A Revival of the 61-Month Wave Theory

by Donald A. Johnson, Ph.D.

P.O. Box 161
Kirkland, Washington 98033

The Knowles family CE-II encounter with an ovoid-shaped UFO on the

Nullarbor Plateau in Western Australia January 20th was right on
target in terms of time and place, according to the 61-month wave
cycle first proposed by Dr. David Saunders back in 1971. At least
two other UFO encounters of major importance occurred that same
night in Australia and Tasmania.

If the indications are correct and this is not an isolated incident

but the beginnings of a major UFO wave, we will have to reconsider
the significance of this long-term prediction in terms of our
ability to predict and act upon the occurrence of this and future
UFO waves.

Dr. David Saunders first noticed the regularity in major American

UFO waves (1947, 1952, 1957 and 1967) in the early months of 1971
while working with the UFOCAT computer catalog at the University of
Colorado.

He determined that what distinguished these UFO waves from other,

possibly publicity-generated UFO waves, was the shape of their
distributions.

These were waves of UFO reports in which the frequency of daily

reports began building slowly, built to a crescendo, and then
diminished rapidly. These negatively-skewed UFO waves occurred
with a periodicity of five years, or more accurately 61-months, with
an accuracy in peak prediction to within a day or so (1).

Furthermore, another characteristic of these five-year waves was the

progressively eastward movement of their loci of activity.

The first wave crested in July 1947 and occurred predominantly in

the Pacific and Mountain States. The 1952 wave reached its peak in
late August 1952 with the majority of reports coming from Midwestern
States.

Page 1

Each successive wave appeared to move approximately 30 degrees

east
in longitude.

The absence of a 1962 wave was accounted for by a search of South

American references which revealed a Brazilian and Argentinian UFO
wave in September, and the 1967 wave--which began on the Eastern
seaboard of the United States--actually crested in November of that
year in England.

Saunders was able to make his first prediction that a major UFO wave
would occur in the vicinity of 30 degrees East longitude and peak in
December 1972 over a year prior to its occurrence.

This prediction was borne out by the occurrence of a UFO wave in

South Africa in late November. However, most ufologists lost
interest in the theory when the predicted waves for 1977-78 and 1983
failed to materialize (so far as we can tell).

Both of these waves should have occurred in countries controlled

predominantly by governments unfriendly to the West.

Saunders continues to have faith in the theory and has offered a

consistent, convincing response to critics: that it is unfair to
judge the merits of the theory on what we may or may not hear about
from the Soviet Union.

According to calculations (see table below), the next great UFO wave
should occur between now and the beginning of March, centered at 120
degrees East longitude. The Nullarbor Plain is at approximately 127
degrees East longitude.
The wave should also unfold in the same characteristic manner as the
earlier waves, building slowly in intensity in the number of daily
reports and diminishing rapidly after reaching a peak.

A corrollary to the Saunders' spatio-temporal wave theory is that

physical evidence cases should occur at approximately the same time
world-wide; thus, if the Australian close encounters continue to
occur during the pre-dawn hours, we should expect U.S. CE-II cases
to occur in the evening hours between 4 and 10 p.m., since the
United States and Australia have a time difference of some 8 to 11
hours.

We shall soon see if new evidence merits the revival of an old

theory.

Vangard Note

We received a call from a fellow working in GUAM...he had

a photocopy of the 61CYCLE article and had projected the
next UFO flap to occur in that region of the world.
So, there is now a worldmap (61CYCLE.GIF) showing all the
cycles from 1947 to what should follow for 1993 and 1998.

Note, the flaps are projected to occur every 5 years

(61 months) and at 30 degree longitude intervals as they
cross the globe. They are not exact.

The fellow who called wondered if any person or group

might wish to monitor this area to collect data in the
event this cycle can be predicted.

UFO Landing and Government Intercept

Hi there. My name is Ed Sanborn and I'm the MUFON State

Director for Mass. I received the following in the mail from a
member of the LIUFON on Friday Nov. 24, 1989: LONG ISLAND U.F.O.
NETWORK P.O. BOX 232 Center Moriches, New York 11934 HOTLINE
(516) 286-3212 A NON- PROFIT RESEARCH ORGANIZATION.

PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE COPY

The Long Island UFO Network, Inc., a non-profit research

organization based on Long Island, announces to the media of the
Metropolitan area and the Nation that we have evidence that on
September 28, 1989 the United States Armed Forces attempted to
recover a disabled, or landed UFO. The incident occured on the
Dune Area of Smith's Point Beach near the entrance to the Moriches
Bay.
Military and Suffolk County Police Helicopters were involved in
an apparent attempt to monitor the craft on the Beach. A second
object estimated to be 574 feet to a thousand feet long was
observed hovering over the Bay. It was composed of six
tremendously large lights.

The helicopters (six involved) were composed of four military

helicopters and two Suffolk County Police Helicopters. These
helicopters surrounded the large object (commonly referred to as a
mother ship) in a circular rotation passing around this object in
a counter clockwise flight, the helicopters would then fly over
the second downed object in the dunes.

As this manuever was completed, the area would be illuminated

by the helicopters searchlights in an attempt to illuminate what
was on the ground.

Long Island UFO Network, Inc. has interviewed the eyewitnesses

to this event. The family lives in Center Noriches Long Island.
The husband, wife, and their adult son observed the large object
from their backyard in response to military helicopter overflights
of their home.

The husband and son drove to the Union Ave. dock and for two
and a half hours observed the operation.

The witnesses described the operation to LIUFON investigators'

under the provision their identities and address be held in the
strictest confidentiality. For their protection they were
interviewed on tape under fictitious identities and addresses. The
husband's taped interview is available to the media for
examination with permission of the witness.

The case is under further investigation by LIUFON

investigators. As more information develops it will be released to
the media. The case will be discussed at our forthcoming
conference on October 29th in Middle Island, NY at the Artist Lake
Condominium Center.

There exists 48 photographs of this occurence taken by the

eyewitnesses. They have been impounded by LIUFON for scientific
evaluation. As soon as tests are finished they will be presented
to the public on the Joel Martin Cable TV Show on cablevision at a
date to be announced.
We call upon the FAA, Suffolk County Police and the United
States Government to comment on this. Did they have UFO's over
Moriches Bay on Sept. 28, 1989 between 8:45 P.M. to 11:30 P.M. and
were they monitoring it? LIUFON demands to know, the public
demands to know and the World demands to know.

NO NEWSPAPER has yet secured the truth behind the

operation known as
ALTERNATIVE 3. Investigations by journalists have been
blocked by
governments on both sides of the Iron Curtain. American and
Russia are
ruthlessly obsessed with guarding their shared secret and
this
obsession, as we can now prove, has made them partners in
murder.

However, despite this intensive security, fragments of information

have
been made public. Often they are released inadvertently by
experts who
do not appreciate their sinister significance and these fragments,
in
isolation, mean little. But when jigsawed together they form a
definite
pattern, a pattern which appears to emphasize the enormity of
this
conspiracy of silence.

On May 3, 1977, the Daily Mirror published this story:

President Jimmy Carter has joined the ranks of UFO spotters.

He
sent in two written reports stating he had seen a flying saucer
when he was the Governor of Georgia.
The President has shrugged off the incident since then,
perhaps
fearing that electors might be wary of a flying saucer freak.

But he was reported as saying after the "sighting"; "I don't

laugh
at people any more when they say they've seen UFOs
because I've
seen one myself."

