Hot Desking Feedback – Digipak

1. Please comment on the use of typography, does the font and size work?

The feedback for this question was predominantly positive. The comments for the use of
typography for the album cover panel mentioned that the font style of the artist and the
album name worked very effectively, the scratchy and handwritten style on the font
conveyed the theme of anger as well as an ‘unstable’ mentality. However, the use of
typography on the back of the album panel received positive and negative comments. The
feedback said that the italic style of the song titles worked effectively, because the
handwritten style was conveyed on the front and back of the album. Furthermore, size and
style of the songs didn’t overshadow the artist or album names. However, a few comments
mentioned that the size and boldness of the font could be altered to give the song titles a
slight increase in importance.

2. Please comment on the use of camera, do the shot types work effectively?

The comments for the album cover image and the double-panel image received positive
comments. The album cover photo was said to work effectively for the themes of the album
as well as the conventions of the rap genre. Furthermore, the double-page spread image
comments mentioned that the wide angle/long shot style photo was very effective for
conveying the theme of depression and isolation. For the image behind the CD, there was
mixed reactions. One comment mentioned that the style of the shot is very effective in
conveying the themes of the album, however, it is hard to identify that the artist is behind
the branches. However, I am not sure if I will rectify this image because my intention was for
it to be hard to identify the artist.

3. Does the aesthetic of the digipak convey dark connotations, such as loneliness, anger and
depression?

I received positive comments about the aesthetic of the digipak, such as how the use of
predominantly dark colours helped to convey the dark themes of the album (depression,
loneliness, anger). Furthermore, the style of the shots used reinforced this, the artist seems
distant and not at one with himself. However, a few comments said that the darkness of the
album could be amplified with extra design on the photos, such as digitally made scratching
on the photos to convey the deterioration of the artists mind.
