Hospitals review in Malaysia 2017 for new housemans

Hospital Sultanah Aminah

Provide a good experience for you. Life is tough here with on and off shortage of houseman
every 2-3 months. Tolerable seniors and specialists, some are good and some are shyte. But
you learned a lot. Good opportunities to develop yourself and your skills. Wide varieties of
clinical cases available for your choices. Good mortuary for post mortem posting and super
busy ED if you are interested. We welcome all newcomers with open heart. Manual hospital.
But we do have online system for lab result & OT cases

Hospital Serdang
Memakai sistem computer, notes, order ubat, radiology boleh dibuat melalui komputer tetapi
memerlukan masa utk adapt sistem komputer pada awalnya, komputer pula limited pada
kaunter HO, jika ramai HO di dalam ward perlu berebut komputer. utk first poster it is
expected utk adapt to the system for a while tetapi kena cepat pick up sbb ada sstgh MO
xboleh tolerate kerja slow.

serdang memakai flexy hour, cuma satu dept skrg ni, surgical yg mmkai sistem on call,
kerana ketandusan HO. jikalau HO ramai pada suatu dept jadual insyaAllah best, boleh
disusun cantik as long tiada yg MC/EL/MIA

working environment ok sbnrnya, saya baru 3rd poster, MO,specialist, consultant ok as long
boleh buat kerja, ikut peraturan dan xda buat masalah ini generalised je lah ya
Yup from my point of view dealing with HOs for the pass few years; serdang is one of the
best in term of HO training; very structured assessment (could be tough but you'll learn a lot)
& lots of awesome senior HO
Serdang ok. toughest postings - medical and peads (both pon lbh kurg sama extension rate)
but mmg akn learn alot n quite good hands on exposure yg akn dpt. plus u get to hv cardio
paeds rotation coz sini cardio centre. peads ada eop viva, I think certain other hosp xde.
besides tht ok insyaAllah

Hospital Taiping
I'm a 3rd poster kat htpg. Finished o&g & medical. So far so good.

O&G ok la. Lots of hands on. You can conduct, do episiotomy a lot. X perlu nk berebut.
Selalu kat lr ada 3 ho je. 3 tu la yang handle pac, labour & assist csec

You'll learn a lot kat medical. Sini xde istilah jaga cubicle. During my time awal awal kena
incharge the whole ward alone. Sekarang paling ramai pun 2-3 orang 1 ward. So kena learn
utk prioritise kerja & master skills cepat. Selalunya kena buat peritoneal tap, plural tap
venesection etc sendiri. So hands on tu banyak la
o far x kena extend lagi. So dont want to comment about that. As long as you can prove you
are reliable good knowledge probably you wont get extension.

1 ward minimum 28 beds but boleh ada extension

Taiping skrg dh ok compare to before.kat medical ramai new mo,so they are still learning
and u can learn with/from them.dh kurang sgt mo malignant (may be few)..i heard medical
skrg ramai my friend kena extend esp bila xcukup org..complete ur logbook
Ortho oso quite ok compare to before..ray amputation (google pls) hari2 ada where some
other hospital buat ray dalam ot bu we do bedside here 😂.
otherwise, ong still jd first in hierarchy utk extend org.previously,as long u complete ur
logbook, present n buat viva, should be okay tp skrg i heard kena ambk sign few mo yg
ehemm2
Paeds is the best.(i think maybe because of hod dia malay, very handsome, very nice,n very
fatherly).just some mo will cause u trouble but as long as u do ur job,dnt bother.
Surgical pn plg best.jarang sgt org kena extend..
As conclusion, in some dept specialist ok,tp mo not so.some dept mo ok,but u gonna have
trouble with specialist..just put in ur mind,as long as u do ur work, persetankan smua yg lain
They do extend if u have attitude problem, logbook xlengkap, malas n very rare but possible
dept akn extend cz lack of people..
Welcome to taiping..mmg suffer in d beginning, but once u go out from here,N survive this 2
years,nothing can stop u
Im now kat 6 th posting.ed shud be fun..
Lupa nk ckp, sini tulis tangan je.guna semua sense yg ada msa nk tulis.mmg akn ad prob awal
sbb xfhm term.procedure bila xramai org,mmg dpt kalau ramai ho time tu,mmg
berebut.asrama dulu murah.rm 40 sbb asrama nurse.satu bilik kecik 2 katil.skrg dh naik n sgt
mahal.kalu ho punya hostel, besar tp time hujan lebat ,banjir mmg smpai ke lutut..sewa kat
area sini blh cr kat taman suria, aulong, around tesco n aeon.btw,im finishing my ho
soon.rumah skrg is very affordable.tp xsure by april/may dh blh kosongkn sbb my husbnd
still here.may be in june o july..

Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim

This one i got from my senior working in hsah. Currently 4th poster

Department start with the medical/ surgical

Established the basic mngkment of common case yg slalu encounnter
Then switch dgn either ortho/ ong/ paeds. Logbook isi 1/3 during tagging besides tagging
logbook. Then target 1/2 during 2nd months. 2nd month will usually had assesment so be
prepared. HSAH - got hostel for nurse. Ada HO yg sewa situ ada yg sewa kuarters. Ada sewa
tmn ria plg dekat. But recently byk kes pecah masuk rumah HO 😓. Sbb kita slalu xdak kat
rumah.

Kalau hsah
- shift time/ pm shift 7-10/11 pm
- am shift 7-4 pm
- double shift 7-4pm then 9/10 pm- 12/2 pm next day
Tagging - 7-10pm for 6 days off then 6 days off

Ikutla.. Kdg tagging 2 weeks ja, kdg 3 weeks

Tagging modt tiring but xdak responsibility sgt. But see how the pm shift people work.

Pm shif usually the boss of the day sbb

- must trace all pending ward work then distribute the work among other
-
Mmg yg usually encounter. Tu yg pnat 😓

Bilangan bed average ;

Medical 40 full
Paeds 50
Ortho pun 30++
Accodingly either 2-3/6-8 patient per ho

Hospital Tawau

Hospital Sultan Ismail

I'm from HSI. Its a fully computerised 😓. To tell u the truth initially it's quite a tough time
for me to adapt with the system. But somehow I managed. Now I would say comp hospital is
rather easier. In term of training, I think it's good too. My medical Mo are the awesome one.
There are so concerned about me being a 1st poster in medical department. If u dilemma in
choosing a hospital, I can tell u 1 thing. This is his answer when I ask him where is the best
training hosp in penisular. Being 5 years away from fly (studied in UMS) he said "choose a
hospital near ur hometown bcoz its the time for u to serve ur family. Hoship is all about how
u can cope with the stress and workload. Thats y a strong support system is a must for a HO.
Every hospital is a good training center if u are always willing to learn. " quoted from prof
suhaimi, paediatrician

SARAWAK GENERAL HOSPITAL (SGH) / Hospital Umum Sarawak

EXTENSION RATE : high in O&G and Paeds, moderate in Ortho, low in Surgical and
Medical.

WORKLOAD : Even this is tertiary hosp about 450-500 HOs we still shortage of HO quite
sometime. Most of the time u will review 1 cubicle, if not enough HO, u will need to cover
up to 2 cubicles.

SYSTEM : Fully manual. You need to go down to Radio, to trace report and film, you need
to go to lab to trace any result. This is very stressful for me. Bcoz we waste a lot of our time
and energy here. We already make multiple complaint but still no improvement.

LEAVE : Here if u request leave, usually 99% you will get it approved. For any festive
season also the chance to get is high bcoz we multiracial here, predominantly chinese, malay
and indian quite same numbers, we also got Bumiputera working together happily.

OFFDAY : No offday in Paeds and Surgery. You work everyday unless you request for 8-day
leaves (Annual leave). Other posting, 1 offday.

ONCALL HOURS : Oncall in Surgery is the longest (30-36H), O&G (24-31H), the rest of
posting (19H). Medical is the shortest (14H but 4 night in a rows).

WORKING HOURS : most of the posting 6am-5pm/6pm, but we usually come at 5.30am, if
short of people, 4.30am. Usually go back also late, bcoz joblist quite many. MO round
usually 7.00am-7.30am. Round only BD during shift hours (AM and PM round), then we
have oncall round for oncall peeps).

