SYNOPSIS
A milling machine is a tool used for machining solid materials (including wood, acrylic,
aluminium, steel, etc). A conventional milling machine move the work piece radially against the
rotating milling cutter, which cuts on its sides as well as on its tip. Work piece and cutter
movement are precisely controlled to less than 0.001 in (0.025 mm), usually by means of
precision ground slides and lead screws or analogous technology. Milling machines may be
manually operated, mechanically automated, or digitally automated via Computer Numerical
Control (CNC).
Actually the term CNC originated from its parent NC. NC (Numerical Control) refers
to the automation of machine tools that are operated by abstractly programmed commands
encoded on a storage medium instead of manually controlled via hand wheels or levers, or
mechanically automated via cams alone. Later, the NC machines used motors that moved the
controls to follow points fed into the system on punched tape. These early servomechanisms
were rapidly augmented with analog and digital computers, creating the modern Computer
Numerical Control (CNC) machine tools that have revolutionized the machining processes.
The CNC Milling Machine or sometimes referred to as machining center is a highly
accurate form of milling. It allows the part to be engineered to a high level of complexity such as
engraved elements and relief. The precision achieved is unsurpassed and with little operator
input needed following the set up phase and the production of the test piece it's also cost
effective. A milling machine is an essential tool room machine designed to produce a very
accurate work.
In a CNC system, end-to-end component design is highly automated using Computer
Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programs. The programs
produce a computer file that is interpreted to extract the commands needed to operate a particular
machine via a Postprocessor, and then loaded into the CNC machines for production. Since any
particular component might require the use of a number of different tools, i.e. drills, saws, etc., it
may often combine multiple tools into a single "cell". In other cases, a number of different
machines are used with an external controller and human or robotic operators that move the
component from machine to machine. In either case, the complex series of steps are needed to
produce any part that closely matches the original CAD design.

PROJECT DETAIL
The project is an innovative step in manufacturing a CNC Milling machine. Hence it is a
step to decrease the workers fatigue and increases precision. The machine may be classified
under the category of omniversal milling machine. The CNC milling machine is being equipped
with all the three axis motion in tool hence the work-piece will be placed on the work table and
tool will perform all the operations as of omniversal milling.
Thus the operations which could be performed includes machining slots, grooves,
keyways, spur, helical, bevel gears, twist drills, reamers, taper spiral grooves in reamers,
contouring, milling cutters and all types of milling, drilling and shaping operations.
Machine manufacturing time (including transportation + erection-commissioning + trial
run + technical guidance) will be 25 days.
Money back time will be 30 days, after the collection of satisfactory certificate.

Market Scope of CNC milling machine: As like all the government, private and semi-
government offices of all types has been switched to computers rather than working manually.
