1 EXT SPACE 1
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
A vast sea of stars serves as the backdrop for the Main
Title, followed by a rollup which crawls into infinity.
Rollup reads:
Episode VII: Hope and Glory
It has been thirty years since the Rebel Alliance toppled

the evil Galactic Empire.
The embryonic New Republic has struggled to bring order back
to a galaxy divided by war, and faces new opposition every
day.
On a mission to the Darenga system, Rogue Squadron pilot

MAYA FINAAR discovers plans for a new Empire, backed by dark
Jedi, and construction of a weapon even more powerful than
the DEATH STAR...
2 FX. SPACE 2
PAN DOWN to reveal an X-Wing fighter running for it’s life
from a hail of laser fire, Darenga, a lush, Earthlike planet
beneath. The fighter gets hit and rocks a little. Continue
to PAN to reveal a STAR DESTROYER chasing her. It’s more
sleek than the destroyers we’re used to, it is thirty years
later after all. A squadron of TIE fighters is dispatched
and joins the chase. Another laser hits Maya’s X-Wing.
3 INT MAYA’S FIGHTER 3

Maya is jolted in her seat by the impact. Her Artoo unit
screams.
MAYA
Artoo? Artoo?
She checks a status display. Artoo is offline.
MAYA
Guess I’ll have to do this
manually! Front deflectors on
maximum and here goes nothing!

4 EXT SPACE 4
Maya’s X-Wing turns around, and heads towards it’s
attackers. She takes out two of the surprised TIEs right
away. It overshoots the Star Destroyer, which turns slowly
to pursue.
5 INT MAYA’S FIGHTER 5

MAYA
If you can hear me, Artoo, brace
yourself, we’re going to jump to-
A whining sound from the engines. Nothing
MAYA
Hyperspace? Oh come on!
She punches it again. Nothing.
6 EXT. SPACE 6
The Star Destroyer’s gunners get Maya’s ship in their
sights. They fire, and the ship is hit, taking off the wings
on the right side. It begins to fall towards the surface.
7 INT. STAR DESTROYER 7

The gunner draws a bead on Maya’s ship, preparing the kill
shot. Before he can shoot, he is interrupted by LIEUTENANT
GRANE (50s, Male).
GRANE
No. The captain wants her alive.
8 EXT. SPACE 8
The Star Destroyer lurks over the planet as Maya’s ship
enters the atmosphere, a meteor of light. Her ejector seat
fires, taking her away from the ship as it disintegrates.

9 INT. BRIDGE OF THE MARU 9

The Maru is a heavy cargo hauler taking parts and equipment
from one side of the planet to the other through low orbit.
It is piloted by DEAK ANTILLES, 19 (M). The Bridge has a
control pod not unlike that of the Millennium Falcon with a
domed glass window, and several seats overlooking the
outside, where we see the curve of the planet below.
DEAK
Re-entering atmosphere. Landing
course engaged.
The familiar beeping of an Artoo unit interrupts his
process.
DEAK
What’s that? A distress beacon?
His screen changes to show the fighter breaking up in the
atmosphere. A graphical heads-up display follows the ejector
pod. He zooms out, and sees the massive Star Destroyer.
DEAK
Oh my! What’s that doing here?
He turns a communicator knob opening a channel.
DEAK
Hey Dad, are you getting this?
ANTILLES
(On Radio)
I see it. Stay clear.
DEAK
The pilot ejected.
ANTILLES
So they’re safe. The destroyer will
pick them up.
DEAK
Maybe the destroyer is the one that
shot them down. What is it doing
here anyway? We’re a neutral
system.
ANTILLES
(Sighing)
There are no neutral systems when
the shooting starts.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 4.
DEAK
I can’t just leave them to-
ANTILLES
Yes you can! Trust me on this, you
want nothing to do with this!
DEAK
(Reluctant)
Sure. Resuming landing protocol.
ANTILLES
Deak. I mean it. You want to stay
as far away from trouble as
possible.
DEAK
Yes sir. See you tonight.
He cuts communication, and reaches to turn off the screen.
His finger hovers over it for a moment, watching the arc of
the escape pod as its parachute deploys.
DEAK
Oh hell.
10 EXT. SURFACE OF DARENGA 10
The pod hits the ground, the parachute tearing. It rolls

under its momentum. The surface is covered in a thick,
bracken-like plant growth.
The escape pod rolls close to a cliff. The ship’s Artoo
unit: R2D2 has rebooted and working extends a claw, trying
desperately to grip onto the bracken to slow the pod down.
But it’s not enough -- the pod slips off the cliff into an
enormous canyon below.
It falls, and we hear the SCREAM of Artoo, as the pod falls

towards destruction below.
But before it can hit the surface, it is caught up in a
TRACTOR BEAM.
Pan up to show the Maru, as it gently lowers the pod to the

ground and lands beside it.

11 EXT. BOTTOM OF DARENGA CANYON 11

Deak runs towards the pod, and tries desperately to open the
canopy. It’s badly damaged. R2D2 and Deak’s Artoo unit join
in. They manage to cut Maya free. She’s unconscious and in
bad shape.
Deak heaves her over his shoulder.

DEAK
Not much time. Better get her out
of here.
12 INT. MARU 12
As Deak carries Maya to a flat bed-like device. A SUSPENSION

FIELD activates and surrounds her.
DEAK
Life signs frozen. Hopefully this
will keep her alive until we get to
a real medbay.
R2D2 squeaks at him.
DEAK
I know, I know. Gotta get while the
gettings good.
As the Maru starts up and slowly takes off.
14 FX. CONTINUOUS SHOT OVER SURFACE OF DARENGA 14
As four TIE fighters, three of the standard ’straight wing’

design, and a new one, a bit like Darth Vader’s from episode
IV, but more ’curved’ fly at high speed over the surface of
the planet and enter the canyon. (Call this a Dark Fighter)

The Maru finishes lifting off, and slowly gains altitude,
just as the fighters enter the canyon, laser fire shooting.
They score several direct hits!

As the ship is rocked and Deak reacts to the hits.
DEAK
R1: All power to rear shields.
We’re going to take them on a
little joyride!

The Maru, showing surprising speed for her bulk rockets
forward as the next volley of fire misses behind her, but
ignites the bracken on the canyon floor.
PAN AROUND to follow the Maru from the TIE fighter’s POV as
they shoot at her but she dodges nimbly.
Ahead of her we see the rough tangled undergrowth of the
WORLD TREE. Native to Darenga, the world tree is a species
of plant that can cover thousands of acres with a single
lifeform. Trunks of the tree give the feeling of a forest
when underneath its canopy.
The Maru enters, and the fighters follow, dodging trunks in
a high speed chase.
Deak is strapping himself in as the ship lurches wildly,

avoiding the tree trunks, while also avoiding the TIE
fighter shots
DEAK
R1: Keep the course laid in. We’re
heading for the center. I have an
idea.
R1 bleeps in return. Deak glances at a translator window.
DEAK
Can the other unit help you? R2D2?
There’s a bleep in return.
DEAK
Do it. I’m going to scan for the
eye.
He works a console.
(CONTINUED)

DEAK
And there it is. Get us there and
then give me manual control. In
3...2...1...Now!
CUT TO:
19 EXT. UNDER THE WORLD TREE 19
As we follow the POV of the TIE fighters. The Maru is lost

amongst all the trunks. We continue to dodge, and then find
a clearing but....the Maru is gone!
20 INT. COCKPIT OF TIE FIGHTER 20

As the pilot scans for the Maru. It’s gone.
PILOT
Sir? There’s no sign of it. It’s
just...gone.
21 INT. COCKPIT OF DARK FIGHTER 21
The pilot of the dark fighter is a hooded creature. We can

just make out their chin, which is pale and sickly looking,
and their voice is creepy and menacing.
DARK JEDI
Find them.
22 EXT. UNDER THE WORLD TREE 22

As the fighters split up and search for the Maru amongst the
dense vegetation.
The bridge is darkened, like the rest of the ship. She’s

hovering in the ’eye’ of the tree, at the hub of the
creature, where the canopy is thinner.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 8.
DEAK
I know it’s only a matter of time
before they find us, but this gives
us time to catch our breath and
charge our shields.
R1 beeps at him.
DEAK
The center is also the only part
where the canopy is thin enough to
break through. If I can get us into
the upper atmosphere, we can get
out a distress-
The ship is rocked by a laser blast.
DEAK
They found us!
24 EXT. CENTER OF THE WORLD TREE 24
As the Maru burns its way up through the canopy and starts
to climb into the upper atmosphere. The TIE fighters emerge.
But before they can open fire, a beat up old X-Wing takes
out two of them!