ASSESSMENT : O&G, Paeds and Ortho assesment is quite tough here. O&G we got extra
logbook, need to perform caesar, ultrasound assessment, etc. Ortho got CMR/POP/LCD
assesment + compulsory sheet to be completed before eligible for OSCE (final assesment).
Paeds im not sure, coz not enter yet. Medical and Surgical (moderate).

LANGUANGE BARRIER : There is not much an issue. It is understandable. Rarely we met

patient that we unable to communicate. Pt here also very nice, not much complaint. For male
HO, O&G also not a proble for you bcoz here no such thing as "Female Staff Only"

You will have a good learning curve here. KCH also a good place to live. Good scenery,
cultures and environment. I pray and wish all the best to yalls for ur Housemanship. Become
a doctor is best moment in life, you will feel tough at the beginning, but never never never
quit. It will start rough, windy, and with thunderstorm, eventually after 2-3 months you will
make it and see the beauty in this profession.
Add on input for SGH/HUS

RUMAH SEWA : Here we dont have hostel for HO. So, we need to rent a house. Usually the
rental house RM1200-1500, fully furnished house. The distance to hosp about 5-10min.

TRAFFIC and PARKING : The traffic here is acceptable. Traffic jam, hmmmm not that long.
About parking, yes it is limited, but since we come at work early in the morning, it is not an
issue.

ALLOWANCE : Here we got extra allowance, if u from Peninsular, u'll get about RM500
extra salary.

HANDS ON PROCEDURE : we got a lot of chance here. But it depends on our initiative to
ask for it. In Medical a bit competitive to get procedure, bcoz we have a lot of MO compare
to HO.

HKL

-we have quarters for HKL HOs in Keramat I think, you may apply during the orientation
time, it will deduct RM400 from your monthly salary allocated for accomodation.
-labcoats for Ho is a must. We even have a Doctor's coat rental (FOC) in the hospital, pinjam
bersih, then if kotor pulangkan semula to that counter.

SYSTEM: Manual, but lab results you get to trace it on the labviewer/MYLIS system .
(However Maternity Hospital is moving out to the new building -Women and Children
Hospital in HKL somewhere in May/June, heard that this hospital will be fully
computerized.)

Otherwise you can expect thick patients' BHT for the chronic ones, you need to fill in tracer
forms to trace patients' old notes, plenty of documentation prior discharging
patients(discharge notes/discharge summary/casemix), and written case summary for few
blood investigations. This also means your handwriting and documentation must be legible.

That is why Dr Iliana Mohamad always emphasized on memorizing the shortforms/universal

abbreviations, so that even as a first poster you could write fast as you already familiarized
with those terms during rounds.

EXTENSION RATE: I have heard that HKL is one of the hospitals with high extension rate.
As far as I am concerned, if you have good attitude, no unnecessary MCs/ELs/ no MIAs,
comes to work, does your job, approach the specialist for assessment earlier than when you're
supposed to finish, fills your logbook accordingly, works efficiently so you can finish your
job early you may attend the teachings/CMEs, have a good relationship with your
colleague/staffs, I don't think you'll get extended.
CME/ Department teaching is one of the reasons people got extended.

WORKING HOURS:
Medical:
AM shift is from 7AM-7PM (on sheet, practically you'll come way earlier and goes back may
be later depending on you pending tasks)
Oncall system, that means if you are oncall, from today 7AM till 12PM next day, but mind
you it depends on your pending jobs/condition of the ward/number of admissions, some go
home at 7PM postcall.. nearly 36hours of working.

Surgical/O&G/Paediatric:
BD shift
AM : 7AM -7PM
PM : 7PM-11AM following day (but in Surgical I think usually the PM HOs will come
earlier around 5pm like that to take passover, the passover is from bed to bed for the entire
ward so it takes time)

Orthopedics:
S1, S2, S3
S1 : 7AM-5PM
S2 : 7AM-10PM (7AM-5PM you will be working in your given ward for the entire 4months,
after 5PM you'll be covering about other 2-3 different wards OR you'll be in the ED seeing
Ortho cases with MOs)
S3 : 7AM-4PM then break, come back at 10pm till 11AM following day

OFFDAY:
Generally once a week in all postings. Unless there is too shortage of HOs, no Off day, only
postcall off–that means you go back at 7AM the next day, not 11AM usually.

LEAVES:
General rule is to apply 2 weeks prior the dates you are taking leaves. Same as offday, if there
is too shortage of HOs in the department, specialist in charge may not approve the leaves.

WORKLOAD:
-Very bad in Medical. Up to 15-16 admission a night. But it is enjoying if you are proactive,
MOs/registrar will let you do procedures on your own (under supervision). You'll learn a lot.
-Surgery is always 'kaya HO', sometimes one HO takes care of only one patient per day.
-Ortho - I think Okay, manageable.. but if too shortage of HOs, one Ho will cover one ward
with 4cubicles 34-40 patients like recently happened.
We have teams for subspecialties like Sport team/Spine team/Paeds Ortho team/Onco team..
some may refuse to join team in this department because it means extra commitment than
general ortho HO, but if you were chosen to be in any of the team, enjoy.. you'll be direct
under a specialist/consultant of the team that will definitely teach you.

-Pediatrics, manageable.. MOs are nice so it's enjoyable. Worst situation is needs to cover
4cubicles per day if shortage of HOs.
-O&G a very 'fast' department, needs you to work fast and efficient, fetal distress means to
get the baby out ASAP. tiring.. but I like because it's like a 'template', after some time in the
department you'll know the expected management for the given diagnosis.
CASES:
HKL is a tertiary hospital, many of subspecialties in our hospital. You get to see many cases
as well, you may not be posted to the respective department with the subspecialties; but you
may learn from the notes of the team that sees the patient when we refer cases
interdeparment.
i.e. Endocrine team, Dermatology in Medical, Neuromedical, Neurosurgical,
Vascular/Breast&Endocrine team in Surgery, Plastic team, Paediatric dermatology.. etc etc.

TAGGING :
General rule, 2 weeks as a first poster, 7days if you are 2nd poster and above. Offtag
assessment after 2weeks/that 7days. O&G and Medical have separate taggingbook; you have
to complete certain amount of procedures before approaching the specialist for offtag
assessment. There are few malignant specialists that will re-tag you if you are found not
competent after you have been offtagged. Sad, but true.

6th POSTING:
You'll get to choose PSYCHIATRY/ED/ANAESTH/KK ; depending on availability.

---
I think I have covered basic area, btw not once my MOs said HKL is not the best place for
HO training. You have to compete with many tagging MOs for procedures, we tend to refer
cases to other department than managing it ourselves because we have the facilities and the
subspecialties, but if you are fated to be here.. just do your best, do not take things for
granted, be resilient, show interest.. and enjoy the 2 years, "redah je," and good family
support is a must!

First poster from hkl here.

About to finish medical posting.

Hkl is fully manual, except tracing blood investigations, ada computer. There are pros and
cons of manual. If u need to trace old notes, chances are u need to go to clinics and find the
files. Same goes for xrays, ct films, usg.

Hkl ada banyak subspecialities, so u get to learn from them. Kita ada medical, gastro, nephro,
uro, endocrine, neuro, onco, to name a few. So u get to see cases.

Rarely we need to refer to other hospitals, unless cardio in serdang or hemato in ampang.

We work long hours, definitely. Medical oncall 2x a week, at least 24 hours. Usually 28.
Sometimes 36 hours.

Medical is the busiest, once your done u will be fine.

Surgical is the most malignant.

Overall, hkl is good. Because we get priorities for ho intake. If u guys come in one batch,
chances are u will have a good start as there are many HOs.

Just to put it to perspective, hkl medical ho takes care of 4-5 patients in average. 8 is already
considered many. Can compare that to other hospitals.

Do come to hkl. 😓 boring2 boleh pergi klcc, pavilion

Hospital ampang
Salam. Bismillah. Before buat pilihan nak pilih hospital ampang tu dgr mcm mcm gak cth
mcm medical ni confirm extension la and so on. Tp atas sebab nk dekat dgn family so gagah
jugak pilih ampang. Lepas dah start housemanship dan dah kenal sikit structure hospital
sbnrnya sama mane mane. Ade je yg berjaya habis on time especially on medical kalau
extension pulak tgk attitude kita bekerja jugak. Specialist tak sewenang wenang nak extend
kalau kita perform. Kat sini guna system computerized dan HO Ampang Guide mmg
membantu guide kita mcm mane nak tackle department tu even kadang soalan offtag selalu
keluar dari tajuk dlm Ampang guide cuma kene rajin bukak balik buku jugak tuk info
tambahan. Kawan kawan HO lain semua supportive. Masa mula masuk mmg terus kene
function as a doctor. Dulu masa mula mula kalau bukan sbb kwn senior HO lain ade mmg
agak lost. Kalau bab specialist dgn MO tu standard ade yg garang ade yg sempoi just kene
pandai fit in.

