Issue Describe the issue and how it makes the area
less comfortable and a suggestion for
improvement The R5 classroom/hallway As the floor plan above shows instead of creating a hallway within the downstairs R rooms, R5 was created in order to create a space for learning with tables and chairs but also as a hallway. However, this design hasn’t worked as originally anticipated as the space gets incredibly blocked up around the doorways due to the fact that there is only a small space available to walk through and large amounts of students trying to enter and exit. To improve, the classroom could be knocked through and replaced with a wide hallway allowing space for vast amounts of people to enter and exit without hassle and congestion. The window ‘upgrade’ which means that The windows now in many classrooms only windows cannot be opened wide extend to an opening of about 5 cm. This means that on a hot day it is difficult to let in cool air to ventilate the room especially when there are large amounts of students within the rooms. To improve, although some windows were made this way as a safety precaution which is understandable, windows on the lower level of the new build could be opened up wider to allow for better ventilation or other means of ventilation could be explored. The thin walls in the new build Between classrooms in the new build various moveable walls were implemented so that if needs be classrooms could be opened up into larger spaces to do a wide variety of lessons. This feature of the build is not only under used but also means that noise pollution occurs between classrooms making it harder to concentrate and do work but also harder to hear what is going on in the classroom you are in. To improve the walls could either be replaced or the different lessons could be spread out depending on how noisy the class is. The area leading to the M1 and M2 toilets is The area within where the toilets are is a small narrow narrow hallway and the toilets only hold two cubicles so queues can not only be long but can also be uncomfortable to wait in when people are trying to walk past. A suggestion for an improvement could be to create a larger space for students to use to enter the building or move the toilets to a more ideal location. The door from the hallway between the old When exiting the building from the door which building and the new building to get outside joins the old and new build together the door isn’t correctly placed always hits a light which is behind the door on the outside. This has resulted in this light getting repeatedly smashed and broken as it is difficult to not hit the light when opening the door. The light however could be moved to allow for more space for the door and a magnetic door catch can be put in place in order to stop the door from hitting the wall at the other side.
