PROCEDURE
Student Differentiation: Students will work in groups. In tableau, students will use a planning guide (writing and
drawing what they will create), demonstrate learning in a way all students can participate in, use self-assessment
for group work.
Introduction (time: 3 minutes)
Hook/Attention Grabber: Review from last class: think-pair-share questions.
Transition: Students know in advance that they will be working on and completing their tableaus today.
Body (time: 45ish minutes)
Learning Activity #1: Students will spend the rest of class planning and creating props for their Tableau.
Review the planning guide and the self-assessment as a class, be sure that students finish their planning guide
and show it to a teacher before creating their tableau. Explain that they will be presenting to the class at 3.

At 3pm: Students will present their tableau to the class. When the group presents, I will take a photo of it (how I
will mark). Explain to students to show respect to other groups: at the end of a group’s tableau snap instead of
clap. Students watching will be asked to explain what they believe is happening in the scene presented.
We will hand out self-assessment. Explain that you will have 5 minutes at the beginning of next class to
complete.

Closure (time: 2 minutes)

Transition To Next Lesson: We have learnt about the Rebellion in the Thirteen Colonies and Loyalists who
migrated to Canada. We have also explored how this event impacted Canadian identity.
Next class we will begin learning about the War of 1812.