Key of survival is always teamwork.

Hospital Klang

Hosp lama,
Sush parking,
Sempit,
Serabut,

System :

bukan computerised system,

semua manual,
No aircond

Patient :

Malaysian
Non malaysian
Pendatang asing

Cases :

Byk, mcm mcm

Working environment :

Workload tgi
Patient ramai
Admission byk
Specialist ramai
Mo ramai
Ho sikit
Sn bergantung

Perangai specialist mo malignant semua tu biasa la..ada yg baik ada tak..just pk nk belajar
and avoid la bende2 yg bole buat kene marah..sbb tu penting kerjasama dan effort utk
belajar... mmg la kene marah kalau pt dlm ward plan for op ambik darah kol 6 pg kol 5 ptg
tak trace lgi bila trace kol 6 ptg time pm shift Hb pt 6 jdi kene pandai2

jgn byk alasan..pt nephro sush masuk branula kene cuba jugk la takkan nk biar je kalau tak
cuba mmg tak dpt la skill insert branula tu..cucuk je kene buat hati kering..mmg sakit tp
benefit tu patient dpt ho pun dpt

Byk bnde yg remeh pun ho kene buat (sbb sn pun busy and ade setengah ward sn sikit)

Eg:
trace old notes pt
Cri bottle, needle, syringe utk darah
Prepare brg utk procedure

Procedures :

Byk procedure still MO buat unless HO volunteer nk buat, tp overall still byk procedures MO
buat (maybe belum bole trust Ho punya findings or nk jimat masa sbb pt ramai)

Overall,

1. hospital yg terlalu ramai patient, dan bermacam ragam, bila ramai patient dan mcm2 ragam,
ho hosp ni akn terlatih utk :

-Buat kerja dgn cepat dan efficient

-Tahu mana nk prioritise,
-bole buat 2-3 kerja sekali gus sayang nk buang masa sbb setiap saat berharga

Eg:

smbil tgu pt buat ct bole fill up blood form utk coming morning blood

Turun utk hntr darah alang2 tu trace blood culture utk satu ward terus, ho lain senang
specialist happy, and tak yah la nk tgu lift yg lambt or turun naik tga 8 tingkt

-Manage masa dgn sebaik mungkin, sbb x nk next shift ho burden and pk nk balik on time
sbb tak sanggup dah nk muntah tgk kes dgn pesakit yg tak berhenti
-terlatih utk bekerjasama dan tolong menolong sesama rakan ho, sbb kdg2 admission serentak
8,satu shift bole smpi 35 admission kalau sorg je ho nk buat admission relative mengamuk,
ada pt mungkin collapse dkt tmpt menunggu, bole termiss pt yg kene inform mo condition dia
tak stable jdi bila semua buat kerja cepat ramai2 dtg tlg settle admission, ambik darah
possibility utk miss jdi rendah dan kerje pun siap cepat jdi tak de la mo dtg/specialist dtg
round tgk byk lgi case yg tak settle

2. Byk penyakit yg berulang ulang, DM,HPT,asthma, COPD, gastric ulcer, ESRF, dengue
bykkkkkkkk sgt tak terlist

if a ho tak take things for granted mcm sekadar follow plan or sekadar tgu mo dtg review dan
tulis seen by tak study tak ambik initiative utk belajar manage pt mmg rugi sbb lama2 bila
asik jumpa penyakit dan pesakit yg sama kita bole nmpk pattern nk treat..bole tahu darah apa
nk ambik or nk repeat, tahu nk treat mcm mna even at certain point ho pun bole nmpk yg
condition pt ni tak stable and bole inform mo/specialist cepat so nnt tak de la jdi the blaming
game...and adala rasa jdi ho ni bukn jdi lipas tak berguna..sbb bila ho bole identify prob and
bole bg a certain level of management itu dah good enough,

x salah bg plan/idea nnt counter check dgn mo and kdg2 mo and specialist lgi suka sbb dia
tahu ho ni tak follow je..

3.

Utk theoretical wise a good place to revise...

Practical wise - masih byk procedure yg mo buat ho sekadar tolong2 mcm bukakkan glove,
tuang antiseptic agent lari cri gauze or size cbd prepare bandage jdi rugi, ho kene cuba gain
trust mo pastu kene volunteer utk nk buat procedure..x ckp nk buat maka tgk je la..jdi 4 bulan
posting kalau forever nk assist chest tube insertion maka 4 bulan tu cuma akn berjaya assist je
la..kene ckp nk buat then bru la bole buat tp before that kene la tunjuk serious nk betul2 nk
belajar, mo pun risau silap buat yg nk kene jawab nnt mo tu..

Ni pengalaman, 1st posting ong, bila mo tny nk scan tak selalu ckp errmm bole tak nk belajar
nk assist dulu, sbb pk 1st posting takot..tgk tgk dah habis 4 bulan posting scan pt 2x je..mmg
4 bulan berakhir dgn pandai assist tuang gel atas perot ibu dgn lap gel leps scan..lps tu
menyesal

4.surviving skill yg tinggi

- dah terbiasa busy insyaAllah bila jdi mo pg hosp district bole survive,
-byk buat kawan, akn membentuk diri jdi baik, tak selfish, saling bntu membntu dan
menggembirakan satu sama lain...bila stress sgt kwn2 la tmpt berlawak main,

Byk lagi psl hosp klang, sbg bekas ho, conclusion mmg bole ckp best sgt time ho dkt hosp
ni...penat lelah ilmu yg dapat rasa worth sgt2

Semoga yg tgh ho di htar/bakal ho htar tak sia kan peluang

Htar is state hospital
So if u want to learn a lot of things this is the place

Jujur from me
Workload-heavy (tak leh nak buat apa2 lah)
Stress-a lot (makesure ade stress management strategies)
Gaji-after 3 months max depending kpd berapa ramai org msuk
Mo/specialist-ho relationship-good especially in medical posting
Hostel-tak best (better sewa luar)
Makan-free depending on posting ape, mkn diet patient la ye
Nurse-ho relationship-😓😓
Experiences gain-depending kpd ur efficiency
Hands on procedure-byk, tu pon depend kepada efficiency masing2

If cekap n pantas buat kerja, bykla hands on

Want to challenge urself? Inila tmptnya

Probability dicmpak ke district tinggi after complete ho.. but no worries la ye

Follow ur nawaitu~happy choosing hosp

How about extension rate, department mana malignant and whatnot?

Extension rate? Biarlah rahsia..nnt xde org nk dtg klang jk

Disebabkan kesibukan bekerja, kesilapan tu selalu la jugak so high chance jugak lah nk di
extend

If buat kerja elok2, insyaAllah xde pape

Sini hampir semua malignant especially surgical based and paeds

Medical je posting paling chill but extension pon tggi jugak sbb human error pabila workload
trlmpau byk.. jujur ckp medikal sni paling bz so tarik nafas pnjg2 dlu sblom masuk

But smpai bila nk dok dlm comfort zone kan? every hosp ade challenge masing2, x semua
sama. So if nk challenge that make u push to the limit in term of workload n knowledges but
still want to enjoy city life, sini la ye

Hospital miri
General: Small hospital. 2 wards for each discipline. computerised lab system and pharmacy
system. still manual in terms of case notes. all areas are reachable as it only has ground & 1st
floor.

Medical: heaviest workload. 10-14 patients to be reviewed per day. oncalls 24hrs. specialists
and MO's are approachable.
O&G: very strict. not for the weak expecially first posters. probably the highest rate of
extension. HO's can't to caesar like last time. longest oncall. 7am till 12noon next day.

Paeds: very disciplined and strict. it's where they make you a safe and responsible doctors.
only for 3rd posters and above. HO's can't intubate or do advanced procedure. shift system.
PM is basically 7am till 10pm. oncalls is 7am-3pm, break then 9pm till 12noon.