DEAK
Unknown ship, thanks for the
assist, but watch out, there’s more
of them!
26 EXT. DARENGA 26
As the Maru rockets away, flanked by the X-Wing. The
remaining TIE fighter and the Dark fighter in hot pursuit. A
shot from the Dark Fighter hits the Maru, triggering a huge
explosion.

DEAK
Stabilizers hit. We got to take her
down.
28 EXT. DARENGA 28
As the Maru loses altitude, headed towards the ground, the

X-Wing turns to attack the chasing fighters. It destroys the
TIE fighter, but the Dark Fighter drops in on it’s tail.
A terrific dogfight ensues, with the Dark Fighter locked on
the tail of the X-Wing. It lines up the kill shot and then-
A laser shot from the Maru hits the wing of the dark fighter
and it crashes!

The dark fighter hits the ground hard, rolling and tumbling
to a stop in a cloud of dust. Nothing could survive that
crash.
But something does, as the DARK JEDI climbs out of the

wreckage, a black, hooded figure.
It holds up a pale hand and directs it to the X-Wing.
30 FX. OVER SURFACE OF DARENGA 30

The X-Wing stops in mid air, held by the unseen dark force.
It’s wings are stripped off.
The canopy of the X-Wing is torn off, and the pilot, in an

orange Rebel jumpsuit is yanked out.

As Deak is making his escape. He turns a rear camera to see
the scene as the pilot is being held by the Dark Jedi. He
zooms in to see the pilot’s face, contorted in agony as he
is held in mid air and slowly choked to death by the Jedi.
Close up on Deak’s reaction as he recognizes the pilot.

CONTINUED: (2) 10.
DEAK
Dad?

As the Dark Jedi pulls Antilles towards him. We see Antilles
kicking his legs and writhing to escape. He pulls a blaster
and begins to shoot at the Jedi, who casually deflects the
bolts away. He pulls a second blaster out, shooting rapidly.
The Dark Jedi smirks a little, but it’s concentration is
taken up by the sheer volume of laser fire from Antilles.
It’s enough of a distration because--suddenly the Maru lands

right on top of the dark jedi, crushing it instantly.
Antilles falls, but it’s only a few feet by now. He hits the
ground and rolls.

DEAK
There’s more than one way to skin a
bantha.

As Deak rushes over to his fallen father.
DEAK
Dad!
ANTILLES
I’m okay son. I’m okay.
DEAK
What was that thing?
ANTILLES
I can only guess. It’s been a long
time since I saw someone who could
do that.
DEAK
And what’s with all this? The
fighter and the uniform? You were
always a pacifist, telling me to
stay out of the star wars.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 11.
ANTILLES
It’s a long story son. And one I
can tell you on the way.
DEAK
Where?
ANTILLES
The Republic. We need to get this
news to the Republic.
35 EXT. DARENGA 35
As the Maru takes off again.

As father and son take the controls.
DEAK
They took out our stabilizers.
She’s not going to space.
ANTILLES
She won’t need to, and besides,
they’ll be looking for us. Just get
us to the Jutland wastes.
DEAK
What’s out there?
ANTILLES
My emergency backup. Where’s the
pilot of the X-Wing?
DEAK
Med hold.
ANTILLES
Great. Take this course, fly low
and fly fast.
DEAK
Yes, sir!
Antilles makes towards the back of the ship, watched with a
newfound respect by his son.

37 INT. MARU 37
As Antilles starts work on the med pod holding Maya. It
floats in front of him. He looks inside and sees the
insignia on her uniform.
ANTILLES
Rogue squadron. Who else?
38 EXT. JUTLAND WASTES 38

At the edge of a rocky desert, a beaten up old building
stands, looking like it has been unoccupied for a hundred
years. The Maru lands beside it, and it’s occupants
disembark, the Artoo units guiding Maya’s pod as the two men
rush ahead.
To the side of the building a rock monolith stands
innocently. Antilles runs up to it, and blows away dust to
reveal some fingerholes.
He pushes his fingers into the holes with an elaborate

pattern.
In front of them, huge HANGAR DOORS open in the ground,
revealing a hangar bay with a sleek looking ship, about the
size of the Millennium Falcon within.
ANTILLES
Never thought I’d be needing this,
but-She’s called the Nizhoni, and
she’s got the speed we’re gonna
need.
DEAK
Dad?
ANTILLES
Long story. Just get aboard.
39 FX. JUTLAND WASTES HANGAR 39
As the Nizhoni takes off and heads for space.

40 FX. SPACE 40
As the Nizhoni races away from the planet. Two Star
Destroyers move to block her.
41 INT. NIZHONI BRIDGE 41

DEAK
They’re trying to box us in.
ANTILLES
They don’t know who we are yet.
There are a lot of ships in this
system. They just want to see who
tries to run.
A communication comes in over the open channel.

COMMS VOICE (O.S.)
Unidentified ship, this is the
Supremacy. State your cargo and
destination.
ANTILLES
Supremacy, you have no jurisdiction
in this system. This is a neutral-
The response is laser fire that is a direct hit to their

shields.
ANTILLES
They really are desperate. Evasive-
CUT TO:
42 EXT. SPACE 42
As the Nizhoni takes another hit, but her shields absorb it.
The ship accelerates away from the Star Destroyers towards
two more.
But she’s deceptively fast and turns on a dime accelerating
towards the surface of the planet, turning to sling shot
around the atmosphere!
She breaks away from the blockade, heading towards space,
destroyers in tow.

43 INT. NIZHONI 43
DEAK
They’re gaining
ANTILLES
I know, but not fast enough. Ready
for hyper jump in 3...2...1
He punches it, and for once in a Star Wars movie, it works,
and we see the streaking stars outside.
44 INT. BRIDGE OF THE SUPREMACY 44

The Supremacy looks and feels like an Imperial Star
Destroyer from the OT. However things are just a little
different. The deck crew have black, sleek-looking uniforms,
and the soldiers wear grey Stormtrooper-like armor. These
folks liked the Empire, and are emulating it in every way.
At the center of the bridge is a raised dais and ADMIRAL
LYGION (50s Male) sits looking at the empty starfield
outside. LIEUTENANT MANJ (30s Male) approaches from the
command deck, nervously.
MANJ
They have made the jump to
hyperspace sir. We’ve lost them.
LYGION
No, we haven’t. We know exactly
where they are going.
MANJ
Sir?
LYGION
You saw that fighter that helped
them. An old rebel alliance
fighter. The force is with us Manj,
we just might be able to draw them
out even quicker than we wanted.
Get me the captain of the
Interdictor.
Manj makes the call from a console. In a moment, the captain

of the interdictor, CAPTAIN ELOP (40s Male) appears in
hologram.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 15.
ELOP
Sir.
LYGION
You let them escape.
ELOP
Sir, they made the jump to
hyperspace before we could-
LYGION
I don’t want excuses, I want
action. Fortunately for you, we
know where they went. Transmitting
co-ordinates now. You will follow
them.
ELOP
Yes sir!
Another officer leans in to Elop’s hologram, whispering
something to him.
ELOP
(Ct’d)
Sir? Can you confirm?
LYGION
You have your orders.
Elop’s face shifts in dread.

