Windsor Park Parents & Fundraisers
Friends of Windsor Park Elementary

Dear Donor,

Thank you for your interest in the gymnasium construction for Windsor Park Elementary
School. We are an engaged group of parents with the goal of building a gymnasium for our new
campus, currently under construction at its original location on Alameda Street. Our goal is to
raise as much as $2.2 million, which is based on current estimates provided by school district
and Fulton Construction officials.
As part of the 2014 CCISD Bond Election, voters approved $100 million to construct
replacement campuses for Calk/ Wilson Elementary, Los Encinos Elementary and Windsor Park
Elementary Schools. The CCISD School Board approved construction for gymnasiums for Calk/
Wilson Elementary, which already had a privately donated gym, and Los Encinos Elementary.
While Los Encinos did not formerly have a gym, construction was approved after concerned
parents informed the board of poor air quality and wildlife threats. The Windsor Park campus is
the final school to be constructed as part of this bond. When Windsor Park parents began to
lobby school board members for gymnasium construction, school district officials informed
parents that there is a shortfall in funds.
WHY A GYMNASIUM?
We believe physical education is a vital part of our children’s physical and mental wellness. Our
students have lost 25% of outdoor physical education this year because of environmental
factors such as rain and excessive heat. During their indoor P.E. days, students, by grade level,
are instructed with videos in the P.E. instructor’s office or games in the cafeteria.
A gymnasium would provide an excellent location for community groups, such as the Boy
Scouts, Girl Scouts and the Boys & Girls Club, to help area students stay active, be involved in
team-building activities, and community services projects throughout the year.
A gymnasium can also highlight students’ achievements by providing a space for tournaments
and other academic and athletic competitions. Our students travel across the state and country
to compete in Destination Imagination, Computer Science and Mathematics competitions. Last
year, our computer science teams placed first nationally in the Computer Science competition
sponsored by the Continental Math League. In 2016, Windsor Park students also earned the
National Computer Science Champion designation. Hosting these competitions are a way to
showcase the best and brightest minds in Corpus Christi ISD.
ABOUT WINDSOR PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Windsor Park Elementary School in the only gifted and talented magnet elementary school in
the Corpus Christi Independent School District. Our students are selected from schools
throughout the district. The school is a member of the International Baccalaureate Programme.
The IB program promotes critical, cooperative thinking, community service and character
education while targeting global concepts and core academics.
Windsor Park Elementary is consistently ranked exemplary by the state and was ranked first
among nearly 2,000 Texas elementary schools this year by Schooldigger.com, an online
education research website that tracks school data.
Windsor Park Elementary School’s enrollment is currently 590 students. Currently, 28.1 % of
our students are designated as economically disadvantaged, and 4.1 % are English language
learners. We are proud that our school is one of the few elementary schools in the area that
successfully reduces the achievement gap between affluent and economically disadvantage
students. We ranked high on the state’s performance index in student achievement (100),
closing the achievement gap (84), student progress (68) and postsecondary readiness (95).
But statistics don’t tell the whole story. Our school community embraces and celebrates its
diversity of cultures, creativity and ideas. It is a school were learners love to be. All of this
success is due to the dedication of our students, faculty and staff. Our involved families show
tremendous support by volunteering on campus and providing educational support at home.
We invite you to get to know us with a visit to our campus.
Our fundraising endeavor is supported Corpus Christi ISD’s superintendent and legal counsel,
board members, and school stakeholders. Our goal is to honor our donor or donors with a
name dedication or plague at the gym. Construction completion for the new campus is
scheduled for summer 2019 and students are slated to return that fall. We hope that our
students will step into their new gym on the first day at their new school.