Surgical: fun. a bit intimidating as first poster as patients are quite unstable and oncalls are
also 7am till 12noon. don't think HO's can do appendicectomy anymore. can do a lot of
procedures if you volunteer.

Ortho: chill. but specialists are strict and very particular about knowledge and management. a
few extension here and there usually due to attitude. oncalls 7am-12noon, break then 5pm-
12noon tomorrow.

ED: not as heavy as other hospitals but still as busy as expected. any procedure and
management is expected of you HO's. very teamwork based. the only department with sort of
shift system.

Anaes: very meticulous. also trains you to be a safe doctor. specialists are strict. tagging
period strictly 1 month.
come to Miri. it will be awesome.
depends which department.
Medical: 12noon -12noon (24hours)
O&G: 7am -12noon (28hours)
Paeds: 7am-3pm, break, 9pm-12noon next day.
Surgical: 7am-12noon (28hours)
Ortho: 7am-12noon, break, 5pm-12noon next day
Extension threshold :
OnG>Paeds>Surgical>Ortho>Medical

(HOSHAS) Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah,Temerloh

Overall, i would say it's okay. Computerized system, so less writing. Hahaha... Most MO's
are friendly, as well as the specialists. Work load wise, well, it's the main in Pahang Barat as
well as main center for cluster here, so it's a bit hectic. But not each day will be one, there are
some days when it's a bit relaxing.
Hostel here cost rm400/person. A lot of houses to rent nearby hospital, ranging from rm550-
1200, based on facilities available. Most of us staying outside though

Hospital Segamat
for ho ship i highly recomend. u will learn lots of things. MOs are super friendly. specilists
chill2 smua.. so far ramai kata hoship segamat is heaven compared to other places. ho boleh
buat simple op like rays amputation. c sec. appendicectomy. under supervision of course.
house mmg kene cari. cuz they dont have quarters for ho. system is manual. not
computerized. which i find is better. cuz u learn as u write..
how about working hours? n oncall/shift system?
shift system. working hours mcm other hospitals i guess. tp patients xramai mcm big
hospitals. so u have time to learn
only in medical dept is compulsory wearing whitecoat, others not. Hahaha. If u committed, u
will get chance to do any simple op or procedure under supervision
rental house kt segamat price range brpe ye?
it s depend. Usually rm250 - 650 per house. Kalau rumah banglo gedabak rm800 pun ada
hahaha. So bole kautim 3-4 org
segamat is a district hospital with speciality but we dont have post in psy for final poster in
view of limited no of psy patients
Hostel not available but house 😓 rent in segamat quite cheap ~ 500

Here we dont have lots of ho, so u can do a lot of procedure especially in surgical and ortho.
Chest tube, nail repair, fast scan, tapping, intubation adult n 😓😓 dan bnyk lagi.

Specialist here also very helpful n much more close to us bcoz we dont mny ho.

Here we use shift system.

Our hosp hve claris system, all patient result u can trace by comp.

Am shift 7am till 7 pm, night shift 7pm till 11am.

But in medical and ong if u are in pm shift u need to follow round during am n go back ~ 12
in medical n 3pm in ong.

Tagging 2 weeks, 7am till 10pm

Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan

I just finished housemanship in HTAA.

HTAA system is fully manual, not computerised. Some wards has computer to trace blood
result.
I think, all departments are tolerable, except paeds is a bit intense..but we survived paeds
anyhow..Good mental training for those u are interested in paeds.
Basically, medical has 4 wards, surgical 2 wards, ortho 2 wards, O&G has antenatal,
postnatal, gynae ward, low risk & high risk labour room.
Paeds will be divided into 2, general & neonate unit. In 6th posting, u can choose either ED,
anaesth or psychiatric.
There are lots of subspecialties in HTAa.

For single, u can apply for hostel. If u guys come in big batch, the rooms will be slightly
limited.
But there are a lot of houses or room for rent nearby hospital, withinn walking distance. It
will be slightly expensive if it nearer to hospital.. Traffic in kuantan is not too bad, except
during festive season & peak hour, but not like KL's traffic jam.

Parking is slightly limited..if u come early, u can get good parking space.
Easy to get food in kuantan except during oncall. But u can order for food delivery..

So, please consider & join HTAA as your place for housemanship

Hospital Melaka(MGH)

1st, i dont think i am a right person to comment. I did my clinical years over there. Got a lot
of info from the HOs.

MGH had a lot of patient. But also had a lot of HO. So it manageable. They used old school
system except for lab report (now can access through computer).

Surgery & OnG a bit difficult. Most of them said, just do your job, asked senior if needed.
Then you will survive.

Medical, no off day. Their off day only post call. Next day need to come in again.

Thats all i can comment. Hope ,its helpful.

P/s. Melaka jem weeyhh. Haha off day during weekdays is the best! If on weekend. Better
stay home

Melaka Hospital review.

Its a good place to train as we encounter a lot of case from all over Melaka. No subspecialty
in Melaka so need to refer to a lot case to hkl serdang seremban etc.

Working environment. All departments are manageable. All department have an offday.
Except medical which u have postcall day that consider as your offday. Easy to apply leave
as long as you apply early

A lot of case u can learn, a lot of procedure and hands on if u are confident enough.

Pt ramai and admission everyday is crazy however manageable.

In each and every department have malignant mo and specialist, however they wont mess
with you unless you create trouble and have attitude problem.

Working hours. Most of the department follow shift system here. Oncall once a week, (or
twice a week if have ho shortage)
We got hostel here, inside hospital compound and outside. Best to have your own transport
(car/motorcycle). A lot of rent house around hospital, ranging around rm600-1200 per house.

Overall, life as ho is very tiring here but it is not impossible. Just dont be lazy, dont MIA, if
you are working with all the responsible colleague, all the job can be settle early

Hospital kulim
Psl kulim
Cuti: mcm biasa 24 hari + dpt public holiday in form of replacement. Kira kita keje hari
public tu then akan boleh request utk cuti hari lain.

Sistem:
-Shift system, working hours cant be less than 75/week
-Tagging 1 week except in paeds- 2 weeks. 6.30-10 am
- Not computerized. Nak trace pon kene pergi wad lain. N kene beratur kalo ramai org tgh
trace.

Kebajikan ho
- So far admin n pengarah sgt supportive.
-very hard to be extended for stupid reason.
-Pengarah n admin willing to hear our concern, akan tlg settelkan masalah kita
- So kalo rs ada prob blh diskas ngan timbalan pengarah or admin.

Environment
- Colleague dependa. Mcm kita yg skrg sgt supportive. Ikut rezeki masing2
- Nurse, mo, specialist depends. But jrg dgr yg malignant. Kene marah tu lumrah. But diorg
ada reason knp marah dsb. Kn terima ngan positif

Experience
Kes yg masuk are yg common2. Agak good utk belajar manage betol2 sbb ho tak ramai.
Disadvantage bila shortage akan rs sgt penat sbb tak ckp org nak cover wad. Penah satu kali
ni specialist yg buat discharge summary\
Yg shift system tu guna sistem ABC apa nth kan?

A: Yup
A- 6.30-5
B- 6.30-10
C-6.30-5 then masuk balik 9 or 10- 12 or 1 pm esoknya. Dpenda on dept.

Q: Procedure okay la? Boleh buat byk?

A: okay. Kulim tak ramai ho so mmg sume procedure kitrg kn buat. Yg simple2. Even
intubate pon dr bg try.

Q: Hosp ada hostel x? Kwsn perumahan yg nearest brpa min dari hosp?

A: Ada. Tp tak best sbb mcm dorm. Bukan bilik. Nearest dlm 3-4 minit. Sgt convenient
Selalu satu wad plg ramai-25 -30ho, plg sikit 10 org mcm tu
Procedures in kulim not much compare to other hospitals esp general hospital.. only simple2
procedures..
Abd tapping/pleural tapping, u just see it once in a while. So agak berebut even utk dpt tgk..
byk jgk lg procedure lain yg jarang dpt buat or xsemua HO berkesempatan buat.
Kulim numbers of HO usually x sama for each dept. Some dept HO agak ramai, but some
dept HO sikit.. even less than 10 hO pon pernah. Depend on your luck.
Kulim best. Belajar banyak. Jarang marah2. Procedure semua, segan tanya tak dapat la. Biasa
bagi je. Chest tube pun boleh buat. Tiada procedure yang HO tak boleh cuba buat. Intubate
semua boleh kecuali maternal case. Specialist bagus. Humble and humbling.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu

U will b trained in 3 hosp:
Qe1
Qe2
Hwkks

Which is in 3 different place.