ELOP
Yes sir.
CUT TO:
Deak at the controls, alone, lost in thought as the universe

streaks by. His reverie is interrupted as Antilles enters.
ANTILLES
We should be in Republic space by
now. Begin broadcasting this code
on all channels.
Deak obeys, keying the code in.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 16.
DEAK
Dad?
ANTILLES
It’s a long story, son, but I
fought in the galactic civil war. I
was there the day the Empire fell.
DEAK
On Endor?
ANTILLES
Yeah. Sort of. I saw enough death
to fill a hundred lifetimes. I
didn’t want it anymore. I didn’t
want it for you.
DEAK
But you helped bring down the
empire!
ANTILLES
But at what cost?
DEAK
Entering the Coruscant system.
ANTILLES
Drop us out of Hyperspace
46 FX. SPACE. CORUSCANT SYSTEM 46

As the Nizhoni drops to sublight. Almost immediately a Star
Destroyer drops out behind her, and opens fire.
As the ship gets hit and rocked by a shot.

DEAK
They followed us!
ANTILLES
That’s not possible! But it’s
suicide for them to do that here-
He gestures towards the viewport as three Republic Cruisers
bear down on them.

As the Nizhoni manoevers behind the Republic cruisers which
open up on the star destroyer. A terrific battle ensues, but
the star destroyer is over matched and out gunned.
FX Note: Previous Star Wars movies had Star Destroyers look
pretty weak, with just a few guns. Give the scale of
destruction that they’re capable of in this battle.
Thousands of lasers searing the sky, along with massive
’primary’ guns on each ship rocking the other.
Just as the Nizhoni docks with one of the cruisers, the kill
shot hits the Star Destroyer on the stern, causing a chain
reaction of explosions within. But instead of withdrawing,
the Star Destroyer tries to ram one of the cruisers, but is
taken down, and completely destroyed before it can do so.
49 FX. ALLIANCE CRUISER LANDING BAY 49
As the Nizhoni lands, and a landing ramp extends
50 INT. LANDING BAY 50
As Antilles, Deak and the droids come down the ramp, Maya’s
suspension pod floating behind them. The first to greet
them, as he runs into the bay, is JACEN ORGANA-SOLO (20s), a
tall, powerfully build Jedi with his mother’s looks and his
father’s swagger.
JACEN
Maya!
DEAK
She’s going to be fine, but she
needs a real med bay.
Jacen looks over the pod, and checks the readings.
JACEN
Yes. Thank you! Thank you! You
don’t know how much this means to
me!
Together with a couple of soldiers, they hustle Maya’s pod
out of the landing bay without another word.
At that point, LUKE SKYWALKER (50s), C3PO and REI SKYWALKER

(late teens, early 20s, female) enter the docking bay.

DEAK
Great maker! That’s L-
ANTILLES
Luke!
Skywalker smiles, and embraces Antilles in a great bear hug.

LUKE
Wedge! I never thought I’d see you
again.
[Note: Wedge Antilles was in IV, V and VI as a minor

character. Fans would have spotted him instantly]
Deak looks on, aghast. His father knows Luke Skywalker? He
catches Rei’s eye. She smiles, shyly, and bows to him. The
greetings continue with-
C3PO
Artoo Deetoo! I thought you were
done for sure this time!
Artoo beeps
C3PO
Yes, well I had important business
here with the alliance and all!
Back on Deak.
DEAK
Uh dad.
ANTILLES (WEDGE)
Luke, this is my son. Deak.
LUKE
Pleased to meet you Deak. I hear we
owe you a great thanks.
DEAK
Uh. Thanks. You know my dad?
LUKE
Know him? Wedge was my wingman when
I destroyed the first death star!
REI
And Wedge was the one that
destroyed the second death star.
(CONTINUED)

DEAK
What? But you were always such a-
WEDGE
(Sadly)
Like I told you, son. A long story.
REI
Thank you for saving Maya. She
means a great deal to Jacen.
Deak looks at her. She’s a raven haired beauty, with the

looks of her grandmother Padme Amidala, but her mother,
Luke’s wife, must have been Asian (or the Star Wars
equivalent), for Rei has Japanese (or the Star Wars
equivalent) features, including long, silky black hair that
is tied in two braids, much akin to Leia on Endor in ROTJ.
His trance moment as he looks at her is interrupted by Luke

LUKE
Rei, why don’t you show Deak around
the ship, while they decode the
plans in Artoo. Wedge and I can do
some catching up.
WEDGE
Go ahead son.
He winks, as Rei ushers Deak out of the docking bay.
51 INT. CORRIDOR OF ALLLIANCE CRUISER - CONTINUOUS 51
DEAK
Jacen? Is he your-
REI
My cousin.
DEAK
Your cousin. Oh. I thought he might
be your-
REI
We are forbidden to love.
DEAK
But he sure seems to love her.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 20.
REI
Yes.
DEAK
That must be hard.
She looks to him, cocking her head to the side with
curiosity.
DEAK
For him. Doing what he’s not
supposed to do.
REI
It is difficult to disobey the
heart.
DEAK
You have no idea.
REI
I am a Jedi. Of course I have an
idea.
She sees his stunned expression, smiles and waves her hand
in the ’jedi mind trick’ manner. He gets the joke and laughs
along.
DEAK
This is all so overwhelming.
REI
Why?
DEAK
This morning I was doing a cargo
run from one side of a boring
planet to the other side. Now I’m
on an alliance cruiser with Luke
Skywalker! And it turns out my dad
and he go way back!
REI
Nothing about me?
DEAK
(Laughs)
And I just met the most beautiful
woman I’ve ever seen. But I don’t
even know her name. Deak. Deak
Antilles.
He reaches out his hand to shake hers. She takes his gently.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (3) 21.
REI
Rei. Rei Skywalker.
She smiles again as he gulps awkwardly.
CUT TO:

Manj approaches the command dais to report.
MANJ
Sir, the interdictor has been lost
with all hands. She was outnumbered
and outgunned.
LYGION
Good.
Manj tries not to show his surprise. But he fails, and
Lygion smiles a little.
LYGION
It was a worthy sacrifice. We need
to keep them on their toes and keep
them from seeing our real goal.
MANJ
But they have the plans. It’s only
a matter of time before-
LYGION
Yes. Yes it is.
He smiles over steepled fingers as we:

53 INT. ALLIANCE SHIP: LUKE’S QUARTERS 53

Luke is meditating as Rei and Jacen enter.
REI
Father. You called for us?
LUKE
That creature that Wedge and Deak
encountered. Did you sense it?

JACEN
No
LUKE
Nor I
REI
Could there be others like it?
JACEN
There must be. He can’t have killed
the only one.
LUKE
But why can’t we see them?
REI
Maybe we aren’t mean to?
Jacen and Luke look to her. Luke is concerned.
54 INT. ALLIANCE MED BAY 54

The Med Bay looks like the one on the Rebel Base on hoth. A
large Bacta tank dominates, with Maya inside, connected to
breathing equipment. She blinks and give a thumbs up to
Jacen, Rei and Deak.
55 INT. ALLIANCE MED BAY - LATER 55

As Maya is now resting on a bed. Jacen comes in and embraces
her.
MAYA
You don’t want them to see
JACEN
I don’t care about that right now.
It’s good to see you in one piece.
MAYA
Did we get the plans?
JACEN
Yes, they’re with General Madine.
He’s decrypting them now.
Rei and Deak stand in the doorway.
(CONTINUED)

MAYA
Are you the one I have to thank?
DEAK
Good to see you’re doing okay. That
was one heck of a crash.
JACEN
(To Deak)
Thank you.
Deak looks back to Jacen, Maya and finally lingers on Rei.
These people are his new life. And they’re good people.
DEAK
You’re welcome.
56 INT. REBEL BRIEFING ROOM - LATER 56
Luke, Wedge, LEIA ORGANA SOLO (50s, Female), HAN SOLO (60s,
Male), R2D2 and C3PO are here.
WEDGE
What happened? After Endor? I mean
Star Destroyers and TIE fighters on
my world!
LEIA
Something we didn’t foresee. The
alliance tried to rebuild the
Republlic.
REI
But the Republic didn’t want to be
rebuilt.
LEIA
For too many species the face of
the Empire was a human face. The
Emperor was human. The governors
were human. The stormtroopers were
humans and clones of a human.
REI
And Vader was human.
LEIA
Once the Empire was gone, humans
were still around. To those who had
been under the boots of the
empire...

