Peer Feedback Report (Group 3)

Daniel Wong Tiong Kong 130667

I commence this reflection by first looking at the overall organization of the lesson. In my opinion,
the teachers were well prepared for the class- they managed to start the class in an orderly,
systematic manner albeit the technical issue with the projector- by showing the students pictures
of the image they were originally going to project onto the screen. Their calmness when dealing
with the issue really impressed me. Furthermore, they also gave previews of the lecture and the
discussion content by: 1) engaging students’ interest with questioning method such as guessing
the topic the pictures and words shown, and 2) providing repeated instructions to the whole class,
before and while doing the activities. That said, the teachers were able to maintain focus on the
main topic discussed, and did not get sidetracked easily by students’ enthusiastic comments on the
topic- only giving replies when necessary. The teachers also managed to conclude the lesson by
recapping the things students have learned in class, and a reminder to apply it into their daily life.

Presentation-wise, teachers were good in responding to students increased attentiveness, which I

have mentioned before- keeping them entertained while not diverging from the main topic
discussed. However, I do noted some instances of speech fillers (e.g. ah…) when they were
lecturing, which was a bit annoying, but not to the point where it distracts me from discerning the
meaning they were trying to convey at that time. Another flaw I would note down is that the
teacher’s voice were soft, which I think would make it hard for them, should they be using the
same voice in a larger classroom setting with much noises from the students and the environment.
On the contrary, the good side of the teachers was that they were enthusiastic about what they were
teaching to the students, which then kept them engaged throughout the lesson. I personally think
the enthusiasm alone was enough to overcome the two problems I mentioned earlier, though the
frequent eye contact and close interaction (going from group to group) established with the
students may have also helped with it.

In establishing rapport with students, the teachers have already done so remarkably through their
usage of prompts inducing students’ participation and feedbacks. The first teacher also, instead
of asking for a volunteer, called up a student’s name- showing the familiarity of the teacher with
the students, besides saving time for the upcoming activity. However, there was a time where the
second teacher did not really hear the question asked by me and my partner very well, to which
she responded that she also didn’t know the answer to it, before giving us a few answers again
later on- which I think should be avoided at all cost in class. On another note, the students were
given minimal but fruitful feedbacks from teachers, who had also made certain that the time
allocated for the activity is adequate enough, which goes on again to show that they were well
prepared for the class.

All in all, these teachers were quite good with their lesson, though they could have improved on
their speech fluency, and structure, so that the instructions for certain activities may be carried
out smoothly with less confusion, which can be exemplified via the part where they assigned
students into groups.
