He may only get a "Soggy biscuit"..........!

Too slow. Unless you bank with Nedbank than you bet me to it
reflecting.

rechardt 2015/06/26, 10:59 AM

This is going to be a good exercise. I think to many people take the load
capacity of there vehicles and offroad trailers for granted and the
subsequent overloading contributing to excessive tyre wear and fuel
consumption.

Agree. Taking mine along packed as if I was going on a long trip. Drawer
System, RTT ect.

rechardt 2015/06/26, 12:19 PM

Its interesting because if you have a trailer with a 150l water tank.
Which is roughly 150 kilos if its filled at point of departure its an extra
150kg one forgets about. So maybe a good idea to fill those as well
before weighing in.

JurgenH 2015/06/26, 12:28 PM

I'd like to know what mine weighs. Payment made, FNB to Nedbank, so
not sure when it'll reflect.

Jurgen that's true. Like your Jeep. After market front..rear bumpers and
a bulky spare wheel carriers does change the Tare weight. ..plus a few
extra kilos with that winch an all those light bars..

I think if you own a 4x4 a caravan should be allowed. If the caravan is

what you use when you go to GTG's

Caravans can't go off-road.;D
Besides, they are too low & slow & will delay the process.
Real men use Off-Road trailers.:)

Obviously caravans like the Conqueror Commander & Jurgen Xcape are
OK.
But we don't need some oke pitching with his 9m long, 7 sleeper Sprite...

Will it have any consequences with your insurance if you are over your
vehicle's legal weight specifications.

YES, JMPD will be there. You will be rewarded appropriately.

Not quite sure which flavor biscuits they issue. IIRC they are either Pink
or White.

Looking at my TARE vs GVM today I realised I'm only legally allowed to

pack around 470kg into (and on top of) my Disco 4. Seems way too low
for a 7 seater. 7x70kg adults and there no remaining weight for their
luggage.

With my current setup, I expecting to way overloaded.

Well done to all involved. I did not weigh as I am busy with my Puma's
mods.....

Was good meeting Raymond and seeing some old friends again.

I had to leave for Nigel and HenriS's place to pick up the bending brake I
bought from him. I had to travel past Qualter's place......jis I was scared
then, did not want to stop at the robots for fear my tyres may get
stolen.
But then, I had to run the gauntlet through Brakpan's central district......I
was even more scared........jis you okes stay in wild country down
there......

The Big Weigh In by TuffStuff & the 4x4 Action Group

A VERY successful event. Thank you Raymond & the Tuff Stuff team.

I got, for my R100.00:

Coffee (2 cups).
Breakfast.
A Key Holder.
A Fire Extinguisher (lik e I drive a D3 )
My Fortuner weighed.
My Conqueror weighed.
A Certificate with the weights.
A 4x4 Action Group Cap.
Two beers.

But, most importantly, awareness of how easily mods on a vehicle & a

loaded trailer can be an overweight problem...

Spook's rig won the day = Ford F250 & Conqueror Commander tipping
the scales at 6 tons!

Agree, big thanks to Raymond and team and the rest of the guys that
put it together. Thought I'd be way over the allowable weight but came
in at 3140kg, so not too bad. Thanks guys!

Those Disco's were heavy.

Not Land Cruiser heavy.
Not F250 heavy.
But heavy.
The Hummer H3 is nearly a ton lighter than a D4?

Spook 2015/08/01, 02:49 PM

A big thank you to Raymond, Tuff Stuff and all involved in today's weigh
in.

It's highly appreciated.

For us it's back to the drawing board - Both the F250 and the
Commander will be put on a very strick diet

Got to shed quite a few kilo's

Thanks again guys!!

My tanks we're full. However to compensate for the empty trailer;D

Oosies 2015/08/01, 08:17 PM

Thanks Raymond. Was a great eye opener and realisation that I am in

trouble the next time I pack to go away. Tip: avoid weighbridges :D

Jeep with no spare tyre, no winch, with all accessories removed except
steal bumper came in at 2480 when max GMV is 2540.

Jurgen XT which is relatively empty that I had to fill water tanks to get
some weight was 1060.

Going forward, I will travel in convoy and evenly distribute my gear

between fellow forumites...

I have never, in two years of trailer ownership, put water in the tanks,
other than to flush them out...

Do what Kingsley Colgate does and convert your water tanks to beer
kegs (he does Rum though) so you can make use of them...

sakush 2015/08/01, 08:33 PM

thank you Tuffstuff, D4 and I, need a small diet. But my metalian can
take up the excess.
Good to know where we stand with our vehicle weights, also good news
for the poor married guys, they can now show their swambo's that they
CANNOT take everything::)

Actually, the Pajero has a GVM of 3030kg with a TARE of 2275kg. Based
on my weights yesterday, SWAMBO is able to pack 950kg in the car and
trailer

Was the Pajero's tank close to full?

Defender TAZ 2015/08/02, 08:54 AM

Raymond. Thank you for an Awsome morning. The Landy tipped in at

2750kg
300kg short of the gvm. Still need to load full tanks of diesel, full freezer,
clothes, booze, water tank on roof and SWAMBO 😉 And I thought my
packing was slim and trim. Don't know where to start..

I didnt know you took your own beers with? Don't you "borrow" from the
other campers?

Besides, 100kg of beer is about 300 beers

ya you rite
but I only "borrow" if you are around or else its not fun:D

but if you had to listen to your own singing ( like we have too) you
would also run out of beer trying to drink yourself deaf:D:D:D

informative.

Changes 2015/08/04, 06:08 PM

Thanks for the day Tuff Stuff... but more thanks for the Breakfast, Beers
and general chat...
Mad Manny was packed, or so he claims. Yet we weighed the same to
the gram..??
Mmmmmm soming fishy here, maybe even me..!! So no finger pointing
and or blame..
The big question now... are we all going to give up 4x4 and camping due
to weight problems..?? Are we going to sell our rooftop tents and sleep
in the car..?? Are we going to reduce our water tanks to 5 litres only,
stop boozing and poach animal for the braais..??
Some decisions needs to be taken..??

Fearless wasn't packed. Had a full recovery kit, a chair, some banners &
3/4 tank.
Must be the drivers then - I have a Onca bumper, bash plates, sliders
etc...;D

Chris Stoffel 2015/08/04, 09:49 PM

Interesting this weigh in exercise. Is the conclusion that people pack to

heavy or very close to maximim?

Not in my case, I was well within the limits of both car and trailer :)

Manny,

Your car is fine, your trailer is fine, the trouble starts whenever you get
in behind the steering wheel.;D