They wouldn’t accept a different
human governance.
LEIA
The alliance was founded on
principles of equality.
LUKE
But on thousands of worlds, once
the Empire was gone, humans became
pariah. Many of them had no choice

General Madine (70s, Male, appeared in ROTJ) enters.

MADINE
We were wrong. We’ve finished
decoding the data that Rogue One
recovered. You should see.

The cast joins a large assembled group of Alliance brass,

some present in-person. Some via hologram. Madine projects a
ship over the center of the room. The ship is massive, ugly,
and armored. The projection changes as he talks.

MADINE
She’s called the Palpatine. And
that, if nothing else should tell
you the direct intent that they
have. It’s everything the Death
Stars should have been. Mobile.
Fast. And lethal.
The projection shifts to show the business end of the ship,
a dish array like that on the Death Star as its primary
weapon.
MADINE
(Ct’d)
Instead of putting the weapon on a
space station, they’ve built a ship
around it. It’s not much more than
a flying gun.
The projection shifts again to show the armor and reactors
as Madine talks.
MADINE
A heavily armored flying gun. As
you can see she is protected by
several redundant layers of
physical armor, backed up by force
field shields. It would take the
firepower of the entire alliance
fleet just to make a dent on her.
The weakness of the Death Star --
the main reactor -- is also
removed.
(A Beat)
This ship has eight reactors. Each
independent of the other. Each
within such heavily shielded
compartments that should one of
them be destroyed, the blast would
be contained and vented into space.
Pull on the reaction of the crowd. Stunned silence. Wedge

looks deflated.
LUKE
Could we get a strike team aboard
to sabotage it?
MADINE
The reactor areas are droids only.
Droids equipped with a restraining
bolt that is issued aboard the
ship. Completely secure. There’s no

way we could get anybody in. Not
even a Jedi.
DEAK
How about the shields? They would
have to be on an independent power
circuit. Otherwise when they shoot
the weapon, their shields would go
down. It makes sense that they
wouldn’t weaken themselves in that
way.
Rei looks impressed as Deak speaks up. Madine is thoughtful.
LEIA
Could we get a strike team aboard
to take down the shields and not
the reactors? Then the fleet could
jump in and pound the ship.
LUKE
We wouldn’t need to destroy it. We
only need to stop it.
HAN
A crazy haired scheme to go aboard
a heavily defended ship to sabotage
it, so the alliance can blow it up.
Haven’t we done this before? Count
me in!
LUKE
I’m in.
JACEN
Me too.
REI
And I.
DEAK
(Looking at Rei)
I want to go.
WEDGE
No, Deak. This isn’t your fight.
DEAK
Dad. I want to go. It was my fight
the moment I rescued Maya.

That’s what I’m afraid of.

DEAK

An idea you gave me.

Star? The fall of the Empire!
WEDGE

The first Death Star had just
destroyed Alderaan, and was going

I know. I read the histories, I-
WEDGE
(Interrupting)
The second was under construction.
There were thousands of people
aboard. Innocent people, workers,
probably pressed into service.
Thousands of them.
(A beat)
And I killed them. Me. I fired the
kill shot.
DEAK
Dad?
WEDGE
And now we learn it was all for
nothing. We’re all at each other’s
throats again. We fought for Hope
and we fought for Glory. What did
we get?
DEAK
What would have happened if you
didn’t?
WEDGE
I don’t know. All I do know is that
I killed thousands. And what was it
for?
DEAK
It was for me, Dad. If you hadn’t,
I would never have existed.

As Deak embraces Wedge, we PULL OUT of the room, to another

part of the ship, where we see Rei meditating. We hear the
echoes of their conversation.
A single tear rolls down her cheek.

The Mordaan system is a giant red star. At a distance of 1

AU from the star is a Saturn-like ringed gas giant. In its
orbit is the construction yard for the Palpatine. The yard
itself is a massive space station, engineered for the
purpose of building this ship. Surrounding the shipyards are
dozens of Star Destroyers.
PULL IN on the Palpatine showing its sheer size, and the
layers of armor and security around it.
A SHUTTLE leaves one of the destroyers and heads towards the
Palpatine’s docking bay.

We FOLLOW the shuttle as it passed through the outer shields

of the Palpatine, and through narrowing passageways as it
makes its way to dock.
AUTOMATED TURRETS follow its flight path, ready to
obliterate it at a moments notice.
We want to give the impression that this place is impossible

to penetrate. It’s hugely secure. Only the wiles of a Jedi
Master would give you any chance of getting in...

As the shuttle finally glides to a landing. It’s instantly
surrounded by soldiers and turrets, ready to destroy it.

ADELORE
I hope it was satisfactory, sir.
LYGION
Yes. Very much. I think even Lord
Vader would have a hard time

It’s impossible. There’s no way

He throws up his hands as CHEWBACCA roars agreement.

HAN

Look at it! Rotating codes, layered
shells. These guys learned about
how we beat the Empire. There’s no
way we can do it.
LUKE
I can do it. I know I can.
JACEN
With our help
He looks to Rei, who nods agreement.

DEAK
Wait.
He squints at the ship model, stands and motions towards the

back of the ship to zoom in on it.
WEDGE
Is that what I think it is?
DEAK
Type C Cargo loader.
HAN
A what?
WEDGE
A type C. We’ve been looking at how
they get people in and out, but
there’s a lot of material that
needs to get onto a ship like that
to construct the interior.
LANDO
(Squinting)
And they load it there.

DEAK
A type C is fully automated. Open
to vaccuum, so no people involved,
all droids.
WEDGE
Insurance is cheaper.
HAN
But they must have security sensors
to detect lifesigns or some other
safeguard.
REI
Yes, but those sensors are
monitored by people.
JACEN
People we can jam.
HAN
Six of us. Three Jedi and three
others. We pair up so the Jedi can
’block’ for us.
JACEN
Father. You should stay out of this
one. Besides we’ll need you and the
falcon if things get hairy. The
fastest hunk of junk in the Galaxy
would make a great escape ship.
LUKE
Wedge. You know these ships. You’re
with me.
JACEN
I’ll take Maya.
REI
And I’ll take Deak.
LUKE
We get aboard and take out their
shield generators. Then the
alliance fleet attacks and finishes
the job.
LANDO
I’ve got a bad feeling about this
Chewbacca roars.

As the MILLENNIUM FALCON drops out of hyperlight, and
stealthily makes its way towards the shipyards. We notice
that there are a lot less Star Destroyers now than earlier.

You blend right in.
The falcon drifts into the various junk and detritus from
ship building, casually left in a decaying orbit of the
planet below. Much easier to dump it than to keep a tidy
shipyard.

Now. We wait.

Deak is wielding a lightsaber, much to the amusement of Han

and Lando. Rei is instructing him carefully.
HAN
Now what does this remind me of?

Concentrate on my voice, and feel
the force flowing through you.
DEAK
I’ve never felt the force. Why
should I feel it now.
REI
(Whispering)
Because it has felt you.
She places a blast helmet over his head.
DEAK
I can’t see.
REI
Your eyes can deceive you. Trust
your feelings.
DEAK
My feelings are blind too.
She tosses a couple of ’seeker’ droids in the air. These are
the same droids that Luke faces all those years ago, the
first time he held a saber.
REI
Focus
DEAK
I’m trying
REI
Breathe deep. Let the force flow.
Let it use you. Let it show you.
The seekers open fire -- directly at Rei! Without thinking,
and with cat-like speed, Deak, drops the saber, and grabs
her roughly turning her, so his back is between the seeker
droids and her.
DEAK
Ow!
LUKE
They’re not supposed to do that.
Deak throws off the helmet, and looks to Rei,
(CONTINUED)

DEAK
Are you okay?
REI
Yes.
He awkwardly lets go of her, as Han looks to Luke with a

’Hey, that’s your daughter’ expression on his face. Luke is
lost in deeper thoughts.

