Developing an inquiry
The changing face of Aotearoa

The ethnic make-up of New Zealand is becoming more diverse. We have moved from a bi-cultural nation to one that is
multicultural. Our challenge is to embrace diversity and take advantage of the opportunities this offers. Other New
Zealanders express their customs, traditions and values through their own cultural practices. By becoming a globally aware
kura we expand our school community’s knowledge and grow as citizens of the world.

At Hillcrest Normal School we have students from many different cultures in the Junior team. We would like to
acknowledge and value the culture that they come from. We want to encourage and support all our students to become
global citizens, capable of thriving in an interconnected world.
