Short Sumaries
These findings underscore the significance
of evaluating and monitoring bedtime in
adolescents and the importance of
intervention strategies that target bedtimes
in an effort to reduce associated functional
impairments, and improve academic and
emotional outcomes.
This research used analytic methods with
cross sectional design. Total of 177
respondents were selected by random
sampling technique. Sleep quality using the
Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and
the academic achievement of test scores
4.2 blocks. At the end of the study,
conducted chi-square test to determine the
relationship between the two variables. The
results showed that as many as 51 students
(65 %) have quality sleep and good
academic achievement, 27 students (35 %)
had a good sleep quality with poor
academic achievement, 43 students (43%)
had poor sleep quality with good academic
achievement, and 56 students (57%) had
poor sleep quality and poor academic
achievement. Based on chi square test p
value=0,004 (p<0,05). The study concluded
there is a relationship between sleep
quality with academic achievement for
medical education student class of 2010
medical faculty of Andalas University.
A frequency distribution of the bad sleep
quality and the less sleep quantity are the
most in the USU’s medical students with the
respective figures of 185 respondents
(61,7%) and 163 respondents (54,3%). The
result of Chi Square analysis also shows that
there is a significant relationship with the p
value <0,0001 (p≤0,05). Besides, the result
of multivariat analysis, which uses logistic
regression, shows a final model formula is
log p (bad academic achievement) =
-1,068+0,570(sleeping quality)
+1,303(sleeping quantity). There is a
relationship between the sleep quality and
quantity with the FK USU students’
academic achievement.
The sampling technique total sampling
involving 197 respondents that was
selected based on inclusion criteria. This
research used questionnaire for the
variable sleep quality and quantity of sleep,
and the value of the test block for the
variable of learning achievement. The
univariate analysis was results showed
35(17,8%) of the respondents had a good
sleep quality and 162(82,2%)
respondents had poor sleep quality, and the
results also showed of 197 respondents, as
many as 95(48,2%) respondents had
enough sleep quantity and 102(51,8%)
respondents had less sleep quantity.
Bivariate analysis was obtained by using
mann-whitney test and the statistic showed
p value for the quality of sleep (0.284) >
alpha (0.05), so it was concluded there was
no correlation between sleep quality with
learning achievement. For statistical results
quantity of sleep obtained p value (0.244) >
alpha (0.05). There was no correlation
between the quantity of sleep with learning
achievement.
There is a relationship between night sleep
duration and class of 2010 students’ mid
test score in Reproduction Block. This
mechanism itself is base on hippocampus.
The changing of temporary memory into
long-term memory is influenced by many
things. One of them is cholinergic activity
that activate the hippocampus. Beside that
there is also a mechanism called brain
plasticity that have an effect on memory
consolidation. From those things above
then there is a relationship between sleep
duration with memory which will influence
student score test.

91.7% of nursing student, class of 2013,

Tanjungpura University have poor sleep
quality. Most students (80%) obtained very
satisfying cumulative GPA. Students with
poor sleep have very satisfying cumulative
GPA (81,8%). There is no relationship
between sleep quality and cumulative GPA.
The result of the research showing that (a)
there are any difference of sleeping quality
between male students and female
students, and (b) there are no differences of
dreaming quality between male students
and female students.

A majority of student pharmacists had

suboptimal durations of sleep, defined as
fewer than 7 hours. Adequate sleep the
night prior to an examination was positively
associated with student course grades and
semester GPAs.
Few studies have looked at the
predictability of academic performance
(i.e., cumulative grade point average [GPA])
using sleep when common nonsleep
predictors of academic performance are
included. The present project studied
psychological, demographic, educational,
and sleep risk factors of decreased
academic performance in college
undergraduates. Subjects (N = 867)
completed a questionnaire packet and sleep
diary. It was hypothesized that low total
sleep time (TST), increased sleep onset
latency (SOL), later bedtimes, later wake
times, and TST inconsistency would predict
decreased academic performance. The
most significant predictors of academic
performance were high school GPA,
standardized test scores (i.e., SAT/ACT), TST,
time awake before arising (TWAK), TST
inconsistency, and the quadratic equations
of perceived stress (PSS) and TST.

Decreased nocturnal sleep time, late

bedtimes during weekdays and weekends
and increased daytime sleepiness are
negatively associated with academic
performance in medical students.