Rei continues to meditate. She looks troubled.
LUKE
What are you doing?
REI
Testing him.
LUKE
But he has no Force powers. That’s
as clear as day.
REI
There are other things to test him

It’s the only path worth walking.
An intercom chime goes off.

HAN
(O.S. via Radio)
Okay boys and girls, time to suit
up, we got a live one!
As Luke, Wedge, Jacen, Maya, Rei and Deak have changed into
pressure suits. The Hold is sealed off, and a hatch open
exposed to space. Han, Chewie and Lando are in the cockpit.
C3PO and R2D2 are here too.

The ship lurches a little.

As the six heroes, along with R2D2, jump into the vaccum,
and land on the hull of the cargo hauler, holding themselves
on with magnetic boots.
PULL IN on Rei as she stays close to Deak. She extends a
comm cable to connect with his suit.
REI
Radio silence doesn’t mean we can’t
speak.
DEAK
Yeah. You getting anything? You
know, with the Force and all?
REI
Nothing. But I want to speak to you
before we go in there. There’s
something you need to know.
DEAK
What?
REI
You have a Destiny. I don’t know
what it is, but the Force has been
telling me about you every day of
my life.

REI
Before I met you, I knew you.

You can’t do that again, Deak. It’s

DEAK
You told me to trust my feelings.
REI
Yes
(CONTINUED)

Well my feelings were to protect
you and to have your back no matter
what. You’re a Jedi Master, and I’m
just a cargo pilot, but no matter
what it takes, no matter what I can

Their eyes meet through their helmets. PULL BACK to show the
infinity of space behind, beyond and between them.

We follow the cargo ship as it approaches the Palpatine. It

docks, in hard vacuum, and droids begin unloading it. It’s
clear that lifeforms aren’t trusted with this job.
Under Jedi-induced darkness and stealth, our party steals
aboard the ship, creeping from shadow to shadow, trying to
be undetected by security systems or droids.
They make it to an empty control room with an airlock, that
they shut, and repressurize.
WEDGE
Must have been a control room they
used as they got the droids online.
JACEN
I hope we haven’t triggered any
alarms.
LUKE
I sense nothing. You?
JACEN
(Focussing for a moment)
No.
LUKE
Good. You’re getting stronger.
Artoo plugs itself into the computer system and begins

hacking.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 39.
DEAK
I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
The talk of feelings makes Rei look at him closely.
DEAK
(Shrugging)
Nothing weird. Just that we’re on a
heavily secured Neo-Empire ship.
There’s probably thousands of
stormtroopers within a laser shot
of us.
He fingers his laser rifle nervously. We see it’s the one he
was working on earlier.
Artoo beeps and displays plans on the screens.
MAYA
He’s found the three reactors for
the shields. They’re all different!
JACEN
To prevent automated attacks.
She points and squints at the schematics.
MAYA
This one is all the way at the
other end of the ship. There’s
maintenance tubes that go there.
Jacen and I will take that.
WEDGE
The closest one is a similar model
to what I used in my station back
home. I think I can override it.
LUKE
Then we’ll get that.
DEAK
That means we have to get this one.
He zooms into the display.
WEDGE
I’ve never seen a reactor like that
before.
LUKE
Nor I, maybe we should-
(CONTINUED)

REI
No. We got it.
MAYA
As soon as one of those things goes
up, the entire ship will be on
alert. We’ll need to synchronize
our times.
JACEN
Oh Two Hundred. Get in place and
set your charges so they all go off
at oh two hundred. Meet back here
at oh two thirty for extraction.
REI
That’s a long way for you to come
back?
MAYA
We’ll catch a ride.
LUKE
Let’s go.
75 INT. PALPATINE CORRIDOR 75
Jacen keeps watch as Maya works on a panel.

MAYA
Almost there.
She yanks with a grunt, and the panel comes off. It drops to
the floor, clanging loudly.
JACEN
Stealthy. I get it.
MAYA
Now come to mama.
She looks through the gap left by the panel, and beneath
they can see a large conduit with shuttle-like pod on a
monorail moving up and down the length of the ship.
MAYA
(Ct’d)
It’s how maintenance gets around.
You don’t think they’re going to
walk, do you?

We FOLLOW a monorail pod with two mechanics as Jacen and
Maya climb through the hatch far above. As the pod passes
under them, they leap onto it. Maya throws one of the
mechanics overboard, who falls to his death with a Wilhelm
Scream.
Jacen punches the other and knocks him unconcsious.
JACEN
You shouldn’t have thrown him
overboard!
MAYA
Why?
JACEN
We could have taken their uniforms.
MAYA
I’m not changing in front of you!
JACEN
Now’s not the time for modesty.
MAYA
I’m not being modest!
JACEN
Well it’s too late now anyway!
MAYA
Uh oh.
JACEN
What?
MAYA
Look!
A security bot enters the other side of the tunnel, headed

towards them. It’s long, and bristles with laser guns,
cameras and blades.
MAYA
(Ct’d)
Sit down. And look casual.
JACEN
We have him here.
Points at the unconscious mechanic.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 42.
MAYA
Cover him with your cloak. Told you
that you should have thrown him
overboard.
JACEN
No, you didn’t.
MAYA
At least in our pressure suits we
probably look like outside workers.
Sit still and act casual.
JACEN
How do you act casual?
MAYA
I dunno. Smile. Hit on the pretty
girl.
JACEN
I don’t see a pretty girl around
here.
She glares at him as the security droid arrives, and it

hovers over their pod for a moment. She looks up at the
droid for a moment, acting like any other worker,
acknowledging its presence but showing no fear.
MAYA
Have you fixed the manifolds on
deck 51?
JACEN
Uh.
MAYA
Oh come on, that was on your duty
roster for today. Don’t tell me you
forgot again?
The droid gives them a final once over, and leaves.

MAYA
For a Jedi you can be really slow
sometimes, you know that?
JACEN
Yeah.
MAYA
We’ve arrived.
(CONTINUED)

The pod pulls up to the terminus. We see lots of mechanics,

as well as guards and officers there.
JACEN
Here goes nothing.
CUT TO:
As Luke and Wedge stealthily sneak their way through

shadowed areas, avoiding guards and patrols that pass by
regularly.
WEDGE
I’d much rather do this in an
X-Wing.
LUKE
Me too.
A large contingent of soldiers appears at the other end of

the corridor, marching their way. They slip into a dark
alcove, as Luke closes his eyes, using the Force to hide
them.
78 INT. PALPATINE CHASM 78

A large chasm with a narrow bridge across it, reminiscent of
the Death Star in SWIV. At the center of the bridge is a
column that contains a console. (Same as the one Ben Kenobi
used to deactivate the Death Star shields in Episode IV)
Rei and Deak sneak into an alcove on one side of the bridge.
They make to go across the bridge, but duck back quickly as
three guards approach from the other side.
DEAK
They’re going to see us.
REI
No, they’re not.
She pushes him back against the wall, and squeezes into a
small gap. She holds her hand up as the three guards walk
past them, chatting idly.
(CONTINUED)

REI
(Whispering)
Come on!
They scurry to the control console at the midway point of
the bridge over the chasm.
DEAK
Wait.
REI
What is it?
DEAK
This console. Someone left it
signed in. Let me check on where we
are. We might be able to overload
the reactor from here.
REI
I don’t like it.
DEAK
Just a minute.
REI
Okay. Be quick.
Her eyes are darting around. She doesn’t like the exposed
location.
DEAK
There’s something I need to know.
REI
What?
DEAK
If you Jedi can’t love, why are you
here? I mean, why did Luke have a
child?
REI
He broke the rules.
DEAK
Runs in the family?
REI
Something like that.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (3) 45.
DEAK
What happened to your mother?
REI
She died. Giving birth to me.
DEAK
(Sadly)
Sorry, I-uh-
He stops, and looks at the terminal. Suddenly serious.
DEAK
Uh oh.
REI
What is it.
DEAK
There’s no reactor here. Nothing.
Beyond those doors is just an
empty-
He is cut off as he begins to choke. On the other side of

the bridge, the doors slam shut, and two of the Dark Jedi
jump down from the darkness onto the bridge. They activate
their lightsabers.
One of them gestures with his arm, and deak is thrown back
against the console. He slams to the floor and doesn’t move.
Rei activates her weapon. A light staff like that used by
Darth Mail in Episode I.
She screams and runs at the Dark Jedi as they begin to
fight.
CUT TO:
79 INT. PALPATINE - MAINTENANCE STATION 79

