Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an
action verb)

As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:

 Practice overarm/underarm throwing at stationary targets in cricket specific group activities

 Manipulate elements of overarm/underarm throw (force, speed) to hit a stationary target
with accuracy
 Practice fielding skills to dismiss opponents in a modified cricket game

LESSON EVALUATION
Assessment of Lesson Objectives and Suggestions for Improvement::
 Were the students able to practice overarm/underarm throwing at stationary targets?
 Did the students demonstrate manipulation of elements of overarm/underarm throw (force,
speed) to hit a stationary target with accuracy
 Did the students practice fielding skills to dismiss their opponents in am modified cricket
game
Teacher self-reflection and self-evaluation:
 Did the students find the lesson engaging and why? If not, why?
 Did every student participate?
 Were my instructions clear?
 Were the lesson objectives met?
 What can I do differently next time to improve the lesson?
 Which students benefitted most from this lesson?
 Which students did not benefit from this lesson?
LESSON PROGRESSION
Time Motivation and Introduction:
- Collect students from class
1400 - Collect equipment from storeroom on way to oval
- Students in central location on oval
- Introduce new sport (cricket)
- Ask student who has played cricket before to demonstrate movements to be
done In warm up (gather either hand, both hands, catch high, overarm throw)
Student Organisation Lesson Content Class Organisation
(Individual task structure, differentiation) (Content & KTP) Resources/Equipment
FAKE FIELDING (Position of teacher/students, setup/working area/grids for
class, transitions)
KTPs:
 Have 4 students set up a large
square 20m x 20m
 Students are jogging around the  Ensure students are
1405 square performing activity with
 Teacher to call out various fielding vigour
movements  Ensure students are spatially
 Teacher calls Left or Right - aware of other students,
students to pretend to field ball off especially when jumping
floor with left or right hand
 Teacher calls Both - students field
with both hands
 Teacher calls Catch - students to
jump up high and pretend to catch
a high ball
 Teacher calls Throw - students to
pretend to throw ball at stumps

HLTH2203 Jan 2018

 Teacher blows whistle - students
to change direction Equipment
4 x cones

Bridging organization
1410
- Bring students into central location
- Split students into groups of 8 (4 pairs per group) and have one group set up equipment to
demonstrate to class how next activity will look
- Ensure groups are even mix of gender and skill
- Have group that set up also demonstrate the next activity to the class
Fielding Challenge

 Have students pair up KTPs:

 Set up a course of progressively
harder to hit targets Overarm Throw
 One student is fielding, one is  Step towards target
1413
wicket-keeping  Non-throwing hand
 Fielder moves from cone to cone points toward the
trying to hit target by performing target
an overarm throw. Once they hit a  Throw the ball
target, the wicket-keeper passes keeping the elbow
the ball back and they move on to high
the next target Wicket-keeping
 If fielder misses, wicket-keeper  Full or semi-crouch
passes ball back and they try position employed
again  Head position is still
 If fielder misses a target three and directed towards
times, move on to next marker the anticipated point
 1 point per target of release of the ball
 Once fielder has hit all targets,  Open, cupped hands
students move to next course are presented in line
 All 4 courses set up differently with the flight path of
ball

PROGRESSION/EXTENSION
 Underarm/overarm
throw can be utilised
dependent on skill
level
 Distance to target can
be increased or
decreased Equipment
6 x wickets
6 x batting tees
6 x cricket bats
8 x balls

HLTH2203 Jan 2018

Bridging organization
1423
- Bring students in with equipment and ask two students to help you set up
demonstration pitch
- Use group to demonstrate how activity will look once it is active
- Use same groups from last activity
- 2 students from each group to collect equipment once activity has been
deomonstrated
Run Out

 Split into 2 teams, decide which KTPs:

team bats. Overarm Throw
 One of fielding team acts as  Step towards target
wicket-keeper  Non-throwing hand points
1426 toward the target
 On teacher's call: First batter runs
to the other batting line (crease)  Throw the ball keeping the
and back. First fielder runs to the elbow high
stationary ball and throws for the
wicket-keeper to catch and then Gather
stump batter  The ball is approached at
 The batter is `run out' if they do the optimum angle and
not cross the line in time. speed to facilitate early
 One point is awarded to the interception of the ball and
fielding team for every run out maintain momentum
 Replace ball to repeat with next towards the target
member of each team  The ball is gathered cleanly
 Teams change when each  Smooth and efficient
member has had a turn transition from gather to
 The fielding team with the most throw
run outs wins
Progression/Extension
 Distance being ran/thrown
should be altered dependent
on class skill level
 Fielders to throw underarm if
struggling with overarm
(dependent on age/skill)
 Batter hits of batting tee and
fielding team fields ball and
uses relay throwing to get
batter out

Equipment
4 x wickets
12 x markers
4 x bats
4 x balls

Bridging organization
1438
- Bring students in to central location with equipment except for one group
- Instruct other students to set out remaining equipment accordingly
- Once activity explained, have one other group set out other playing area behind
one already set up
- Classroom teacher to monitor other game

Continuous Cricket

 Split into 2 teams, decide which KTPs:

team bats
1440  Batting team line up to the side of
pitch  Step, point, throw
 Fielding team spread out in front  Step, stop, swing
of the stumps, minimum 10m
away for safety. One fielder acts
as wicket-keeper
 Bowler serves ball one bounce
underarm at the stumps. Batter
attempts to hit it
 Bowlers swap every 6 balls
 Whether they hit it or not the
batter has to run
 Batter scores one run each time
they travel round the cone and Equipment
back. More than one run at a time
2 x Wickets
can be scored
 Fielders return the ball every time 10 x Markers
to the bowler who continuously
4 x Bats
serves
 Each batter keeps going until they
are bowled, caught or hit wicket
 Highest team score wins

Lesson Closure: (Review lesson objectives with students)

1455 Lesson objectives to be reviewed with students by way of
- Questioning
- Student demonstrations of skills

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

- Inform students of the skills they will be performing next week (bowling)
- Remind students to bring correct uniform, adequate water and to apply sunscreen for
1500
the next lesson
- Equipment to be put away neatly in storeroom
- Dismiss students

HLTH2203 Jan 2018

Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be judged?)
Five students will be selected at random each week to be assessed throughout the
lesson on each skill. The chosen skills for this lesson are whether the students;
- Practiced overarm/underarm throwing at stationary targets in cricket specific
group activities
- Manipulated elements of overarm/underarm throw (force, speed) to hit a
stationary target with accuracy
- Practiced fielding skills to dismiss opponents in a modified cricket game

Students’ knowledge retention will also be assessed at the conclusion of the lesson by
way of questioning regarding techniques taught in the lesson. Students will also be
asked to provide a brief demonstration of the skills taught throughout the lesson.