Carter described his UFO like this: "Luminous, not solid, at first
bluish, then reddish...it seemed to move towards us from
a
distance, stopped, then moved partially away."

Carter filed two reports on the sighting in 1973, one to the

International UFO Bureau and the other to the National
Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena.

Heydon Hewes, who directs the International UFO Bureau

from his
home in Oklahoma City, is making speeches praising the
President's
"open-mindedness."

But during his presidential campaign last year Carter was

cautious. He admitted he had seen a light in the sky but
declined to call it a UFO.

He joked: "I think it was a light beckoning me to run in the

California primary election."

Why this change in Carter's attitude? Because, by then, he had

been
briefed on Alternative 3?

A 1966 Gallup Poll showed that five million Americans including

several
highly experienced airline pilots claimed to have seen Flying
Saucers.
Fighter pilot Thomas Mantell has already died while chasing one
over
Kentucky his F.51 aircraft having disintegrated in the violent wash
of
his quarry's engines.

The U.S. Air Force, reluctantly bowing to mounting pressure,

asked Dr.
Edward Uhler Condon, a professor of astrophysics, to head
an
investigation team at Colorado University.

Condon's budget was $500,000. Shortly before his report

appeared in
1968, this story appeared in the London Evening Standard:

The Condon st dy is making headlines, but for all the

wrong
reasons. It is losing some of its outstanding members,
under
circumstances which are mysterious to say the least.
Sinister
rumors are circulating...at least four key people have
vanished
from the Condon team without offering a satisfactory reason
for
their departure.

The complete story behind the strange events in Colorado is

hard
to decipher. But a clue, at last may be found in the recent
statements of Dr. James McDonald, the senior physicist at
the
Institute of Atmospheric Physics at the University of Arizona
and widely respected in his field.
In a wary, But ominous, telephone conversation this week,
Dr.
McDonald told me that he is "most distressed."
Condon's 1,485-page report denied the existence of Flying
Saucers
and a panel of the American National Academy of Sciences
endorsed
the conclusion that "further extensive study probably cannot
be
justified."

But, curiously, Condon's joint principal investigator, Dr. David

Saunders, had not contributed a word to that report. And on
January 11,
1969, the Daily Telegraph quoted Dr. Saunders as saying of the
report:

"It is inconceivable that it can be anything but a cold stew. No

matter how long it is, what it includes, how it is said, or what
it recommends, it will lack the essential element of credibility."

Already there were wide spread suspicions that the Condon

investigation
had been part of an official coverup, that the government knew the
truth
but was determined to keep it from the public. We now know that
those
suspicions were accurate. And that the secrecy was all
because of
Alternative 3.

Only a few months after Dr. Saunders made his "cold stew"
statement a
journalist with the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch embarrassed the
National
Aeronautics and Space Agency by photographing a strange craft
looking
exactly like a Flying Saucer-at the White Sands missile range in
New
Mexico.

At first no one at NASA would talk about this mysterious circular

craft,
15 feet in diameter, which had been left in the "missile graveyard"
a
section of the range where most experimental vehicles were
eventually
dumped.

But the Martin Marietta company of Denver, where it was

built,
acknowledged designing several models, some with ten and twelve
engines.
And a NASA official, faced with this information, said:

"Actually the engineers used to call it 'The Flying Saucer.' "

That confirmed a statement made by Dr. Garry Henderson, a

leading space
research scientist:

"All our astronauts have seen these objects but have been
ordered
not to discuss their findings with anyone."

Otto Binder was a member of the NASA space team. He has

stated that
NASA "killed" significant segments of conversation between
Mission
Control and Apollo 11, the spacecraft which took Buzz Aldrin and
Neil
Armstrong to the Moon and that those segments were deleted
from the
official record:

"Certain sources with their own VHF receiving facilities that by

passed NASA broadcast outlets claim there was a portion of
Earth
Moon dialogue that was quickly cut off by the NASA
monitoring
staff."

Binder added:

"It was presumably when the two moon walkers, Aldrin and
Armstrong, were making the round some distance from the
LEM that
Armstrong clutched Aldrin's arm excitedly and exclaimed
'What was
it? What the hell was it? That's all I want to know.' "

Then, according to Binder, there was this exchange:

MISSION CONTROL: What's

there?...malfunction(garble)...Mission Control
calling Apollo 11...

APOLLO 11: These babies were huge, sir...enormous..Oh, God

you wouldn't
believe it!...I'm telling you there are other space-craft
out there...lined up on the far side of the crater
edge...they're on the Moon watching us...

NASA, understandably, has never confirmed Binder's story but

Buzz Aldrin
was soon complaining bitterly about the Agency having used him
as a
"traveling salesman."

And two years after his Moon mission, following reported bouts of
heavy
drinking, he was admitted to hospital with "emotional depression."

"Traveling salesman"...that's an add choice of words, isn't it?

What,
in Aldrin's view, were the NASA authorities trying to sell? And
to
whom? Could it be that they were using him, and others like
him, to
sell their official version of the truth to ordinary people right across
the world?

Was Aldrin's Moon walk one of those great spectaculars,

presented with
maximum publicity, to justify the billions being poured into
space
research?

Was it part of the American Russian cover for Alternative 3?

All men who have travelled to the Moon have given indications of
knowing
about Alternative 3 and of the reasons which precipitated it.

In May, 1972, James Irwin, officially the sixth man to walk on the
Moon,
resigned to become a Baptist missionary. And he said then:

"The flight made me a deeper religious person and more

keenly
aware of the fragile nature of our planet."

Edgar Mitchell, who landed on the Moon with the Apollo 14

mission in
February, 1971, also resigned in May, 1972 to devote himself
to
parapsychology. Later, at the headquarters of his Institute for
noetic
Sciences near San Francisco, he described looking at this world
from the
Moon:

"I went into a very deep pathos, a kind of anguish. That

incredibly beautiful planet that was Earth.. a place no bigger
than my thumb was my home.. a blue and white jewel
against a
velvet black sky...was being killed off."

And on March 23, 1974, he was quoted in the Daily Express as

saying that
society had only three ways in which to go and that the third was
"the
most viable but most difficult alternative."
Another of the Apollo Moon walkers, Bob Grodin, was equally
specific
when interviewed by a Sceptre Television reporter on June 20,
1977;

"You think they need all that crap down in Florida just to put
two
guys up there on a...on a bicycle? The hell thy do! You
know
why they need us? So they've got a P.R. story for all that
hardware they've been firing into space. We're nothing,
man!
Nothing!"

On July 11, 1977, the Los Angeles Times came near to the heart
of the
matter-nearer than any other newspaper when it published a
remarkable
interview with Dr. Gerard O'Neill.

Dr. O'Neill is a Princeton professor who served, during a

1976
sabbatical, as Professor of Aerospace at the Massachusetts
Institute of
Technology and who gets nearly $500,000 each year in
research grants
from NASA. Here is a section from that article:

The United Nations, he says, has conservatively estimated that

the
world's population, now more than 4 billion people, will grow
to
about 6.5 billion by the 2000. Today, he adds, about 30% of
the
world's population is in developed nations. But, because most
of
the projected population growth will occur in
underdeveloped
countries, that will drop to 22% by the end of the century. The
world of 2000 will be poorer and hungrier than the world today,
he
says.

Dr. O'Neill also explained the problems caused by the earth's

4,000 mile
atmospheric layer but presumably because the article was
comparatively
short one he was not quoted on the additional threat posed by
the
notorious "greenhouse" syndrome.