As Jacen and Maya disembark. Suddenly Jacen stops, feeling
his stomach.
MAYA
You okay?
JACEN
Something’s wrong.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 46.
She looks at the others in the station. They are ignoring

she and Jacen, but something about their casualness doesn’t
feel right. She drags him out of the platform.
MAYA
What is it?
JACEN
I think Rei is in trouble. I think
we all are.
MAYA
What else is new? Come on. We’ve
got a job to do, let’s get to it.
CUT TO:

As Luke and Wedge scurry along. They reach a door. Luke
stops, lost in concentration.
WEDGE
What is it?
LUKE
I must go on alone from here.
WEDGE
What?
LUKE
Go back to the command room. Your
son will need you. My daughter will
need you.
WEDGE
But what about the-
The door opens, and inside the room, in the darkness we see
shadows moving. A lightsaber ignites, followed by another,
and another. We lost count of how many...
LUKE
Go!
He activates his saber and charges into the room!
CUT TO:

As Rei and the Dark Jedi continue to fight. She is fast and
nimble, and more than a match for two of them. She pulls off
a roundhouse kick knocking one of them down, while impaling
the other with her staff.
Quickly two more dark Jedi jump in, and attack her from
behind. She turns to parry their kill blow, and pushes them
back using the force. One of them falls into the chasm.
But the first one jumps on her back, pulling her head to the
side, trying to break her neck.
She throws it, slamming it to the ground, and with a turn of
her staff, she cuts its arm off. The arm, complete with
saber, also falls into the chasm.
Finally we see the face of a Dark Jedi. It’s white and

sickly. It looks like it must have been human once, and
female, but now it is twisted ashen embodied evil.
It hisses at Rei and leaps at her. She grabs it, and turns,
throwing it sideways and into the chasm.
Four more dark jedi leap down from the heights onto the
bridge. They activate their sabers and move towards Rei.

As Maya and Jacen make their way towards the reactor.
MAYA
It should be just beyond-
She opens the door, and looks in. Shock registers on her
face.
JACEN
What is it?
ANGLE AROUND to the door and Maya’s POV. We see through the
door, and there’s nothing but an empty chamber!
MAYA
It’s a trap!

As Han looks at his watch.
LANDO
Still nothing?
HAN
Nothing.
LANDO
The fleet’s almost here.
HAN
I know.
Han and Chewie exchange glances.
84 INT. PALPATINE - REACTOR HOLD 84
As Luke is surrounded by dozens of the Dark Jedi. He

activates his saber and cuts through the first few. Others
jump on his back, and Luke throws them off.
One of the Dark Jedi lunges at him with it’s saber -- it’s
too late to dodge, so Luke uses the Force to pull the saber
from the creature’s grasp, cuts it in half and turns to stab
the creature.
He sees an overhang a few feet above the melee, and jumps up
to it.
One of the creatures jumps up after him, and he kicks it in

the face. It falls to the floor beneath.
CUT TO:

Another couple of Dark Jedi have fallen under Rei’s
onslaught, and she continues to fight but-
One of them uses the force to pull a part of a console and
fling it at her. It hits her on the back and stuns her. She
falls, dropping her saber.
The two remaining Dark Jedi converge on her, lightsabers at

the ready to impale her.
Suddenly Laser Fire cuts one of them down.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 49.
ANGLE BACK on Deak, whose modified laser rifle shoots like a

gatling gun, fast, random lasers that it’s hard for the Dark
Jedi to keep up with!
But it continues to deflect them while it turns towards
Deak, an evil leer on its face.
PULL IN ON the Dark Jedi’s evil expression, kill lust in its
eyes.
But its eyes freeze in horror and pain!
PULL OUT to show that Rei has woken up, and has stabbed it
through the chest, the tip of her saber erupting through its
sternum.
The creature falls.
REI
Not today!
DEAK

But she can’t walk -- her leg was broken in the melee. He
runs to the console, notices this, and goes back for her.
REI
You have to leave me.
DEAK
No.
REI
Deak. You have to leave me. Go.
Now.
DEAK
If you’re doing Jedi mind stuff,
it’s not working. I’m not leaving
you, so get that thought out of
your head.
He holds her up, shoulder to shoulder and they make their
way back to the center console.
Suddenly her eyes widen.

REI
Deak!
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (3) 50.
We see above them in the chasm -- at doorways are more of

the Dark Jedi. One leaps down to the far side of the bridge
at ’our’ level. Then another, and another. Slowly, they walk
across the bridge towards Deak and Rei who are trapped in
the center.
TENSION as the Dark Jedi close in on the young couple.
But then Deak punches a control on the console and the
bridge instantly retracts, sending the Dark Jedi plummeting
to their doom!
DEAK
Hold tight. This had better work.
He punches another control, and exhaust vents in the sides

of the chasm start sucking air in. He takes Rei and leaps
from the central console. They fall into the chasm, but are
sucked into the vacuum tubes!
CUT TO:

As Maya and Jacen come running around a corner, laser fire
close behind them. Jacen blocks some of it with his saber.
They turn another corner, right into a patrol.
Maya shoots and kills two of them before they can react. She
turns, running back the other direction, only to run
straight into Jacen.
MAYA
We can’t go back that way.
JACEN
We can’t go back that way.
MAYA
So now what?
Jacen strokes his eyebrow. [Harkens back to a deleted scene
from Episode III where Obi-Wan and Anakin swap signals
baseball style. This particular signal has a meaning...]
MAYA
(Ct’d)
Oh not again!
She grabs him close, and he pushes his saber into the deck,
spinning around quickly to cut a hole that they fall through
to the deck below.

They quickly gather their wits and start running.
87 INT. PALPATINE CORRIDOR - ELSEWHERE 87

As Wedge stops and looks around. He checks a scanner.
WEDGE
Of all the times to get lost!
He turns a corner, and looks through a doorway. Beyond is a
hangar filled with TIE Fighters and Dark Fighters.
He grins.
CUT TO:
As the Alliance Fleet drops out of hyperspeed. The Star

Destroyers race to engage.
A terrific battle ensues with each fleet exchanging laser
fire. Swarms of X-Wing and Y-Wing fighters launch from the
Alliance ships, to be met by equal numbers of TIE fighters
from the Star Destroyers.
Intercut scenes of the battle as the fighters dogfight with
each other, and/or attempt to take out the capital ships.
CUT TO:
89 INT. PALPATINE EXHAUST SHAFT 89
Reminiscent of Luke’s plunge in Episode V, Deak and Rei

slide through the exhaust vents. They fall through another
shaft and slide again. They hit into a long, smooth vent
that slides towards a large propellor blade at the far end.
It’s enough to mash them, but there’s nothing they can grip
onto.
TENSION as they slide towards imminent death, but then-
Rei activates her staff, and snaps it in two to make two
lightsabers. She rolls onto her back, Deak holding onto her
good leg as they slide. She digs the sabers into the sides
of the shaft like a mountain climber with ice picks!
They slow down and stop just before the blades.

DEAK
That was close.
CUT TO:
90 INT. PALPATINE - REACTOR HOLD 90

Luke is trapped and cornered. Dozens of Dark Jedi on the
floor beneath his raised dais. They rip panels from the
walls using the force, holding them in the air, preparing to
throw them at him.
PULL IN on the face of one of them as it snarls.
PULL BACK to show Luke’s reaction. No choice. The best
defence is a good offense!
LUKE
No!
Like the scene in VI when he was cornered and had to fight
Vader, Luke leaps off his dais, and goes beserk. He cuts
through the Dark Jedi like a hot knife through butter.
Music reaches a crescendo as he continues to kill them, but
every one he cuts down is replaced by two more. He continues
to scream.
PULL IN on his face in his battle lust -- his eyes are black
within black!
CUT TO:

As Deak jumps from an open panel in the ceiling to the
floor. He reaches up to help Rei down.
DEAK
I think it’s that way.
He stops as he sees Rei’s face. She’s frozen.
DEAK
(Ct’d)
Rei. Come on.