Therefore, having a car is a must but the uber network is very good if u wanna take uber
instead.

Good living environment with fresh air, frsh food and sea and mountains.

Working environment is quite tough but it builds your character. Makes you into a good mo
later on but of course this also depends on yourself.

Toughest dept with high ext rate is paeds and obgyn but ull have fun eventhough suffer a bit.
Bitter sweet of housemanship.

Get to do lots of hands on procedures esp if u r opportunistic on finding them.

I think something cool, get to c decompression sickness as diving is a major activity in sabah.
Apart from that, gets to c a lot of textbook cases as pt presents late, so they d got all d
complications of diseases.

Tertiary hosp, so lots of subspecialty cases will get to see.

Got forensic rotation also with postmortem procedure involvement.

Bottom line, gets to learn a lot.

No hostels. Need to live in rental hse/aprtment. Rm800-2000 per house per month.

There are 3 hosp in KK basically when you go through housemanship.

QE1 and 2: mixture of medical, surgery, ortho depending on which wards. ETD in QE
Likas: Paeds and O&G

When I was in medical a year ago, it was totally different system, so yeah just refer to the
above

Ortho: its alright. Just ward work, assist bosses in OT, then exams. Extension is rare unless
you made any unforgivable mistakes

Likas: Paeds and O&G (the killer)

Paeds:
It's an OCD department (you can understand that since we're dealing with neonates and paeds
life, they're kinda fragile). So bosses are a lil more particular on the plans that were carrying
out.
But then they're approachable, willing to teach and it'll be alright once you have gained their
trust.
Working hours: shift system. Either AM or night shift. Unless there's shortage of HOs, they
may resort to oncall system
Procedures-wise: strictly gotta perform 3 intubations, 3 lumbar punctures, and 1 UVC and
observe various others procedures. Failure to do so will result in extension.
Exam: written and case-based discussion (CbD) with specialist

O&G
I felt this is the most tiring posting I've ever been through. Sabah's delivery rate is damn high.
But seeing more patients will allow you to learn more as a HO. Bosses here are nice, willing
to teach although they're a lil strict if you're new.
Working hours: shift system of AM and night. Postnight may need to stay till afternoon to
help out with ward work. If shortage of HOs, may revert to modified oncall system.
Procedure: assist 30 caesars, perform 1 vacuum and 1 ERPOC (D&C). Number of patients
maybe a lot. But it's tough luck at times being at the right place and right time to get the
opportunity to perform the procedures above. And HOs do fight among ourselves for
procedures (it can get ugly). Failure to perform the procedures will result in extension
Exam: written theory, 2 CbD with specialist

The killer is the procedure part in Likas. Once you have completed Likas, you have gone thru
the worst.

Anaesth
I chose anaesth over ED. There's option of psy and klinik kesihatan as well. Just completed it.
My most fav posting of all. Bosses are nice and plenty of learning opportunities.

Surgery: I hasn't gone through it yet. It's my final posting hehehe

Tagging: mostly average 2 weeks of tagging. If fail, extend je.

Practically, come to work at 6am, complete reviews before MO arrive. Your shift finished
around 6 or 7pm depending on which postings or whether have your work completed

It's a tertiary hosp. Other district hospital and clinics will refer here for more complicated
cases.
Reviews: handwritten, not computerized. Investigation results in QE1 and likas can be traced
via online system

Usually, HOs are entitled to 1 off day and I postnight day per week. However if there's severe
lacking of HO in that dept, that privilege maybe be taken away, tho could be temporary.

I'm from semenanjung and chose to come over to KK to get out from my comfort zone and
gain diff experience. I've no regrets coming here for HOship. Tho it takes some adapting,
people here are nice and interesting.

Social life? Pandai2 je cari sendiri here. A lot of nature for u to explore here.

Hope this helps. Cheers.

PPUM
Last heard was PPUM not accepting anymore HO; however, for a brief introduction of UM

1) Working hours : Monday to Friday from 6am to 5pm. It's quite flexible, as long as you can
complete your reviews and take the bloods by the time morning rounds start, you can come in
anytime. On weekends it's half day : till 12pm. Downside : work seven days a week.
However you get random offs now and then, depending on your team. On calls are usually 24
hours, starts from 6am the same day, usually get to leave around 6am the next day.

2) Posting wise, there are alot of sub specialty here, and receiving referals from all over KL /
PJ/ Outstation. Most of our MO are students, they have their own teachings, classes and
besides that they have to do rounds as well. The specialists here are really nice, they will
entertain all your questions. MO here are nice as well, a very good working environment.

3) Extension rate is high in ONG ( as always), other postings are okay. We have end of
posting VIVA, that's all. Sometimes viva dont even take place, they will just pass you. Log
books are all online. Usually complete it the last week itself .

4) system is all electronic. you have 20 laptops per ward, and everything from writing notes,
tracing bloods to x rays are all online. Working enviroment conducive, all air conditioned.

5) We have teachings by MO/Specialist and ongoing CME,something like lectures, which i

feel is very important as we dont have much time to study, so these are good in helping to
refresh the medical student memories.

6) In tems of opportunities to do procedures, some said thatbecause UM is filled with Master

students, there will be less chances in doint actual procedures. I personally feel it's all up to
your own initiative, as long as you show interest, and willing to learn, everyone here is
willing to help
Adding up on the procedures part : actually you will have the opportunities to do procedures
here if you show some interest, proactive. In OT, MO will let us cut under supervision once
you've seen how they do it. So it's up to you what you wanna do-sit back and relax or roll up
your sleeves and let your hands do the job. Jonah is good here
Hospital kangar
Extension rate in hosp kangar is low. The only reason for extension here is attitude problem.

Each dept MESTI akan ada someone yg super garang, but trust me semua ok ja in kangar.
Semua department ok just in paeds n o&g kena extra careful sbb medicolegal bnyk in these 2
departments.

Each dept period of tagging lain2, ada yg kena complete tagging sheet ada yg compulsary 2
weeks, ada yg offtag by assessment dgn mentor.

Patient kt sini xramai, and i think ni bagus sbb kita boleh belajar proper management from a
to z. Bab nk try buat procedure pulak kita sendiri kena proactive, kena volunteer nk buat any
kind of procedure.

If u are joining hosp kangar kindly pm ni your phone number so that i can add u in our hosp
whatsapp group. Tq
And kangar is not a computerized hosp, manual ajooo tulis tangan
So far Hosp Kangar has the lowest extension rate due to poor knowledge or skills, most of the
reason for extension is due to HO's attitude.
All the staffs, including ur superiors are cool and sempoi ja. Biasa la kalau ad dua tiga yg
garang and malignant, but trust me if u can really understand how their working styles and
they do's n donts, surely u will get along well with them and be their best HO.

Second tips is that try to be good and nice to all your collegues including staff nurses and
PPKs cause most of the time u will need their help and advices cause their experiences are
waayyy more better than us, so berkawanlah dengan diaorg n in sha Allah your HO life will
not be stressful as u expect to be..

Tagging smua tu Dr farhana dh clear kan. Patients kt sni smua mostly ok2 aja, seasonal gak.
Procedures smua depends on department gak, ad yg bg smua Ho buat, ad yg kna supervised
tp klau ur MO dh trust u they will just let u do it by ur own ja.

Klau ad apa2 lg soalan nnt bley tnya kami anytime in the future.

Goodluck in your postings

Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah

HsnZ :
Computerized system, everything can be traced by comp. admission hx, lab results,
radiological results.. No problem

In terms of dept,
O&g- some ppl would say o&g is the killer dept, but depends on the person, tagging period
was the hardest and tiring, once u enter this dept, no matter as a junior or senior poster, u
would feel lost and helpless initially as most of the procedures and ot are very specific to
o&g, but once u're in charged, it is fun and enjoyable.. Tagging at most 3 weeks, with one
day off, started as early as 7 am to 12 mn.. Pm shift can be twice or triple per week with post
night off and off

Paeds ;
This is the killer dept I would say, really hard but once u get through it then u're fine, one of
the highest extension rate, but make sure that u do ur job properly, proper documentation as
well since it involves medicolegal stuffs as well.. And u need to pass ur nrp to off tag, so..
Yeah.. Hmmm

Surgical:
Other than tds rounds, and dozens of new cases, I have no other complaints.. Some mos are
okay, some just incompatible with you but all in all they're nice

Ortho:
Hmmm, very strict in terms of logbook completion, long case short case and dops, but all the
mos are super nice, high extension rate because of the logbook, 2 months for logbook and 1
month for failed viva..

