense and defense
 So can you guys think of any games that would be examples of striking and fielding?
Softball, baseball, cricket, kickball.

Warm Up (15 minutes - Jenn and Angela):

 The Number Game (Angela):
o Students spread out in the playing area.
o Give maybe 20-30 seconds for them to just run around and around (or skip, hop,
gallop, spin, etc).
o When the time is right, the teacher yells out a number (example, “SIX!”) and then
the students must quickly form groups of 6 (or whatever number is called).
o Any players who didn’t make a group must complete 6 jumping jacks, squats,
push ups, tuck jumps, highfives, sit ups, footfive, burpees, or exercise of choice.
 Log Relay (Jenn):
o Two teams
o Each team lies down on the ground in a line with space in between
o The person at the end of each line gets up and jumps over each of their teammates
to the front of the line
o When one team reaches a certain line (designated by us) then that team wins

Reminder of cues (2 minutes - Nakia):

 Kicking
o Plant non-kicking foot
o Eye on the ball
o Follow through with leg
 Catching
o Make a target
o Eye on the ball
o Absorb the ball
 Throwing
o Aim with non-throwing arm
o Step with opposite leg
o Follow through

Activity Race to the Base (20 minutes - Hillary)

Activity Set-up:
 Divide participants into 2 teams (number the players on each team from 1-3)
 One kickball or soccer ball
 2 colours of bibs

Activity Instructions:
 One team lines up on the baseline (near the stage) and the other team are the fielders
 The pitcher (one of the leaders) rolls a ball to any of the players on the baseline and they
must kick the ball.
 The participants marked as number 1 run to the opposite side of the gym. They are safe
once they pass the other baseline. If they make it back to home, they get a run.
 The pitcher rolls the ball to the remainder players and the number 2’s must run, then the
number 3’s, etc. until 3 outs.
 There are 2 ways to get an out:
o A fielder catches the ball in the air
o A runner is tagged out with by a player with the ball
 If more than one player gets tagged in a run, both players are out but it
only counts as one out
 Teams switch sides after each 3 outs.
 To score a homerun, a player needs to kick the ball and hit the back wall (over a certain
line) without the ball hitting something else first.

Discussion Points:
 How do you decide where to send the ball to score the maximum points
 Describe where and how your body can be positioned to be successful at fielding the ball.

Adaptations:
 To maximize the challenge and the fun, participants could identify their own ways to
increase or decrease the challenge.
 To decrease the challenge, participants could:
o The ball has to be placed in a certain area instead of tagging
o Change to a larger ball to make kicking easier
 To increase the challenge, participants could:
o Pass the ball to a certain number of fielding players before tagging a player
o Change the ball to a smaller object