His solution? He called it Island 3. And he added: "There's no

debate
about the technology involved in doing it. That's been confirmed
by
NASA's top people."

But Dr. O'Neill, a family man with three children who like to fly
sailplanes in his spare time, did not realize that he was slightly off
target. He was right, of course, about the technology.

But he knew nothing of the political ramifications and he would

have
been astounded to learn that NASA was feeding his research
to the
Russians.

Even eminent political specialists, as respected in their sphere as

Dr.
O'Neill is in his own, have been puzzled by an undercurrent they
have
detected in East West relationships.

Professor G. Gordon Broadbent, director of the independently

financed
Institute of Political Studies in London and author of a major study
of
U.S. Soviet diplomacy since the 1950s, emphasized that fact on
June 20,
1977, when he was interviewed on Sceptre Television:

"On the broader issue of Soviet U.S. relations, I must admit

there
is an element of mystery which troubles many people in my
field."

He added: "What we're suggesting is that, at the very highest

levels of
East West diplomacy, there has been operating a factor
of
which we know nothing. Now it could just be-and I stress
the
word 'could' that this unknown factor is some kind of
massive
but covert operation in space. But as for the reasons
behind
it...we are not in the business of speculation."

Washington's acute discomfort over O'Neill's revelations through

the Los
Angeles Times can be assessed by the urgency with which a
"suppression"
Bill was rushed to the Statute Book.

On July 27, 1977 only sixteen days after publication of the

O'Neill
interview columnist Jeremy Campbell reported in the London
Evening
Standard that the Bill would become law that September. He
wrote:

It prohibits the publishing of an official report without

permission, arguing that this obstructs the Government's
control
of its own information. That was precisely the charge
brought
against Daniel Ellsberg for giving the Pentagon papers to the
New
York Times.
Most ominous of all, the Bill would make it a crime for any
present of former civil servant to tell the Press of Government
wrong doing or pass on any news based on information
"submitted to
the Government in private."

Campbell pointed out that this final clause "has given serious pain
to
guardians of American Press freedom because it creates a
brand new
crime." Particularly as there was provision in the Bill for offending
journalists to be sent to prison for up to six years.

We subsequently discovered that a man called Harman Leonard

Harman read
that item in the newspaper and that later, in a certain television
executives' dining room, he expressed regret that a similar Law
had not
been passed years earlier by the British government.

He was eating treacle tart with custard at the time and he

reflected
wistfully that he could then have insisted on such a Law being
obeyed.
That, when it came to Alternative 3, would have saved him from a
great
deal of trouble...

He had chosen treacle tart, not because he particularly liked it,

but
because it was 2p(ence) cheaper than the chocolate sponge.
That was
typical of Harman.

He was one of the people, as you may have learned already

through the
Press, who tried to interfere with the publication of this book.
We
will later be presenting some of the letters received by us from him
and
his lawyers together with the replies from our legal advisers.

We decided to print these letters in order to give you a

thorough
insight into our investigation for it is important to stress that we,
like Professor Broadbent, are not in the "business of speculation."
We are interested only in the facts.

And it is intriguing to note the pattern of facts relating to astronauts

who have been on Moon missions and who have therefore been
exposed to
some of the surprises presented by Alternative 3.

A number, undermined by the strain of being party to such a

horrendous
secret, suffered nervous or mental collapses. A high percentage
sought
sanctuary in excessive drinking or in extramarital affairs which
destroyed what had been secure and successful marriages.

Yet these were men originally picked from many thousands

precisely
because of their stability. Their training and experience,
intelligence
and physical fitness all these, of course, were prime
considerations in
their selection. But the supremely important quality was their
balanced
temperament.

It would need something stupendous, something almost

unimaginable to
most people, to flip such men into dramatic personality changes.
That
something, we have now established, was Alternative 3 and,
perhaps more
particularly, the night marish obscenities involved in the
development
and perfection of Alternative 3.

We are not suggesting that the President of the United States

has had
personal knowledge of the terror and clinical cruelties which have
been
an integral part of the Operation, for that would make him
directly
responsible for murders and barbarous mutilations.

We are convinced, in fact, that this is not the case. The President
and
the Russian leader, together with their immediate subordinates,
have
been concerned only with broad sweep of policy.

They have acted in unison to ensure what they consider to be the

best
possible future for mankind. And the day to day details have
been
delegated to high level professionals.

These professionals, we have now established, have been

classifying
people selected for the Alternative 3 operation into two categories:

those who are picked as individuals and those who merely form
part
of a "batch consignment."

There have been several "batch consignments" and it is the

treatment
meted out to most of these men and women which provides the
greatest
cause for outrage.

No matter how desperate the circumstances may be-and we

reluctantly
recognize that they are extremely desperate no humane society
could
tolerate what has been done to the innocent and the gullible.

That view, fortunately, was taken by one man who was recruited
into the
Alternative 3 team three years ago. He was, at first, highly
enthusiastic and completely dedicated to the Operation.
However, he
became revolted by some of the atrocities involved. He did not
consider
that, even in the prevailing circumstances, they could be
justified.

Three days after the transmission of that sensational

television
documentary, his conscience finally goaded him into action. He
knew the
appalling risk he was taking, for he was aware of what had
happened to
others who had betrayed the secrets of Alternative 3, but he
made
telephone contact with television reporter Colin Benson and
offered to
provide Benson with evidence of the most astounding nature.

He was calling, he said, from abroad but he was prepared to

travel to
London. They met two days later. And he then explained to
Benson that
copies of most orders and memoranda, together with transcripts
prepared
from tapes of Policy Committee meetings, were filed in triplicate
in
Washington, Moscow and Geneva where Alternative 3 had its
operational
headquarters.

The system had been instituted to ensure there was no

misunderstanding
between the principal partners. He occasionally had access to
some of
that material although it was often weeks or even months old
before he
saw it and he was willing to supply what he could to Benson. He
wanted
no money. He merely wanted to alert the public, to help stop the
mass
atrocities.

Benson's immediate reaction, after he had assessed the value

of this
offer, was that Sceptre should mount a follow up programme one
which
would expose the horrors of Alternative 3 in far greater depth.

He argued bitterly with his superiors at Sceptre but they were

adamant.
The company was already in serious trouble with the government
and there
was some doubt about whether its licence would be renewed.
They refused
to consider the possibility of doing another programme. They
had
officially disclaimed the Alternative 3 documentary as a hoax and
that
was where the matter had to rest.

Anyway, they pointed out, this character who'd come forward was
probably
a nut...If you saw the documentary, you will probably realize
that
Benson is a stubborn man. His friends say he is pig obstinate.
They
also say he is a first class investigative journalist.

He was angry about this attempt to suppress the truth and that is
why he
agreed to co-operate in the preparation of this book. That co-
operation
has been invaluable.
Through Benson we met the telephone caller who we now refer
to as
Trojan. And that meeting resulted in our acquiring documents,
which we
will be presenting, including transcripts of tapes made at the
most
secret rendezvous in the world, thirty five fathoms beneath the ice
cap
of the Arctic.

For obvious reasons, we cannot reveal the identity of Trojan. Nor

can
we give any hint about his function or status in the Operation.

We are completely satisfied, however, that his credentials are

authentic
and that, in breaking his oath of silence, he is prompted by the
most
honourable of motives.