As for medical and Ed, I have yet to enter.. Hehehe

Hospital Ipoh
Baru nak habis first posting surgical lol.

Basically surgical sini tagging 2 weeks, really have to complete tagging logbook and do
offtag assessment esp for first posters.

2 general wards: male, female, one first class, one hdu. Peripheries include neurosurgical,
plastic, paeds surgical.

Workload wise, more in male ward, female depends. Bosses will be nice if you know your
cases well and takde attitude prob.

A lot of procedure can be done by ho if you are willing to learn, MOs are ready to teach if
you are keen.

Oncall people will go to clinic, allowed to rest once clinic is over, and come back at 6 and
continue with night calls. Usually 1-2 oncall per week depending on number of ho at one
time.

Surgical here does a lot of referral to selayang/hkl. But we do see some interesting cases.

Medical:
What i heard, about 60 pt in ward, oncall would be alone, and usually eod calls. Tagging for 2
weeks.

Obgyn
First posters tag for 1 month. Oncall depends on where you are posted either
gynae/obs/labour suite.
Basically o&g u hv to tag for a month. Tagging for a month is seriously tiring but after u
offtag life is so much easier. I seriously love o&g department here the mos, specialists are all
nice. Only one or two are a bit malignant but overall most of em are super cool.

O&g here has low extension rate so dont worry they rarely extend housemen.

The dept use oncall system. If normal u hv to be at work from 7am-5pm & on weekends only
half day so till 1pm. Not like other depts in ipoh.
It's an old hostel walking distance to the hosp, got somekind of living area with study table, 2
single bed, a spacious bathroom. Availability tu i think depends, but usually is available, last
time i heard you can stay for two years if you want. Siap 1 room per person lg. most of the
hos prefer staying outside bcs the condition of the hostel is really old

Sini oncall still okay, most dept working hours 7-5/6 for normal, if oncall
Surgery 7am to 10 am next day
Ong 7am to 7am next day
Paeds 7am to 12am next day
Ortho 12h shift system
Medical 7am to 7am next day

Ipoh is partially computerised? We have computers to trace ix, do discharges, trace blood
from blood bank, trace old discharges. No need to run here and there to trace, unless urgent.
But we still do reviews inside bht.

Usually each dept will give one day off even during tagging period, subject to ho avalability.

High extension rate:

Ortho. Idk why but now mostly 6th poster will have ortho as their final posting. The more
senior you are, the higher the chances of being extended.

Paeds is very strict, but if you play by their rules, the probability of getting extended will be
less.

Other posting should be okay unless you have attitude prob, mia.

Assessment wise, surgical will have written and viva, paeds 4 assessment, obgyn 5
assessment.

P/s
- no aircond
- old style hospital
- hr quite efficient, within one month masuk gaji

Hospital Selayang
Selayang computerize hospital. Can be plus point sbb if nk trace anything old notes xrays ct
senang je. Tp mula2 mmg akan rasa susah skit sbb nk kena adapt with both the computerize
system and also ho. But by time everything will be okay.

Dari mggu orientasi dh boleh tahu first posting smpi 6th posting. If nak pilih
ed/anest/psychiatry pn boleh inform awal2 lg. Kadang2 ho boleh jd cukup dkt satu dept tu so
senang kalau nk apply leave but sometime boleh jd shortage of ho jugak.

Extension rate tu tak berapa tggi jugak rasanya. Kalau nk cakap yg plg senang kena extend
maybe medical but of course it depends jugak.

But alhamdulillah, so far so good

what about working hours/leaves/offdays/housing area or price(whether 1st poster akan dpt
hostel) dgn assessment?
tak sure ttg accomodation around hospsince i live nearby at parents house je tp not that hard
kot sbb ramai kawan2 duduk dkt apartment nearby.

Tp kalau hostel dia utamakan those who live far. Boleh apply masa mgu orientation or before
that if u r from sabah srwak or pantai timur or mana2 yg jauh n kena pndah awal. Tp hostel
agak limit jugak.
Working hours at selayang is shift system tak pki oncall system. So better skit. Just mind the
double night jelah, means night hari isnin and selasa jd agak penat. Tp applicable only dekt
dept yg tak ckup ho je.

Leave tu each dept ada 8-9 days, so far leave tak susah nk apply if ho ckup. Apply n dpt lah
leave sbyk mana nk ambil.

Off days once a week in all dept.

Assessment viva like usual in each dept but medical maybe the toughest one. Otherwise lain
okay since consultants are super nice.

what about CME/tutorial/teaching? how often do we have it?

Quite often. Hosp cme every wednesday. Dept ho teaching once a week. Then maybe other
extra teaching that need to be attended.
Selayang hospital is a teaching hospital and a great place to start functioning as a doctor.
Computerized. You'll be doing hands on procedures in all departments. Patients are many so,
there is always lack of HOs which gives you an opportunity to be busy and learn as much as
you can. At times have to compete with junior MOs to do procedures as priorities may be
given to them. In Selayang you can't go MIA because they are pretty strict and they do keep
you on your toes as the admin of every department do a monthly check on HOs. MOs and
specialists are always asking questions and teaching the HOs. Hostels are provided and
affordable.

Hospital kluang
New hospital, Hand written drpd review to borang
Ho per dept ranging from 1 to 6 persons
Per houseman can take care around 10-22 pt, in medical boleh sampai 50+ patient alone
Perks : you learn a lot, you do a lot sebab you jaga lots of pt alone
MO/Specialist/ Stuff nurse is generally nice basically you will recognize most of your peers
cuz it’s a small circle
Solo oncall at night for every dept
Setakat ni cuti only twice cuti rehat per month and you kena bergilir sebab ho x ramai

HDOK (Hospital Duchess of Kent, Sandakan)

In summary
- no labcoats, no neckties
- NOT computerized (marathon to the lab every day to trace results, can find time to take
naps or gossip there also)
- no hostel (if you don’t count hospital corridors, but you’ll have to fight with patients’
relatives)
- Currently severely lacking of HOs, lots are leaving and none coming in (12 to 14 hos only
per department wtf)
- traffic to hospital is bearable, just don’t live too far
- office hour (6am to 5pm in other department and 5am to 7pm in peads) and oncall (4pm to
12 pm the next day) system
- off day: once a week. This will be decided by your HO leader. You can bodek2 your leader
if you want to off on a specific day, like offday on Monday for example because you are too
lazy to go to clinic

High extension rate: OnG and peads (shocker)

- OnG likes to extend first posters (and most first posters will go through OnG first). Avoid
dramas with MOs at all cost.
- Peads is the most hectic department, but the MOs and specialists are hardworking. High
extension rate no matter what poster you are, because of high expectations. Some even
transferred hospital. The famous saying is “if you can survive peads you’ll survive anywhere”

Ortho: most relaxed department. MOs baik and boleh buat kawan. Workload is not that
heavy. Male ward usually a bit hectic, but female ward sometimes ada 2,3 patient je. Jarang
extend houseman, maybe once in 50 years

Surgical: not gonna comment much. (maybe because I haven’t pass this posting yet so not
gonna talk bad about anything please understand my situation I do not trust facebook)

Medical: most people find this posting most enjoyable. I did too. MOs and specialist are
helpful. You’ll learn a lot and get to do procedures if you’re proactive. Hectic but still
bearable compare to peads

Food: the least of your worries. But be particular about hygiene there’s a lot of weird2 bugs
here

Allowance: rm880 (elaun perumahan wilayah) for non-sabahans. You can use that extra
money to buy flight tickets back to KL every month or you can also travel around Sabah, the
land below the wind.

Entertainment and shopping: there’s a decent new cinema… and that’s it. There is a shopping
mall but do not expect to shop until you drop. Besides Popular and Watson there’s nothing
else there

Housing: should not be a problem, just make sure you have you own transport. If you are
interested to do housemanship here come at least 2 weeks early to find a good house. Do not
expect to walk to hospital (there’s an apartment with swimming pool and security near
hospital but a bit pricey and currently already fully occupied)

First posters tend to get extended tagging in any posting. Buy a good pair of shoes.