REI
Father!
DEAK
Come on! If he’s in trouble, we
have to go help him!
REI
He has fallen into chaos.
CUT TO:

As the battle intensifies. Huge losses on both sides, but
the Alliance fleet keeps pressing forward.

93 INT ALLIANCE SHIP BRIDGE 93

As Admiral Ackbar oversees the proceedings.
ACKBAR
Meeting stiff resistance. Call in
the rest of the fleet. This time we
set the trap.
CUT TO:

As more Alliance ships jump behind the Neo-Imperial fleet
and begin to cut away at them from behind.
CUT TO:
HAN
All the pieces are on the board.
LANDO
That’s what I’m afraid of.
(A beat)
(MORE)

LANDO (cont’d)
Chewie. Warm up the Hyperdrive.
Chewie barks back at him.

LANDO
No, we’re not leaving them.
He looks back at Han.
LANDO
(Ct’d)
But we might need a quick getaway.
CUT TO:

Maya and Jacen cut down the last of the pursuing party. Maya
with a blaster shot to the head, Jacen by deflecting their
lasers back at them with his saber.
They turn a corner and run into Rei and Deak, who look the
worst for wear, not least Rei with her broken leg.
REI
(To Jacen)
They got him.
JACEN
We have to make sure they don’t get
us all!
CUT TO:
97 INT PALPATINE BRIDGE 97

The bridge follows the classic ’Star Destroyer’ design, with
pits of consoles manned by bridge officers, and a raised
dais for the command crew.
Through the viewports we see the battle going on outside.

Aledore is communicating with Lygion via hologram.
ALEDORE
We believe they are all here sir.
Our fleet can’t hold out much
longer.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 55.
LYGION (HOLOGRAM)
Have you secured the package.
ALEDORE
Yes sir. Shuttle will be launching
shortly, headed your way.
LYGION (HOLOGRAM)
Good. As soon as it is done,
execute program Locust.
ALEDORE
Yes sir.
LYGION (HOLOGRAM)
Thank you.
ALEDORE
Sir?
LYGION (HOLOGRAM)
Yes, captain?
ALEDORE
It’s been a pleasure serving with

He salutes, and Lygion returns the salute as we-

As the Battle rages on. The tide is turning in favor of the
alliance.
Short cut scenes of action, as fighter pilots and gunners

duke it out.

99 INT. ALLIANCE SHIP BRIDGE 99

A Star Destroyer explodes on screen, and the crew whoops to
celebrate.
ACKBAR
Move heavy cruisers into attack
positions on the Palpatine. Take
that ship out!
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 56.
CUT TO:
HAN
Our people are still on that ship,
sir. You can’t shoot yet.
CUT TO:

ACKBAR
The shields on that ship are still
up. Your squadron failed or was
captured.
(A beat)
It’s going to take some time to cut
through their shields, so they
still ahve time to escape.
CUT TO:

HAN
Negative. We can’t just leave them
there!
LANDO
They cut us off!
CUT TO:

As the battle continues to turn. Many of the alliance
capital ships now converge on the Palpatine. They open fire,
but do little to no damage.
CUT TO:
57.

Klaxons go off as the ship comes under attack. Our four
heroes go as quick as they can in the direciton of the
control room where they left Artoo.
MAYA
(To Communicator)
Artoo, are you still there?
Familiar beeps come through her communicator.

MAYA
(Ct’d)
Good. We’re coming your way. We’ll
be there in just a-
They turn a corner into a squad of stormtroopers and a
couple of Dark Jedi.
The troopers level their guns on our party, and the Jedi
activate their light sabers with a snarl.
Deak gently lowers Rei to the ground, and hands her the two
sabers. She snaps them together to make a staff. Their eyes
meet. She nods.
Deak, Maya and Jacen stand shoulder to shoulder and face

down the enemy.
Maya screams a battle cry!
CUT TO:

As the Millennium Falcon leaves its cover of garbage and
makes its way towards the Palpatine, trying to avoid any
battle engagement.
CUT TO:

As Maya and Deak trade laser blows with the soldiers, and
Deak lays into the two Dark Jedi.
We see him in full combat mode for the first time. He’s a
big, strong, man, and a powerful Jedi. The two Dark Jedi are
no match for him.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 58.
A stormtrooper shoots at him, but he deflects the laser.

Maya takes out the trooper. As Deak finishes off the two
Dark Jedi, he turns on the troopers, and they fall back.
DEAK
Nice work.
JACEN
Thanks. And thanks for watching my
back.
MAYA
Always.
They share a smile as Deak returns to help Rei up. She’s in
a trance now. He has to carry her.
JACEN
What happened to her?
DEAK
I don’t know. She said something
about him falling into chaos-
JACEN
Now?
MAYA
What’s going on.
JACEN
Something she’s been telling me
about since we were kids.
(A beat)
We’d better get out of here.
107 INT. PALPATINE - CONTROL ROOM 107
As Artoo disengages from the computer, and our heroes enter.

MAYA
Come on Artoo, we’re going.
DEAK
I’m staying. My father didn’t make
it back yet. He was with Luke.
REI
(Coming out of her trance
momentarily)
No!
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 59.
JACEN
He’s right. We can’t leave him
here. Maya, go ahead with Rei,
we’ll go back for-
Artoo starts squealing.

DEAK
What is it?
He checks a translator pad.
DEAK
(Ct’d)
They’re warming up the primary
weapon. They’re going to shoot-he
wouldn’t want me to stay for this.
He wouldn’t-
He looks again at Rei and remembers his promise. He takes
his helmet and clicks it on, so the others won’t see his
tears.
DEAK
We have to go.
They prepare their pressure suits and helmets, and exit
through the airlock.
CUT TO:
108 INT. PALPATINE - BRIDGE 108
DECK OFFICER
Reactors online sir. Power at
maximum.
ALEDORE
Perfect. Prepare to fire.
DECK OFFICER
Target, sir?
ALEDORE
Zero, Zero, Zero by Zero Zero Zero
DECK OFFICER
Sir?
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 60.
ALEDORE
You have your orders.
DECK OFFICER
Yes Sir. Firing solution ready in
five minutes.
ALEDORE
Good. You may fire when ready.
CUT TO:

PULL IN on the Red Giant star at the center of the system.
Then PUSH BACK to show the battle as the Alliance have all
but routed the Neo Empire fleet, and continue to bombard the
Palpatine.
CUT TO:
110 FX. ON THE PALPATINE 110

As four spacesuits float out the cargo bay, Artoo in tow.
They look up to see the Millennium Falcon waiting for them.
JACEN
I never thought she could look so
beautiful.
They head towards the Falcon’s open hatch.
CUT TO:
DECK OFFICER
Admiral. They’re readying their
primary weapon.
ACKBAR
Continue the assault. We must
destroy this ship before it can
deploy.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 61.
DECK OFFICER
Sir. They’re targeting-
(A beat)
Oh my gods!
ACKBAR
Are they targeting us? Evasive
maneuvers if so!
DECK OFFICER
No! They’re targeting the-
The ship gets rocked by a blast as a squadron of TIE

fighters attacks, cutting the Deck Officer off in
midsentence.
CUT TO:

Indicators showing the weapon heating up.
DECK OFFICER
Ready to fire in thirty seconds.
CUT TO:

The atmosphere repressurizes and the party takes their
helmets off.
HAN
Wait? Where’s Luke?
JACEN
We lost him.
HAN
You don’t just lose a Jedi Master!
And where’s Wedge?
LANDO
What happened to Rei?
As her helmet comes off, we see her eyes are black-in-black
too. She looks at the others with incredible intensity.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 62.
REI
Jump. Jump now!
JACEN
(Realization coming to him)
No! They can’t! They can’t do that.
HAN
What’s going on?
REI
Jump! They’re going to destroy the
star and kill us all!
Lando rushes to the bridge and straps in, taking the Falcon
away from the battle and accelerating towards light speed so
they can jump.
The ship lurches hard.
114 FX. NEAR THE PALPATINE 114
As we see the Falcon get caught in a tractor beam. It’s

pulling the Falcon back towards the Palpatine. There’s no
escape!
CUT TO:

The power indicators continue to grow.
DECK OFFICER
Twenty seconds
CUT TO:

LANDO
We’re not going to make it!
Chewie screams as he bashes the controls.

