Research Skill Method

A. Rationalism:
i. Logical Reasoning
• Ideas are precisely stand so that it makes a good reasoning and sounding
conclusion.
ii. Presented in the form of Syllogism
• Reflects the problem with gaining knowledge by logic.
• Derived from major and minor premises.
✓ If the premises are true then the conclusion is valid.
✓ If the premises aren’t true, then the conclusion logically valid but
empirically fast.
iii. Logic the concept is Syllogism + without content.
iv. Advantages and disadvantages this research method:
Advantages Disadvantages
It is a logic statement based on syllogism There is no proof to support the statement;
therefore, not all of us agree with the
statement.

Examples:

➢ So rational people basically more sensible or judgment therefore they make decision
thinking based on fact, for example cake involves a “series” of “steps” before it is to
be bake in the oven.
Researches doesn’t use this method because they tend to need the form and the content,
whereas Rationalism only sees the beginning without thinking or looking more to it.

B. Empiricism:
i. Where we find information, and understanding knowledge through objective
observation.
ii. Experiences of the senses.
iii. Observation form:
✓ Hearing
✓ Seeing
✓ Tasting
✓ Smelling
✓ Touching
iv. This method not use any data.
v. Advantages and Disadvantages this research method:
Advantages Disadvantages
It is a fact statement based on experience The statement is not systematic and
or observation necessary not logical

Examples:

➢ Empirical people decide based on what they observe. There are 2 ways to observe
which is qualitative and quantitative. For example, when we are holding a rock and
we are about to throw it to the ground. The qualitative way to observe it is to look at:
(1). The rock has mass (2) when release, the rock falls to the ground (3) it took
sometimes to the ground. And the quantitative way to observe is: (1) the rock has
mass 150g (2) when release the rocks fall perpendicular path to the ground (3) it took
1.5 second to the ground.
Both method are similar but the second method are more valid because it has are information.

If we use empiricism method only, it does not enough to make it as a good resource of
knowledge since the statement is not systematic and necessary not logical. Making a good resource
of knowledge, we need to combine Rationalism and Empiricism Consequently, the statement are
logical and based on fact.
