Poster Theme:

It Takes a CHILD to Raise a VILLAGE's


Awareness
About Anger Management and Conflict Resolution

The Conflict Resolution Poster Contest is for Coleman A. Young Elementary (CAY)
2nd. 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students only:

• Students have been learning how to solve conflicts peacefully,


make good choices, deal with anger in positive ways, and lots of
other skills for success, and a more peaceful school. An
important part of the TACTful Solutions program involves
students using their new skills and talents to help themselves, and to help each
other at school, at home and in the community.
During the program, students and TACT
Coaches talked about an important need and
will now complete a
Community Service Learning Project to
address that need.

The Need:

To Reduce Arguments and Fights in the


Community by Spreading the Word About
Conflict Resolution and Anger
Management.
The Plan:

• CAY 2nd-5th grade students will create


convincing artistic anger management, conflict resolution, empathy or bullying;
to educate and inspire the community: and to help make the community a safer
place for everyone.
• 1 st, 2nd and 3rd place winning posters from each grade and I winner from
Ms. Apple's class will be chosen (Judging date will be announced).
• The 13 winning posters will be made into flyers for the community, and featured
on a Conflict Resolution Calendar. All posters will be on display.

Contest Rules:

I. Any medium may be used by 2nd graders (markers, paint, pencil,


photographs, stickers, appliques, etc.)
2. 3rd-5th Graders' posters must use technology/computer-aided-
graphic-design.
• Poster size must be: 8.5" x I l" for digital posters only and 12" x 18" for
others
3. A completed and signed ENTRY FORM must be attached to the
poster.
4. Posters MUST CONTAIN information, ideas, characters,
slogans and/or words from their TACT Conflict Resolution classes.
• THIS YEAR'S LESSONS AND VOCABULARY are listed below.
5. Posters will be judged on color (the less white space the better),
neatness, spelling, the message and accuracy. No copyrighted
material or images, except TACT logos, are allowed (l extra point will
be given for posters which creatively include one of the TACT logos).
6. Posters may be designed like an advertisement for the topic (selling it), or
a warning about consequences; to inform the viewer about a problem or
a solution (raise awareness); or to teach the community how to do
something (educate); etc. IT'S YOUR CHOICE! BE CREATIVE!
7. Entries must be submitted to the student's homeroom teacher by 2:00
p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.
8. PRIZES: All students will be rewarded in many ways! Winners will
receive VISA gift cards: 1 st place: $30; 2nd place: $20; 3rd place: $10.
The 13 winning posters will be made into flyers for the community,
and featured on a Conflict Resolution Calendar. All posters will be on
display.
9. Posters will be judged by non-partial members of the DPSCD, TACT Coaches and
community. Winners and Teachers will be notified by email and invited to be present