Suddenly they see a TIE Fighter Headed right for them!

As Wedge is strapped in, looking uncomfortable.
WEDGE
Need a little help?
CUT TO:
118 FX. NEAR THE PALPATINE 118

As Wedge’s TIE fighter strafes the tractor beam emitter,
destroying it, freeing the falcon, and saving his son.
CUT TO:

The power meters show full.
DECK OFFICER
All systems online. Ready to fire.
ALEDORE
(Pausing a beat, thinking of
what’s ahead)
Fire!
CUT TO:
120 INT. TIE COCKPIT 120

WEDGE
Get out of here Falcon! They’re
firing!

As Deak rushes in.
DEAK
We can’t leave you!
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 64.
WEDGE
(O.S.)
Yes you can, and yes you will. Han.
Get him out of here. Get your son
out of here too!
DEAK
Dad!
WEDGE
(O.S.)
I love you son. And may the force
be with-
He is cut off by static interference as-
CUT TO:

- the primary weapon on the Palpatine fires. Eight reactors,
designed to shoot only once, and this is it. A force of
power the likes of which has never been seen before lances
out, disintegrating everything in its path, and hitting the
star, which explodes instantly.
CUT TO:

As the star disintegrates, and a massive shockwave emanates
out, at light speed, destroying everything in its path.
ACKBAR
Get us out of here!
CUT TO:

The exploding star expands outwards as the alliance ships
scatter to escape its onslaught. Some make it, but most fall
to the fiery wave.
CUT TO:
65.

As Han and Lando push the Falcon for everything she has.
Outside the viewport we see space begining to glow red.
HAN
Come on baby, you can do it.
He bashes the console.
HAN
You can do it!
CUT TO:

As the Falcon continues to accelerate, a ball of flame
behind her!
CUT TO:

All eyes on the viewport now as Space continues to redden.
We hear the WHINE of the ship as she accelerates, and then-
The starfield blurs as the Falcon makes it to hyperdrive and
leaves the system.
HAN
Woooo!
The rest join him in cheering. Deak leaves the cockpit.

As Deak walks back to where Rei is sitting on the floor,
R2D2 attending to her broken leg.
DEAK
We made it.
(A beat)
I’m sorry about your father.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 66.
REI
I’m sorry about yours.
They embrace, holding each other close.
CUT TO:

As the captain looks at the oncoming shockwave of solar
plasma. He salutes as it engulfs his ship.
As the Palpatine is engulfed and destroyed by the shockwave.

Not even her shields could withstand such a blast.
FADE TO BLACK:
131 INT. LYGIONS QUARTERS 131

FADE IN FROM BLACK to show a ’chess’ board. The largest
piece on the ’black’ side is destroyed.
LYGION
To capture your biggest pieces, I
have to sacrifice some of my own.
We see pieces from the black side suddenly move into a
superior position.
LYGION
And that’s the right way to play.
The right way to set up your end
game.
PULL UP to show who Lygion is playing against. Quiet and

impassive, but with his eyes returned to normal -- it’s
Luke!
CUT TO:
67.

As Han, Lando, Chewie, the droids, Jacen, Maya, Rei and Deak
come aboard. Leia is first to see them. She rushes to
embrace Han.
HAN
Luke...
LEIA
I know. But he’s alive. I can feel
it.
HAN
We lost-
LANDO
It was a trap. We said the only way
into that thing was a Jedi master.
JACEN
We didn’t see it.
Rei bows to her aunt slightly, but walks out without a word.
133 INT. REI’S QUARTERS - LATER 133

As Rei sits, meditating. The SOUNDS of the battle, and
ECHOES of the FUTURE sound in her quarters. Screams, and
people in pain and suffering. We hear Wedge’s last words ’I
love you, son, and may the force be with-’ before he became
engulfed in flames.
REI
It’s time.
134 INT. ALLIANCE ASSEMBLY ROOM 134

As the crew assemble in front of a monitor. Reports are
coming in from alliance worlds that are being attacked.
CHAOS of war comes across from the distressed reporters.
In the background, Rei walks in, in a black, hooded cloak
that obscures her face. She stands at a large picture window
overlooking the sea of stars beyond.
Deak walks to join her.

Jacen and Maya join them also -- overlooking their galaxy --
a galaxy suddenly engulfed in war once more.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (2) 68.
REI
The first great battle, of the last
great war, has begun.
She takes down her hood and we see war paint on her face.
It’s angular lines stand in stark contrast to the soft lines
of her face. It’s very Darth Maul in nature -- a shocking
and alarming sight in context.
Deak looks shocked when he sees her. But he understands. He

slips his hand into hers and she holds on.
135 FX. INTERCUT SCENES OF WORLDS UNDER ATTACK 135
We jump across several star systems -- core worlds of the

alliance -- to see them under attack by Star Destroyers. The
skeleton defense forces are quickly overwhelmed, and
transports fly into the atmospheres of the vanquished
planets dropping thousands of small items.
136 FX. ORBIT OF CORUSCANT 136

We see the detritus of a finished battle and a vanquished
Alliance. Cruisers burn in orbit. Transports start to drop
the same small objects.
We FOLLOW one as it enters the atmosphere. It’s a small
white pod, just big enough to hold a person.
As it gets close to the ground, breaking rockets fire to

slow its descent. It cracks open like an egg, and a Dark
Jedi leaps out, saber at the ready! We see them dropping all
over the planet, killing anything that moves.

As Lygion stands looking over Coruscant below. Monitors show
the chaos on the surface as the Dark Jedi cut through the
local defenses, and spread fear like wildfire amongst the
population.
LYGION
And just like that, your alliance
falls. The rebellion is dead.
A beat as he raises a glass to drink. We see Luke standing

beside him, bound and immobilized by some unseen force. A
tear begins to creep down his cheek.

Long Live the Empire.
...and the credits roll.

AU: A very different draft from what we had discussed. This

brings the younger members to the fore more quickly than we
had wanted -- but I think the story is stronger as a result.
I really like REI, but I’m afraid she might be taking over
the movie, but (DIR?) is that a bad thing?
AU: Running length is always an issue with these movies. I

anticipate the space battles to be long and detailed, but
didn’t write in the minutiae of them. These should be
storyboarded with FX and figured out. We’re at 70 pages, but
I anticipate a running time of 85-90 minutes depending on
how we choreograph the space battles -- this is in direct
response to some of the feedback of the prequels feeling
bloated
AU: Much of Maya and Jacen’s backstory flashbacks are cut
from this draft. They don’t add to the story but we might
need to give them more scenes.
AU: Humor is all but missing from this draft. It’s nice to
have some of the traditional Star Wars humor in here, but
I’m not very good at writing it.
AU: Need more scenes for Chewbacca and Leia. Their character
suffer most from the elevation of the younger ones.
AU: I’ve worked hard to avoid tipping the mysteries of the
3-story arc. Some of it was a bit too much in-your-face, so
I’ve tried to make it more discrete. Let me know if I’ve
given too much away.
AU: JJA likes R2. Let me know if I’ve used him enough. I
originally didn’t have him in the team that boarded the
Palpatine, and added him later -- though he doesn’t seem to
do much.
AU: Lucas veered away from showing a lot of death. PT had
’droids’ as the enemy so that we could show Jedi cutting
their enemy to pieces without annoying censors, and still
keep it child friendly. We’re not doing that. This could
easily get a PG-13 rating due to the excessive death, and
the scenes of large scale destruction. It’s a much darker
story than Star Wars fans might be used to, but darkness
worked in Episode V.
