LIFE OF FREDERICK

DOUGLASS

Have you ever heard of a black African American by the name of Frederick
Douglass.Fredericks Douglass was a young child taken from his mother at
a young age forced into slavery.But is also determined to fight slavery,and
stands up for himself.There were many northerners who frederick douglass
knew would be sympathetic to slaves if they knew the true evils of
slavery.Sadly the northerners had been led to believe that slavery was
good for both for slaves and slave owners.The two focusing statements the
essay is going to be focused on is how douglass is being treated as a slave
and how frederick douglass stands up for himself.People who defended
slavery believed that slavery was good for slaves.But Douglass wanted
them to understand why slavery was so bad for slaves.On pg 46,para 1 it
states ¨Mr.Covey gave me a very severe whipping,cutting my back,causing
the blood to run,and raisin ridges on my flesh as large as as my little
fingers.¨ Additional evidence to that on page 47 para 4 it also states ¨Upon
this he rushed at me fierceness of a tiger , tore off my clothes,and lashed
me till he had worn out his switches cutting me so savagely¨. This shows
that slavery is terrible for slaves.This proves that slavery is physically bad
for slaves, because on pg 47 and 46 they describe how horrible they were
being beaten.So this body paragraph is about how douglass was being
treated as a slave,when taken from his mother.Douglass argued that all
slaves should be free.But douglass wanted them to understand that slavery
was not good for slaves,and that slavery corrupts slave owners. “Pg.33
para 4 it states” “It was at least necessary for her to have some training in
the exercise of irresponsible power,to make her equal to the task of treating
me as though i was a brute”. Additional to that it states on pg 31 “She did
not seem to perceive that i sustained to her the relation of a more
chattel,and that for her to treat me as a human being was not only wrong
but dangerous”.This shows that not only slavery is bad for slaves but it is to
slave owners as well.This proves that slavery can bring out the worst in
people such as Mrs.Auld for example.This body paragraph is still about
how douglass is being treated as a slave and how it
can bring the worst in people.Coming to the end Frederick Douglass is a
slave that is fighting to escape.So to some it all up Frederick is a black
native american who is being treated like a dog as a slave.This proves that
slavery is bad and we the people should stop it,and stand up for them.