He stands in relation to the Alternative 3 conspiracy in much the

same
position as the anonymous informant "Deep Throat" occupied
in the
Watergate affair. Most of the "batch consignments" have been
taken from
the area known as the Bermuda Triangle but numerous other
locations have
also been used.

On October 6, 1975, the Daily Telegraph gave prominence to this

story:

The disappearance in bizarre circumstances in the past two

weeks
of 20 people from small coastal communities in Oregon was
being
intensively investigated at the weekend amid reports of an
imaginative fraud scheme involving a "flying saucer" and hints
of
mass murder.

Sheriff's officers at Newport, Oregon, said that the 20

individuals had vanished without trace after being told to give
away all their possessions, including their children, so that they
could be transported in a flying saucer "by UFO to a better
life.

"Deputies under Mr. Ron Sutton, chief criminal investigator

in
surrounding Lincoln County, have traced the story back to
a
meeting on September 14 in a resort hotel, the Bayshore Inn
at
Waldport, Oregon...Local police have received conflicting
reports
as to what occurred (at the meeting).

But while it is clear that the speaker did not pretend to be from
outer space, he told the audience how their souls could be
"saved
through a UFO.

"The hall had been reserved for a fee of $50 by a man and a
woman
who gave false names. Mr. Sutton said witnesses had
described
them as "fortyish, well groomed, straight types.

"The Telegraph said that "selected people would be prepared

at a
special camp in Colorado for life on another planet" and
quoted
Investigator Sutton as adding:

"They were told they would have to give away everything,

even
their children. I'm checking a report of one family who
supposedly gave away 150-acre farm and three children.
"We don't know if it's fraud or whether these people might
be
killed. There are all sorts of rumours, including some about
human sacrifice and that this is sponsored by the (Charles)
Manson
family.

"Most of the missing 20 were described as being "hippie

types"
although there were some older people among them.

People of this calibre, we have now discovered, have been what is

known
as "scientifically adjusted" to fit them for a new role as a slave
species.

There have been equally strange reports of animals particularly

farm
animals disappearing in large numbers. And occasionally it
appears that
aspects of the Alternative 3 operation have been bungled, that
attempts
to lift "batch consignments" of humans or of animals have failed.

On July 15, 1977, the Daily Mail under a "Flying Saucer"

headline
carried this story:

Men in face masks, using metal detectors and a geiger

counter,
yesterday scoured a remote Dartmoor valley in a bid to solve
a
macabre mystery. Their search centred on marshy grassland
where
15 wild ponies were found dead, their bodies mangled and
torn.

All appeared to have died at about the same time, and many
of the
bones have been inexplicably shattered. To add to the
riddle,
their bodies decomposed to virtual skeletons within only 48
hours.

Animal experts confess they are baffled by the deaths at

Cherry
Brook Valley near Postbridge.

Yesterday's search was carried out by members of the

Devon
Unidentified Flying Objects centre at Torquay who are trying
to
prove a link with outer space.

They believe that flying saucers may have flown low over the
area
and created a vortex which hurled the ponies to their
death.Mr.
John Wyse, head of the four man team, said:

"If a spacecraft has been in the vicinity, there may still be

detectable evidence. We wanted to see if there was any sign
that
the ponies had been shot but we have found nothing. This
incident
bears an uncanny resemblance to similar events reported
in
America."

The Mail report concluded with a statement from an official

representing
The Dartmoor Livestock Protection Society and the Animal
Defence
Society:

"Whatever happened was violent. We are keeping an open

mind. I
am fascinated by the UFO theory. There is no reason to
reject
that possibility since there is no other rational explanation."

These, then, were typical of the threads, which inspired the

original
television investigation. It needed one person, however, to show
how
they could be embroidered into a clear picture.

Without the specialist guidance of that person the Sceptre

television
documentary could never have been produced-and Trojan would
never have
contacted Colin Benson.

And it would have been years, possibly seven years or even

longer,
before ordinary people started to suspect the devastating truth
about
this planet on which we live. That person, of course, is the old
man...

Section 2

THEY Realize now that they should have killed the old man.

That would have been the logical course to protect the secrecy
of
Alternative 3. It is curious, really, that they did not agree to his
death on that Thursday in February for, as we have stated, they
do use
murder.

Of course, it is not called murder not when it is done jointly by the

governments of America and Russia. It is an Act of Expediency.

Many Acts of Expediency are believed to have been ordered by the

sixteen
men, official representatives of the pentagon and the Kremlin,
who
comprise the Policy Committee.
Grotesque and apparently inexplicable slayings in various parts of
the
world in Germany and Japan, Britain and Australia are alleged to
have
been sanctioned by them.

We have not been able to substantiate these suspicions and

allegations
so we merely record that an unknown number of people
including
distinguished radio astronomer Sir William Ballantine have been
executed
because of this astonishing agreement between the super-powers.

Prominent politicians, including two in Britain, were among those

who
tried to prevent the publication of this book. They insisted that it is
not necessary for you, and others like you, to be told the
unpalatable
facts.

They argue that the events of the future are now inevitable, that
there
is nothing to be gained by prematurely unleashing fear.

We concede that they are sincere in their views but we maintain

that you
ought to know. You have a right to know.

Attemps were also make to neuter the television programme

which first
focused public attention on Alternative 3. Those attemps were
partially
successful. And, of course, after the programme was transmitted
when
there was that spontaneous explosion of anxiety Septre
Television was
forced to issue a formal denial.
It had all been a hoax. That's what they were told to say. That's
what
they did say.

Most people were then only too glad to be reassured. They

wanted to be
convinced that the programme had been devised as a joke, that
it was
merely an elaborate piece of escapist entertainment. It was
more
comfortable that way.

In fact, the television researchers did uncover far more

disturbing
material than they were allowed to transmit. The censored
information is
now in our possession. And, as we have indicated, there was a
great deal
that Benson and the rest of the television team did not discover,
not
until after there programme had been screened.

***** Dreamland (aka Area 51-1.ASC) *****

November 11, 1989
ParaNet Information Service (Denver, CO)--This evening
saw
perhaps an unprecedented event in UFOlogy. KLAS-TV in Las
Vegas,
Nevada has been airing a UFO special during the evening
news
which began on Monday dealing with the UFO mystery and
cover-up.

The series, which has been covered by ParaNet, began

its
coverage with a history of UFOs beginning in the late 1940s
and
moving forward through the numerous sighting reports to
the
cattle mutilations, which was aired last evening. As promised
at the close of last evening's show, George Knapp, a
news
anchorman for Channel 8 in Vegas, stated that a scientific
person would be featured on tonight's program who has
claimed to
work at Area 51, the government's super-secret test range
at
Nevada Test Site at Mercury, Nevada.

Indeed, quite a story was told by Robert Lazar, a physicist

who claimed that he had worked on a project at Area 51
involving flying disks provided by alien intelligences.

Over the last year, ParaNet has carried stories relating to

possible involvement with the government in projects of
this
nature at the Nevada test site. Up to now, the stories have
been
of a very speculative nature. Although the material presented
by
Robert Lazar remains unconfirmed, enough information has
been
disclosed that ParaNet's large investigative staff in Nevada
has
started an intensive investigation into this release. Both Lazar
(formerly known only as "Dennis") and Lear have appeared
on
Channel 8 -- Lear appearing on numerous occasions together
will
Bill Cooper discussing Lear's famous 'ET Hypothesis.'

