The tower of power The position used for safe and powerful full
tackle or scrum
Tackle When the ball carrier is held by one or
more opponents and is brought to the
ground
Ruck When one or more players from each team,
who are on their feet, in physical contact,
close around the ball on the ground. Open
play has ended
Offside line When a tackle is made the hindmost part of
the tackled player and the tackler
Scrum When there is a forward pass, knock on or
the ball is not released in a ruck
Line-out Restart play quickly, safely and fairly, after
the ball has gone into touch, using a throw-
in between two lines of players
The direction that the ball is passed Sideways or backwards
The direction that the ball is not allowed to Forwards
be passed
Offside When a player is in front of a team mate
who has played the ball
Setting up a scrum Crouch, Bind, Set!
Overlapping run Passing the ball down the line and then the
first player joining the end of the line to get
passed a defender
Fixing a defender When you run in a straight line at a player,
then pass in the opposite direction to the
way that you moved to cause your
opposition to become off balance
Golden Egg How you should hold the ball when passing
Dodging What you do to move past defenders who
are attempting to tackle you
Communication Eye contact, hand signals and verbal calls
Knock on When a player loses possession of the ball
or the ball hits a player arm or hand and
goes forwards
