Course Title: Clinical Laboratory Management
Course Number: LABMGT
Credit Units: 2 units lecture
Contact Hours per week: 2 hours lecture per week (36 hours per semester)
Course Placement: Fourth year, first term
Pre-requisites: All 3rd year Medical Technology Professional courses; MTLB

Course Description:

Rationale This course deals with the study of basic concepts of management as applied in the administrative aspects of
laboratory operations.

Focus Specifically, it deals with planning, organizing, leading/directing, controlling/evaluating the human, physical and
financial resources of the clinical laboratory. Emphasis is also given on quality systems and safety.

Outcome At the end of this course, the students are expected to know the basic concepts of laboratory management and
be able to apply these concepts in the administrative aspects of laboratory operations.

 A student who incurs absences in excess of 20% of the required class days shall receive a grade of “FA” and
shall not be allowed to take the final examinations for the course.

 Class attendance should be both regular and punctual. Three (3) of tardiness of at least 15 minutes shall be
counted as one absence.