On a past KLAS-TV report, Lear was shown to have

traveled
to locations appearing to overlook the test site which
purportedly provided a good view of the objects as they
flew
into the night sky. Lear attempted to shoot video of an
object
as it maneuvered through the night sky during last
summer,
however nothing was captured on the tape of a
substantive
nature. Lear also relates that his group was harassed by
a
Lincoln County sheriff following his attempts to take the
pictures.

Below is a transcript of the program that aired this

evening. All paragraphs out of quotes are the narrator of the
segment. We were as accurate as possible on the
transcription,
however there are a couple of places where comments were
edited
out due to inability to understand what was being said.

Further reports will be provided as information becomes

available.

====================================================
=============
We've been working on the story for some time....UFO
researchers claim that there is a secret government within
our
government. Now this may be hard to believe coming from
the UFO
perspective, but we have learned that Watergate and the
Iran
Contra scandal that factions within our government can and
do
pursue their own hidden agendas outside of the law; outside
the
control of the Congress or the knowledge of the American
people.
This is exactly the type of operation that we hear about
tonight.
It's a chilling scenario with worldwide implications that may
have its roots right here [Las Vegas, Nevada].

Area 51, that mysterious corner of the Nevada Test Site, is

no longer considered a secret. The fact that secretive things
go on here isn't evident; even to the Soviets who make daily
spy
flights over the facility to take a peek at what's going on.
These photos, never before shown in public, are about as
close as
anyone will ever come to seeing what the place looks like
again.
The dry bed at Groom Lake, the corrugated buildings, a three-
mile
long runway and some highly sophisticated radar and
detection
equipment. Its been known by many names over the years
--
Dreamland; The Ranch; The Skunk Works. If ever there was a
place
to test the secret new technology, this is it. And that's
exactly what has been done here for decades.
Area 51 is where Francis Gary Powers and the other U-2
pilots were trained in the 50s. And, where the U-2 itself was
developed. The SR-71 spy plane that spotted Soviet missiles
in
Cuba in the early 60s were also developed at 51. 51 is
where
Stealth technology was nurtured, where Star Wars devices
are
still tested, and where all manner of CIA [unknown] business
has
been plotted and refined. It's the perfect place for secret
things, but of course, that's no secret. 51 is ringed by the
forbidden vastness of the Nevada test site; by the looming
Groom
Mountain and by sparsely populated desert expanses. But
the
people that do live out here have no love lost for the military,
but they're conservative, patriotic and they mind their own
business.

Interviewer questioning a nearby resident of Area 51:

"Ever
see something that you can't explain?"

Resident: "Sure, lots of times."

Interviewer: "Care to elaborate?"

Resident: "No." (Laughter).

On any given night at the Rachel Bar and Grill, you might
find three or four people who work at Area 51. They are
among
the flowing Budweiser and the cowboy hats. You might find
them,
but they are not going to talk to. Not about the things that
they have seen over the mountain. A steady trickle of
curiosity-
seekers flows through here; strangers, drawn by strange
stories
of lights in the night sky. Their questions also go
unanswered.
No one who has worked at Dreamland has ever publicly
acknowledged
what so many people have suspected for years: That
alien
technology is being tested in the Nevada desert.

The speculation first surfaced in documents obtained by

UFO
researchers. Documents about something called Project
Aquarius.
The document allegedly prepared for an organization called
MJ-12,
states that a program to fly recovered alien spacecraft was

established in 1972 and is continuing in Nevada. The

National
Security Agency has confirmed it does have a Project
Aquarius but
denies that it has anything to do with flying saucers. NSA will
not say what Project Aquarius is.

Speculation was heightened in 1984, when the Air Force

seized nearly 90,000 acres around Groom Lake. The action
was, by
most accounts, illegal. During Congressional hearings about
the
land grab, Congressman John Siberling grilled the military
about
the legal authority used in the action and was told the
authority
was at a much, much higher level than the Air Force.
Siberling asked what authority is higher than the laws of the
United States? The Air Force official said he could respond,
but
only in a closed briefing. In 1987, when the Air Force sought
to
renew its stranglehold on the Groom range, news articles
once
again mentioned the talk about alien spacecraft and
subsequent
articles in national magazines quoted un-named sources
about
things of alien origin flying in Nevada. Things that would
make
film-maker George Lucas drool. Despite the speculation, no
one
who knew Area 51 from the inside ever talked publicly about
the
saucer story.

Bob Lazar: "Well, there's several uh, actually nine uh flying

saucers, flying disks that are out there of extraterrestrial
origin." The live interview with the shadowy "Dennis"
drew
international attention. Portions were broadcast by radio in
six
European countries, and in a nationally televised TV special
in
Japan.

Despite numerous inquiries and "feelers," "Dennis" has

remained anonymous until now. His real name is Robert
Lazar. A
young scientist with eclectic interests. The choice of
"Dennis"
was an inside joke -- he says that's the name of his superior
at
Groom Lake. It wasn't a joke to Dennis.

Lazar: "He called right after and said, 'Do you have any idea
what we're going to do to you now?' and I said no, and he
hung up
the phone."
Lazar's story is by any standard, fantastic. He says he's
telling it in order to protect himself. He said he was hired to
work in area called S-4 which is a few miles south of Groom
Lake.
At S-4, he says, are flying saucers, anti-matter reactors and
other working examples of technology that is seemingly
beyond
human capabilities.

Lazar: "Right. This stuff came from somewhere else. I know

it
is hard to believe, but it is there and I saw it. I know what
the current state-of-the-art is in physics and it it can't be
done."

Checking out Lazar's credentials proved to be a difficult

task. He says he holds degrees in physics and electronics,
but
the schools that we contacted say they've never heard of him.
He
says he also worked as a physicist at Los Alamos
National
Labs where he worked with one of the world's largest
particle
beam accelerators, a half-mile long 'behemoth' capable of
generating seven-hundred million volts. Los Alamos
officials
told us they have no record of Robert Lazar ever working
there.
They were either mistaken or were lying. A 1982 phone book
from
the Lab lists Lazar right there among the other scientists
and
technicians. A 1982 news clipping from the Los Alamos
newspaper

profiled Lazar and his interest in jet cars. It, too, mentioned
his employment at the Lab as a physicist. We called Los
Alamos
again, and an exasperated official told us he still had no
records on Lazar. EG&G, which is where Lazar says he
was
interviewed for the job at S-4, also has no record. It's as if
someone has made him disappear.

Lazar: "Well, they're trying to make me look non-existent to

the
places that I called...."

Interviewer: "Explain. Called where?"

Lazar: "Well, the schools that I went to; the hospital that I
was born at; past jobs, and nothing comes up with my name
on it."

He smiles, but out of futility, knowing the whole thing must

sound ridiculous. According to Lazar, his employer was
the
United States Navy. He says he and other government
employees
would gather near EG&G, fly to Groom Lake, then a very few
people
would get into a bus with blacked out or no windows and
drive to
S-4.

Interviewer: "You get off the bus, what do you see?"

Lazar: "A very interesting building. Its got a slope of

probably about 30 degrees which are hangar doors, and it
has
textured paint on it, but it looks like sand. It's made to look
like the side of the mountain that it is in, whether it's to
disguise it from satellite photographs or what...."

He says he was never told exactly what he would be

working
on, but figured it had something to do with advanced
propulsion.
On his first day he was told to read a series of briefings, and
immediately realized how advanced the propulsion really was.

Lazar: "The power source is an anti-matter reactor. They

run
gravity amplifiers. There is actually two parts to the drive
mechanism. It's a bizarre technology. There is no physical
hookups between any of the systems in there. They use
gravity as
a wave using wave guides that look like microwaves."

