1. Pick a subject that you are interested in. This could be your favorite food, a pet,
or perhaps your favorite book.
2. Brainstorm how this subject makes you feel. Write down a list of adjectives and
then explain why you chose those adjectives.

3. Brainstorm multiple examples of figurative language. Your poem should include
at least three figurative devices.
- Metaphor
- Simile
- Personification
- Oxymoron
- Hyperbole
- Alliteration
- Allusion
4. Begin writing your poem. Keep your poem’s rhyme scheme and rhythm
consistent. You may choose whatever rhyme scheme you wish! Write a list of
rhyming words to help you brainstorm.

5. Your final poem should have f our to five stanzas consisting of 3 to 5 lines. In
order to create a detailed poem full of imagery and a lot of figurative language
you should try to make your poem fill about a
page.
6. This is your first draft. You are encouraged to create multiple drafts! The more
you work on your poem the better it will be.
The first draft will be due on Wednesday, March 14 during your ELA class.
