SUMMATIVE Student Clinical Performance Evaluation
Which objective did you accomplish during this rotation? How did you do it?
I continued to work on therapeutic communication, assessment skills, and seeing the big picture/connecting the dots with
all my patients. I was able to complete a medication pass, which allowed me to get more comfortable with doing so and to
remind me to watch the simplest of things (like the scanner working on all the meds/information to put into it). The
constant practice with determining heart monitor rhythm strips was extremely beneficial throughout this rotation. I feel like
I finally have a better grasp on how to interpret the rhythms and what they could mean for my patient(s) at hand. This also
helps to tie in the purpose of certain medications being used. Each experience obtained through this rotation has allowed
me to practice my skills and grow as a nursing student and future RN.
What are your goals for future work in the clinical setting?
My goals for future work in the clinical setting are to continue to work on therapeutic communication, building rapport with
my patients, perfecting assessment skills and clinical skills (injections, foley catheter insertions, etc), and seeing the big
picture/connecting the dots for each of my patients. I will continue to work on prioritizing appropriate nursing diagnoses for
each patient as well. A lot of this will come with time and experience, but it is nice to be able to say I feel a lot more
comfortable and confident in the nursing field and with my skill set than I did at the start of this program.
Faculty Comments/ Student Learning Goals (Goals must be established even if performance is satisfactory.
If an item was identified as N or U, narrative comments are necessary to clarify student performance along
with goals to improve performance).
Lindsey, you made excellent progress and improvement this rotation demonstrating your ability to identify
abnormal cardiac rhythms, connect pathophysiology with symptom presentation and abnormal lab values, and
participating in multiple patient care specialties including CCU, OR, PT, OT, and respiratory therapy. You were
able to participate in multiple cardiac procedures including CABG, TAVR, and MAZE; you successfully straight
catheterized a patient, and administered medications to 2 patients. Your ability to perform competent and
quality nursing care is evident, while documenting thorough assessments, lab values, and rhythm
identification. You will do well in the nursing world.