It took awhile, Lazar says, before he actually saw one of

the flying disks, however there were hints everywhere.

Lazar: "Right. They had a poster, and it looked like a

commercial poster, like it was lithographed, like you could
buy
it at K-Mart or someplace, but they were all over the place
and
it had the disk that I coined the term 'the floor model' which
lifted off the ground about 3 feet out at the area, in the Dry
Lakes area, and the caption on it said 'They're here.' These
posters were all over the place."

Later, he got to see the real thing.

Lazar: "When I was led in, it was the first time that I saw the
'floor model' in the hangar sitting down, and I was told they
could have walked me in the front door but they purposely
wanted
to walk me by it. I was told not to say anything and to keep
my
eyes forward and walk past the disk to the office area. And I
did. And as we went by it, I just kinda stuck my hands on it,
just to run it alongside the thing and uh ....After that I got to
see actually lift off the ground and operate."
Interviewer: "You actually got to see more than one?"

Lazar: "Yeah. The hangars are all connected together.

There
are large bay doors between each one. There were nine total
that
I saw, each one being different. Like they had the
assortment
pack."

Security at S-4 was oppressive Lazar said, and his

superiors
used fear and intimidation almost as a brainwashing tool.

Lazar: "They did everything but physically hurt me."

Interviewer: "They put a gun to your head?"

Lazar: "Yeah."

Interviewer: "You mean they actually put a gun to your

head?"

Lazar: "They did that even in the original security briefing.

Guards there with M-16s. Guys there slamming their fingers
into
my chest, screaming into my ear, they were pointing
weapons at
me. Like I said, it's not a good place to work."

That fear factor would surface later. Lazar agreed to

undergo a polygraph exam as part of this report. Polygrapher
Ron
Clay asked about the technology that Lazar had seen.

Polygrapher: "Did you knowingly lie when you had actually

seen
anti-gravity propulsion in operation?"
Lazar: "No."

The results of this exam were inconclusive. Lazar

appeared
to be truthful on one test; deceitful on a second. Clay
recommended that a second examiner be brought in.
Polygrapher
Terry Tabernetti (sp?) runs a corporate security operation and
is
a former Los Angeles police officer. He put Lazar through
four
tests and concluded there were no attempts to deceive.

Tabernetti sent his test results to a third polygrapher who

agreed the results appeared truthful. The charts were then
sent
to a fourth examiner who did not agree suggesting that
Lazar
might be relating information he'd learned from someone
else.
The polygraphers concurred and decided they would not
issue a
final statement on truthfulness until more specific testing
can
be conducted. And that's where it stands.

Tabernetti believes the difficulty in determining Lazar's

truthfulness stems from the fear that was drilled into him.

Lazar: "Well, I am telling the truth. I've tried to prove that.

What's going on up there could be the most important event
in
history. You're talking about contact, physical contact and
proof from another planet, another system, another
intelligence.
Thats got to be the biggest event in history, period. And, it's
real and it's there. And I had an extremely small part in it.
I'm convinced that what I saw is absolute proof of that.
There
is no way that we could have created those disks. There is
no
way we could have made the disks, the power supplies,
anything
that goes with it."

Lazar says he has no intention of going on any UFO

lecture

circuit. He is not looking to do any additional interviews. In

fact, he was not too crazy about doing this one. He did it after
certain unfavorable things started happening in his life, and
he
did it because he feels that whoever is running the show up at
S-
4 is perpetrating a fraud on the American people and the
scientific community.

ParaNet Information Service (Denver, CO) -- In our

continuing coverage of the remarkable revelations coming
out of
Las Vegas, Nevada, here is the next installment to the
program
aired on November 13, 1989 by television station KLAS-TV
and
George Knapp.

====================================================
=============

News Anchor persons:

A former government scientist has alleged that the U.S.

military is flying recovered UFOs at a secret base in the
Nevada
desert. The allegations about the secret facility near the
Groom
Mountains first surfaced on Eyewitness News on last
Friday
[November 10, 1989].

Scientist Bob Lazar says that there are at least nine of the
flying saucers being tested and that they were not built on
Earth. George Knapp has more on the continuation of our
series
on UFOs.

Lazar: "Yeah. It was obvious it came from somewhere else,

uh,
other than Earth."
Scientist Bob Lazar was convinced that the technology he
saw
being tested at a secret base in the Nevada desert is of alien
origin, and for Lazar the proof is, at least, partially in the
furniture. One of the nine flying disks he says he saw at the
base, which was designated S-4, looks exactly like this
UFO
photographed in Europe [Photo of UFO shown]. Lazar
called it
the "sport model."

Lazar: "I gave everything names -- the top hat one and you
know
the jello mold and, uh, the sport model operated without
any
hitches at all. I mean, it looked new. If I knew what a new
flying saucer looked like. One of them looked like it was hit
with some sort of a projectile. It had a large hole in the
bottom and a large hole in the top with the metal bent out like
some sort of, you know, large caliber 4 or 5 inch had gone
through it."

Even before he saw the sport model operate, Lazar says,

he
suspected that the ship came from somewhere else.
The
realization slapped him in the face the first time he glimpsed
the inside of the disk.

Lazar: "I got to look inside and it had really small chairs. I
think that was the first confirmation I had. That was just a

shocking thing because everytime before that I was able to

label
it. This is just a little advance that a group of scientists had
formed and, you know, they're keeping it secret, and yeah,
we
could have built a big disk like that, and yeah, that's no
problem, and, you know, we could have adapted the use(?) to
make
it fly, but why does it have little furniture inside? [garbled].
And things began to click together just all too fast."

A few of the disks had been completely dismantled to

find
out how they worked, Lazar says, but others were fully
operational. A Japanese TV network created this animated
version
of Lazar's story after his first interview with us aired in May
[showing video]. Lazar says the dramatization is similar to a
test flight he witnessed.

Lazar: "The bottom of it glowed blue and began to hiss like

any,
like high voltage does on a round sphere. It's my
impression
that the reason that they're round and have no sharp edges is
to
contain the high voltage like, uh, if you've seen a high voltage
system's insulators -- things are round or else you get a
corona
discharge. In either case, it began to hiss as in high voltage
and it lifted off the ground quietly except for that little hiss
in the background, and that stopped as soon as it reached
about
20 or 30 feet."

Lazar says the test of the sport model was a short one --
that it made only a few moves before setting back down.
He
didn't see who was actually flying the craft, but was very
impressed, nonetheless.

Lazar: "Well, there's no action reaction system to it. There's

no, like in a jet engine, exhaust gas being thrown out -- no
propeller, no noise. It's just, for all intents and purposes,
magic."
To Lazar's knowledge, the flying disks are not being used,
for say, any flights to Jupiter. He said excessive caution and
intense secrecy contributed to the plodding pace of the
program
and were a main source of his disenchantment.

Lazar: "It's just unfair, outright, not to put it in the hands

of the overall scientific community. There are people much
more
capable of dealing with this information, and by this time
would
have gotten a lot further along than this small select group of
people working out in the middle of the desert. They don't
even
have the facilities, really, to completely analyze what they're
dealing with."

Gene Huff: "Well he was being quiet. If he kept me abreast

of
anything, he kept me abreast of the security checks --
they'd
randomly drop by his house. They'd threaten his life; they'd
threaten his wife's life. They had done all that so we really
didn't converse, I mean, he really was adhering to the
program."