Elective / 6th posting? ETD and Anaesth.

JPL? Need to book at least 6 months early, they don’t accept many houseman. Psychiatry?
Too bad, currently not offered here, but you can always come as a patient.

HUKM
Akk dh habis dh HOship kat hukm. Skrg kat imr, tgh involved in research.
I enjoyed my HOship in hukm. Smpai skrg rindu hehe. Banding dgn kkm hospitals, bed
numbers are fewer, at 28 per ward. Tp HOs are lesser, so that brings the ratio of pt to doctor
sama je dgn kkm hospitals yg ada more beds w concurrently more HOs.

Procedures smua boleh buat don't worry. Asalkan nk blajar, and you show that your MOs can
trust you, they'll give you the chance. Just tnjuk rajin n minat je.

System ok. Akk rsa mana2 pun sama. Cuma sbb pts pay more drp govmnt hospitals,
sometimes financial issue tu lebih lah banding dgn kkm hospitals. Tp xpe. Tu tggal bljr cara
diplomatik je nk jwb. Kita sparuh KPT sparuh KKM. Mahal sket. Msti akk widad lg pndai
jawab hehehe

Each dept msti ada je specialist yg menakutkn sket. Tu wajib kat mna2 hospital hehe. So xde
bezalah kat ctu. Kalau kat hukm extension plg tinggi kat paeds lah kot. Sbb specialists n mo
mmg OCD sket. But don't worry. Smua tmpt pun paeds cmtu hehe. Plg pnting rajin keja n
tnjuk nk bljr, tu je sbnrnya dia nk drp kita.

Management specialist kat hukm mmg osem. Takkan dpt management yg updated w the
facilities to provide it skali, kat hospitals lain. The things that you learn and know is right to
do for the pt is practiced, and bnda tu mmg nmpklah bila kwn2 akk skrg ni kat hosp penang
sabah etc. Kat sana maybe funding and modalities xde so you hve to make do with what you
hve. It's good in a sense that you can do things for ur pt to the best of ur capabilities. Tp
maybe bad sbb kalau kluar nnti u wont hve such things kat regular kkm/district hospitals. But
dont worry. Incompetence is a phase every Ho/MO/specialist goes thru. Kwn2 akk rmai yg
ckp they appreciate sgt hukm management bila dh kluar. Bcos if u want to learn sth, its best
to learn it the right way firsthand. It helps that most MOs kat cn tgh buat master prgrm, so
theyre osem sgt bab2 latest guidelines and teaching. If kamcing dgn diorg, boleh bljr bnyk sgt
i

A word of caution widad, akk mmg syg hukm hehe. So this review might be biased tau
hehehe. If u hve any questions lg let me know. Nk jmpa pun boleh, akk kat IMR je, kat jln
pahang.

jimat duit. Lols. Jalan agak sesak sometime.

House rent - depend on ur luck. My friend - rm500 fully furnished.

Mine - RM 600 empty.
Easy to get house here. The nearer to the hospital the more expensive and depend on the size.
If you pandai tawar harga, boleh murah.

Hospital Seberang Jaya, Penang

A good hospital with plenty of hands on skills but the extension rate remains high especially
in Paediatrics and A&E.
Hostel is available here and its within the hospital compound. Otherwise, food is not an issue
here.
HSJ okay ! Medical was super fun with hands on .. and palpitation night oncall in ward male
ward .. usually fragile and easily desaturated .bp drop..spo2 drop..female ward rarely hard
emergency case...male ward is super fragile .. Medical MO is the best ..
Cuba bg review semmpu yg mungkin ye. Lain org lain experience so mungkin berbeza dgn
org lain
Yg penting korng kena faham hosp seberang jaya hospital nucleus, meaning we also
somehow incharge of hospital bukit mertajam, kepala batas n sungai bakap. All emergency
cases from that hosp go straight to us. Kat sini suma sistem manual.
Kt sini all usual posting ada surgical ,medical, Ong and pead, ortho. Yg Stu lg posting pilih
either anaesth , emergency or primary care medicine
For surgical : posting yg mana most boss sempoi2, n paling less extension rate. It just the
work load bnyak Gila, here surgical is the second busiest surgical department in the whole
Malaysia. Hosp kecil tp pt ramai Gila. Clinic pula mostly setiap hr ada. Surgical here also
incharge of ot in hosp bm and sungai bakap. Because of that sometimes only tinggal 2-3
housemn to incharge whole wrd. But you can learn bnyak sngat kat sini. Sini ot emergency
sngat bnyak, major ot cases tu berpeluh dlm swminggu. Juz jgn buat Hal. Sini oncall 30h and
sometimes up to 36 hour
Medical : sama kot mcm hosp lain. The most busiest department kt hosp, x pernah cukup
katil. Pt smpai need to be in Ed observation for several days b4 boleh Masuk wad. Procedure
x yah berebut memang bnyak bleh either nk or x nak je. Sini pakai shift system.
Ong : sini pkai sistem shift, sini Susah sikit nak belajar sbb everything Mo based. Mostly Mo
buat suma benda. Ho nk endorse simple2 medication pun kena rujuk Mo. Bcoz of
medicolegal sbb tu diorg strict sngat. But it depend on you, klu rajin n active n rapat dgn boss
bnyak je bleh blaja .
Ortho : they said the most malignant posting in this hosp (x sure x msuk lg) , same as surgical
cases bnyak sngat workload esp ot cases sbb trauma cases bnyak kt sini. Well tepi highway.
Most boss okay but they said ada a few yg malignant. If ur first posting is ortho here than
prepare urself mentally n physically , don't be stress, sbb ada yg x dpt tahan n dropout.
Yg pead, ed, anaesth n primary care x dpt comment sbb x tau sngat sorry.
Lastly, it depend on you , pegi mana2 hosp pun sama je. Nawaitu kena Betul , Insyaallah xde
masalah.
Selamat pilih hosp korang

Brminat nak masuk HSJ ke? Nk crita pun xthu nk start cmana. HSJ is an old hospital..
everything is manual. So no need to rebut laptop pagi2 for reviews

Its a small hospital but referal centre too.. and a good learning ground actually..

Each dept ofkoa ada cara snd dia hndle. U learn when ur in the dept. Dr segi MO atau
specialist yg garang.. kt HSJ xde sgt.

Org kata extension rate quite high here. Yes but if u do ur job..adequate knowledge and
experience..xbuat mslh..good attitude.. u can pass each posting smoothly.
I got extended 1 mo masa first posting just because i didnt get the chance to observe
colposcopy! Silly but sometime u can get extended bcause of logbook only. No worries la..
dont put a very bad perspective on extension.. just aim to not be! It may look bad on ur paper
but on the bright side u get to gain a bit more experience n knowledge

Hospital Kemaman
In general, not computerized.. Using shift system... But u can some blood results by the
computer..of course less num of patients. In surgery & ortho.. Upmost 22-25 for ONE whole
hospital... No accomodation provided for HO.. only one to two weeks during first posting to
let you find your suitable house.. Still, its quite abundance... But the living cost would be
quite high for a small town like kemaman.

Medical dept. : most hos find this posting enjoyable & interesting.. All MOs & specialist are
really helpful... Lots of chances to do procedures. We git 1 gen ward for male & 1 female.

Working hours : normal : 7- 5 pm

AM : 7 - 10 am
Pm : 9 pm - 12 noon

2. Surgery : the scariest place of all posting.. Though you only got like 3 pts, but the
workload is x10 for each pt.. Everything is STAT until proven otherwise.. Got three major
works division : ward, OT, clinic sometimes 5 : scope & chemotherapy.. But still you can still
learn if you can handle the stress.( many dropped out this postings.. Sadly) First impression
matters... Not really much extension rate as the HOD would some sort like passing all the HO
s there
Working hours : same like med except pm : 4 pm to 12 noon

3. ORTHO.. ni paling chill, u just need to pass the tagging period and u will survive ortho....
oh yes, remember to send your logbook, skt, lpnt on time... Procedures pun byk...