Gene Huff is a Las Vegas real estate appraiser. A regular

guy who just happens to have a friend in the flying saucer
business. He learned about Lazar's S-4 experiences only after
a
long period. Lazar is anxious for people to know that he
didn't
just run right out and spill the secrets of the universe, and
that some things are properly kept confidential.

Lazar: "I did not believe that this should be a security matter.
Some of it, sure. But, just the concept that there's definite
proof, and uh, we even have articles from another world,
another
system, you just can't not tell everyone. A lot of people don't
believe that. But, I do."

When he reached what he felt was his bursting point, he

took
Huff and a few others to the edge of the Groom Mountains to
see
the flights for themselves. A total of five witnesses on two
consecutive weeks managed to dodge security patrols long
enough
to see the strange glowing object lift above the mountain.

Huff(?): "Uh, it came up above the same mountain. It

moved
around. It did a step move -- it actually went up in the air
like this [showing details with hands] and it hovered then
dropped way down then it just floated around and cruised
around.
It starts coming up the mountain range...."

This home video tape was recorded during one of the trips
to
the Groom Mountains [showing video tape. A lot of
talking....Object in sight....Mention of brightness of the
object....].

Admittedly, the tape proves very little by itself because,

with the distance and darkness, there are no reference
points
other than the alleged flying disk, but Lazar's information
about
the time and location of the test flight proves correct -- not
once but twice. That, according to our off-camera
interviews
with each of the other witnesses. Gene Huff describes his
second
sighting:

Huff: "Through the telescope we could see an elliptical-

shaped
light. You can only get so close even with a telescope to a
secure facility. Anyway, it came up by us very rapidly. It
glowed and glows brighter like a star and we almost got
the
feeling that it was going to explode, it glowed so brightly. We
backed up behind the car then it went down and glowed back
up a
little bit and then very softly glided back over, back where the
mountains where it came up, hovered for awhile, and then
that's
that....Just like you see in the movies."

Bob Lazar isn't the only person to claim "inside

knowledge"
of the flying disks at the test site -- he is just the only
person to say so publicly. We have communicated with
several
people who say they know of the saucer program. A
technician in
a highly sensitive position told us it is "common knowledge
among
those with high security clearances that recovered alien
disks
are stored at the Nevada test site." A Las Vegas
professional,
who once served in the military and was stationed at the
test
site, said he saw a flying disk land outside the boundaries of
Area 51 -- that it was quickly surrounded by security
personnel
and that he was taken away and debriefed for several hours.
A
man who once worked at Groom Lake as a technician, at
our
request, wrote this letter explaining how he inadvertently
walked
into the wrong hangar and saw what appeared to be a
large
metallic disk under a tarp. It was being examined by men in
lab
coats. And, an airman who worked at Nellis at a radar
installation says he and his fellow servicemen watched over
a
period of five nights, unusual objects flying over the
Groom
Mountains. He says the radar images indicates the objects
zoomed
into range at speeds of 7,000 miles per hour and then would
stop
on a dime, and that nothing we have is capable of doing
that.
The airman says that when word of his sighting got out, he
was

ordered to turn off his radar sensors for that area and told to
keep quiet about the matter because it did not happen.

None of this means that the military is actually flying

alien spacecraft in the Nevada desert. It could all perhaps be
explained as some other secret program. Lazar insists that's
not
the case.

We put the matter to the U.S. Navy, which according to

Lazar, is running the saucer show. Four different naval
offices
were contacted. All denied having any information in their
files. The Naval Research Lab said it conducted a
thorough
search but found "zip." Naval Intelligence said much the
same
thing, adding, it is not required to create a file where one
doesn't exist. A side note: We also requested files on a
UFO
sighting over Tremonton, Utah in 1952. The Navy spent more
than
a thousand hours studying film of that sighting -- a fact that's
been noted in several publications -- but, for purposes of
our
request, the Navy couldn't find those files either.

Lazar: "The group that runs this project, whether it really is

the Navy or they just say that, apparently these people
have
executive power -- they don't report to anyone."

Tomorrow, more troubling allegations of the military

potential of alien technology.

***** Dreamland (aka Area 51-3.ASC) *****

November 14, 1989

ParaNet Information Service (Denver, CO) -- In our
continuing coverage of the Riddle of Area 51, here is yet
another
installment of the KLAS-TV program being aired in Las
Vegas,
Nevada featuring Bob Lazar, who has 'come out of the closet'
so
to speak with information regarding government testing of
UFOs.

====================================================
=============

Just over this ridge [showing a photo of Area 51], tucked

inside the test tubes of a hidden government base, the secrets
of
the universe may be unfolding. The area is designated S-4,
and
according to one man who claims to have worked there, S-4
harbors
scientific achievements that would astonish our deepest
thinkers. It is technology that, if it exists, could change the
world, but is allegedly bottled up by military minds.

Lazar: "It's not an overall government project. It's not

something that Congress appropriates money for. 2 billion is
for
this; 15 billion for flying saucers; 8 billion for Star Wars. It
doesn't go like that. I don't believe that they have any
knowledge of it at all."

The technology that Bob Lazar says he saw extends far

beyond
flying saucers. An anti-matter reactor allows the spaceships
to
produce their own gravitational fields, he says, such a
technology, if real, would answer UFO skeptics who argue
that
aliens could never visit Earth because the distances
between
worlds are too great, even at the speed of light.

Lazar: "Gravity distorts time and space. Just like if you had a
water bed and put a bowling ball in the middle. It warps it
down
like that -- that's exactly what happens to space. Imagining
that you were in a spacecraft that could exert a
tremendous
gravitational field by itself you could sit on any particular
place and turn on the gravity generator and actually warp
space
and time, and fold it. By shutting that off, you'd click back
and you'd be a tremendous distance from where you were but
time
would not have even moved because you essentially shut it
off. I
mean it is so far fetched, people....it's difficult for people to
grasp, and as stubborn as the scientific community is
they'll
never buy it, but this is, in fact, that's just what happens."

Actually, Lazar's explanation is very close to mainstream

scientific thought, and can be traced directly to Einstein. The
difference is scientists regard it as theory only. There is much
that science still doesn't know.

Dale Etheridge (Scientist): "There are people who say that

our
main problem with that is we don't know what gravity is. It's
this magical force that acts at a distance. We can describe
how
it behaves -- that's what the law of gravity is -- it's just a
description of how it behaves, but it says nothing about
what
gravity really is."

We'll use Etheridge as our barometer of scientific thought.

He says we cannot produce gravity; that there's no such thing
as
a working anti-matter reactor, and that we have yet to figure
out
a way to get around the speed of light. He also concedes,
though, such things are possible.

Etheridge: "Yeah. And really we don't know what's possible

as
there could be other civilizations out there several hundred
years or so -- a thousand years, even a million years ahead
of
us -- that have found a way to circumvent this. We have no
way
of knowing for sure."

Lazar: "Well, the thing is when you harness gravity, you

harness
everything. It's the missing piece in physics right now. We
really know very little about gravity."

At least that's the way it used to be. Lazar says the

technology to harness gravity not only exists but is being
tested
at S-4. And, if such technology is beyond human capabilities,
it
must have come from someplace else. It's more than
conjecture,
he says, because he also saw an element that cannot be
found on
the periodic chart. The element, called 115, can be stored in
lead casings much like this one [showing a lead circular
container]. Lazar says the government has 500 pounds of it,
and
it cannot be made on earth.
Lazar: "It would be almost impossible; well, it is impossible to
synthesize an element that heavy here on Earth."