Working time : differnt was pm : 9 pm - 2 pm next day

4. OnG : The speacialists & mo s are really helpful & like to teach.. All MO s are woman..
Onlybthe HOD is a man... So yes. , their moods were quite labile.. Divided to : clinic, ward ,
ot & screening room

W.hours...same except pm, 9 pm to 12 noon n u might need to do pm shift in a row for 2-3
days... If you have cme on the day of your post call then youll be super tired the next day

Hosp Sultanah Bahiyah

Extension rate? Kalau bengap sgt, malas nk belajar. Kuat ngelat. Perangai mcm apa.
InsyaAllah, xlama lg kena la extent. Tp kalau jurus. Kerja elok2, ikhlas. Semangat nk belajar.
Allah pasti mudahkan. Xda org nk simpan HO dekat department dia.

Computerized? Of course. Tp limited. Kena belajar type laju2. Supaya kerja cepat, x ganggu
org lain nk pakai pulak.

Malignant deparment? Enjoy ja all the department. Jgn terlalu menonjol. Stay low profile n
gain knowledge. Steady jgn terlalu menimbulkan hal2 yg sensasi. Bersikap sederhana. Yg
penting survive.

Procedure? Byk org malas nk buat procedure dan byk jgk membe2 yg pergunakan ko utk
mudahkan kerja dorang. Apa2 pun, jgn kedekut. Buat kerja sama2. Tlg satu sama lain. Any
procedure bleh buat, kalau ko tunggu kesungguhan nk buat dkt MO. Tp kalau ko pon malas.
MO tu pon xda la nk bg ko buat. Baik dia buat, lg cepat.

Asrama? Utk org jauh sahaja.

I bet every hospital sama ja kot. Bertabahlah. Dunia medic x seindah yg dibayangkan. Penuh
dgn tangungjawab dan dedikasi.

Jgn penting jaga perangai

Working system mcm mana?
Xtentu. Ikut bilangan HO dlm satu department. worst things, oncall system. 32H (but rare la.
HO kn "dah ramai". Haha)

Kalau HO byk, bleh la devided. Tp semua department working hours xlebih dr 78H per week.
Ada yg kurang skit. Ada yg betul2 78H.

Boleh jd, kerja night shift masuj 7am-3pm (sbb kena cover clinic) then masuk 5pm smpai
next 3pm (post call cover clinic lg).
Susah nk explained. Hadapi sendiri. Baru terasa

Prepare the worst. Kalau dipermudahkan, Alhamdulillah

Hospital Kuala Krai (HKK)

Do come to Hospital Kuala Krai (HKK) Kelantan. We are severely lacking of HOs. Medical
department only have 2 HOs at this moment and they are doing EOD oncall. While in other
departments, there are about 5 - 10 HOs each. Total HOs in this hospital ~55 HOs only

Basically HKK is
1) hospital pakar major
2) not computerised, everything is manual

3) oncall + shift system

- Office hour ( 7am - 5pm) - medical, peads, ortho, surgery
- Oncall (7am - 7am) but you need to stay for morning round and passover the new cases to
your colleagues. Sometime can be up to 10-11am, depends. Except for peads posting, you are
allowed to go back at 1.00pm during your postcall day.
- shift (AM 7am - 7pm/ PM 7pm - 7am).. only in O&G posting. O&G use both oncall and
shift system.
- all postings use oncall system except for anesth and ED posting (shift system)

4) CME HO hospital - almost every week (compulsory to all HOs)

CME departments :
- peads 3x/week
- O&G 2x/week
- other departments : once a week

5) you'll learn how to present and refer cases outside. Mostly to HRPZII & HUSM.

6) there are lots of opportunities to do procedures here..We even have the barbaric Stab
Peritoneal Dialysis (both for emergency & elective PD). others like peritoneal tapping,
pleural tapping, UAC/UVC insertion, central line insertion (femoral, IJC) , spinal anesthesia,
intubation & etc. Don't worry, you'll be supervised by your MOs. Mostly, all procedures are
being carried out by HOs except for certain cases like in high risk cases

7) malignant department..
PEADS!! - minimum TDS round haha.. High extension rate no matter what poster you are
because of high expectations. Need to pass 1 long case & 2 short cases before can proceed to
viva (which consists of 3 main questions). Need to pass all 3.You'll be extend until proven
otherwise..
Tips : avoid drama and this will help you to survive this posting.

8) very nice and supportive MOs & specialist

9) HOs can also follow Visiting Specialist to district hospitals ( Hosp Machang & Hosp Gua
Musang)
Come and join us

Hospital sg buloh
~tertiary hosp.. meaning hosp yg de byk speciality including sub.
~Computerised hosp.. which is easier for us.. but, be careful ok.. sbb ho is a doctor.. not a
clerk.. so, dont copy n paste..
~Shift system ..except in anaes je oncall system..KK pun..
~Hosp sg buloh, the facilities, system, equipm, ok la ..tip top jg.. sbb hosp baru..
~ hosp yg ID, trauma, spine, gastro center

ho..Kena pakai labcoats.. always.. to diff between ho n mo..Proper attire.. n shoes.. u all mesti
tau kn.. formal.. no round neck, no sandal, etc..

De kuarters.. - so can apply..esp for those yg rumah jauh.. tp new kuarters ni quite far.. better
de kenderaan sndiri.. klau naik kete dlm 5-8min kot.. klau nk jln kaki bole, tp hati2 dgn
anjing.. haha..kuarters ada utk single n married..cantik n selesa.. dkt dgn masjid..utk 1st
poster snng dpt..tp kalau xdpt kuarters pn, jgn risau..byk apartment utk disewa..sblh hosp je

worry.. or bole g TSB, the store yg nearby.. btw, dkt highway latar..so senang

Ok, .. so, as usual ho de 6posting..

5wajib: medical, ortho, surgery, paed, ong
1pilihan: anaes/ ED/ klinik kesihatan

High extension rate in ortho department..

Tagging-
as usual.. 7am-10pm..
~usually 2weeks in 1st poster (but can be more than a month in ortho )
~ next2 poster 1week tagging

Assessment
~ bgantung pd posting..berbeza2..
Fill up logbook.. de viva ..etc

Killer posting.. of cos ortho.. haha

Best n happening posting = ong n ED..

Tp for overall, hosp sg buloh is one of the best place for training ho.. best je.. hehe

But then, get ready to be transfer out during MO ok

Mmmm nak ckp extension rate Susah sikit la nak comment. People said here one of the
highest extension rate in Malaysia . But bnyak je senior sy tngok yg pass without extension.
Senang ckp mcm Ni la hosp Ni memang tough. sikit but when you become Mo org tau u bleh
buat keja.
Hosp putrajaya
Im first poster of surgical now. Baru sebulan.. so xdpt nk komen pjg2. Haha. Fully
computerized. First few month mmg struggle.. esp time tagging. Time tu la nk blaja sistem,
time tu la nk igt balik ilmu2 yg kita blaja kat u dulu, time tu la nk kenal surrounding- sp, mo,
colleague,sn,. Dll. Sistem masih pakai oncall, tapi 24 ++ hours. Lepas tu post call. Besenye
seminggu akan dpt 1 hari off. Depends on bil ho. Dgr cerita intake seterusnye nk amek lebih
ramai. Sori sbb baru sebln, so xsure posting lain,tp dgr2 cerita ong la diorg suke extendkan.
Btw. Ni sp surgical sy bgtau, skrg sistem kontrak xpakai viva dah assessment setiap
department. Akan pakai mcq yg diselaraskan di seluruh negara, dan bbrp perkara lain yg saya
x sure jg. Sbb saya pun second batch kontrak.. so tunggu la yg first batch nnt cerita mcm mne

Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom kluang

- non-computerized
-Specialist are 99% kind and benign thats what makes it stress free. Atleast 2 specialist per
department.

-Just dont do something irresponsible and u wont get extended. Other than that medical do
extend 2 months if fail viva.

-new hospital, everything is nice and new. the best part is the apartment 5 bedrooms for rm
350 i give them 5 stars.
Here is the preview: https://instagram.com/p/BJ4Hc0vBpUq/

Small hospital, like family everyone knows you, referral interdepartmental can be easy.
Again small hospital if u gone MIA did something stupid everyone will know 😓

But Our intake is limited, once or twice per year. so HO memang sikit dan kekurangan.
workload can be a lot but ull get chance to do procedures

Due to critically low number of HOs our flexi shift system mostly has migrated from TDS to
BD shift for now.

No of patients depends on dept. We are 28 bedded generally.

Medical has 3 wards. Male ward can be up to 60 at most.
Other wards are operational in 30 -40 pts at a time i think.