Interviewer: "At least right now."

Lazar: "I don't think that you can ever synthesize it. The
amount of....you essentially have to assemble it by
bombarding it
with protons if....atom by atom, it would take an infinite
amount
of power and an infinite amount of time. The substance has
to
come from a place where super-heavy elements could have
been
produced naturally.

And what sort of place is that?

Lazar: "Next to a much larger sun where there would be

greater
mass. Maybe a binary star system -- a super-nova --
somewhere
where there is just a bigger release of energy to synthesize
these things naturally. It has to be a naturally occurring
element."

115 is the fuel for the anti-matter reactors, he says. By

bombarding 115 anti-matter is produced. A kilo of anti-
matter
could produce the energy equivalent of 46 ten-megaton
hydrogen
bombs, and comparing the energy potential of anti-matter to,
say,
the Hoover Dam would be like comparing planets to grains of
sand.
115 could also make one heck of a bomb.

Lazar: "We're talking about hundreds and hundreds of

megatons
off a small piece of it. It sounds incredible, but total

conversion of matter to energy would release that amount

of
power. And it isn't that difficult to take....get the energy out
of it. So it's not something you'd ever want to fall anyone's
hands."

The dangers associated with 115 and anti-matter may be

the
reason Lazar was hired to work at S-4. There was an accident,
he
says, back in April 1987. An accident that was passed off as
an
unannounced nuclear test.

Lazar: "Some people got killed. I was told flat out I was one
of the people that were to replace these guys."

Is this why the government might be keeping the whole

matter
a secret? Because of the military potential of alien
technology?
Lazar says he believes the Soviet Union was once part of
our
research on the flying disks, but that the U.S. kicked the
Soviets out after making some sort of discovery. He also
believes the program at S-4 is operated with funds allocated
to
Star Wars research, but says he can't prove it. Some
UFO
researchers suspect the government is test flying alien craft
so
that it can one day master the technology and claim it was
made
in the good old U.S.A., thus obscuring the possibility of alien
visitations.
Stanton T. Friedman: "I think they have the duty to inform
us.
At least to the bare bones of what's going on. I don't want
technological stuff put out on the table. I mean, I worked on
classified projects for 15 years, and I don't think we need
another weapon's delivery system. But I think the
government
does have the responsibility to release information that,
indeed,
the planet is being visited. Probably it should be done in
conjunction with the Soviets."

Lazar: "I don't think that it will get to that level. They're
not going to have a fleet of them and fly them around and....I
don't think you need to do that. If you're looking at them from
a weapons point of view, you're looking at an incredibly
powerful
device. You only need one to operate. You don't ever need
to
come public with it. You may want to learn more about it
should
it ever break which is....might be what they're doing. Uh...."

Interviewer: "They've got one...."

Lazar: "Oh, they've got a few. Yeah."

Lazar is the first to admit that his story is tough to

swallow. He submitted to polygraph exams that opened
up
sensitive parts of his personal life, and fully expects to be
ridiculed or perhaps punished for his revelations. His desire
to
explain what really happened at S-4 took us to Layne Keck,
a
licensed experienced hypnotherapist who quietly and
privately
tried to help Lazar remember details of the many briefing
papers
he says he read.

Keck: "I have no clue as to what we were getting to, and he

started saying that there were pictures of what I thought
was
desks on the wall. Well as it turned out, it was disks that he
was referring to. And, at that moment, I realized we were into
something that was pretty heavy."

Keck does not exaggerate his claims for hypnosis. He

regards it as a useful tool for uncovering some lost memory.
He
says people are quite capable of lying under hypnosis, but
says
the technique can be of help in determining truth. What's
his
opinion of Lazar's truthfulness?

Keck: "It tells me that his subconscious mind believes

totally
all of these things."

Lazar has long suspected that his government employers

used
some sort of mind control technique to prevent him
from
disclosing too much about S-4. While he says he has
vivid
conscious memories of the saucers and other technology
there were
other memories, that even now, remained locked, which is
why he
sought out Keck in the first place. Keck is convinced that
someone really did mess with Lazar's head.
Keck: "Also they used primitive fear in threatening those in
his
environment if he did bring this information forth. Also, it
appears that maybe there were some chemicals used."

Lazar: "Nah, I'm not going to change anyone's mind. That not
my
intention. I'm just relaying the experience. The job that I
went through. It is a fantastic thing. It's a fantastic story.
I can't take people there to show them what was going on, and
uh,
you know, I don't expect anyone to believe it."

What if he is right? What if aliens are here? How would

this change our view of the world? Our most fundamental
beliefs,
which is religion? We'll know more on that tomorrow.

FLYING SAUCERS: THE BIBLE CONNECTION

Bible scholar, Barry Downing, firmly believes that

biblical
teachings were inspired by extraterrestial beings who
came to
earth in flying sausers. Downing was so convinced, he wrote
a book
about his theory called THE BIBLE AND FLYING SAUCERS
(Lippincott,
New York, 1968).

In the book, Downing says the bible clearly points out how
UFOs
played a strong role in the evolution of the Hebrew-
Christian
faith. For example, Downing believes the Scriptures
suggest that
Jesus' resurrection occured when he was beamed up from
Earth by a
flying saucer.

Downing also believes that the bright cloud that led the
people
of Israel through the Red Sea, parting the waters and
then
engulfing the Egyptions, was a UFO.
The Author even claims it was space beings who spoke
to Moses
from the middle of a glowing thicket, and later spoke to
Elijah
outside the cave, forcing the prophet to sheild his eyes
because
of the brightness. A UFO took Jesus away at the
Ascension, and
hovered over Paul and his followers on the Damascus
Road, Downing
contends.

Further, the author claims the three wise men probably

followed
a UFO to Bethlehem, since stars do not move or abruptly
stop in
the manner the bible describes.

Downing claims that evidence proving UFOs could be

hazardous to
human health can also be found in the Bible. He points
to
references to the Egyptians drowning in the Red Sea,
warning Moses
not to approach too near the burning bush, and warnings
given his
followers not to approach Mount Sinai, as proof. The
author
points out other mystifying events in the Bible that he
believes
can only be interpreted to mean the participants had
contact with
UFOs.

For example, he points out that when Moses decended

from Mount
Sinai with two tablets in his hands, Exodus records that the
skin
of his face shone from talking with God. And he says the
NEW
TESTAMENT describes how Jesus began to glow when in
contact with a
bright object on a mountain.

Page 1

When the Tabernacle was built, Downing cotends the

priests
serving it were told by ETs what clothing to wear to
protect
themselves against radiation, because the UFO hovered like
a cloud
over the tent enclosing the Tabernacle. Downing believes
this
precaution could have brought about the Jewish custom of
wearing
skullcaps into houses of worship. The author even
suggests
mutations in the growth of biological life caused by
radiation
could have resulted in the plagues described in Exodus.

Downing further theorizes that Einstein's curvature of

space
theory provides aclue to the place where heaven is
located. The
author contends Jesus may have meant that the kingdom
of heaven
quite literally rests in the midst of us, meaning that heaven
is
on an entirely different plane or wave length, invisible to
us,
but existing parallel to our own and connected by bends or
warps
in the space-time continuum.

Vangard Notes...

The burning bush is distinctly reminescent of an effect

which
can be induced by a high frequency/high voltage Tesla
coil.
Any mass can be made to emit visible light at high
voltages.
Another possibility is a plasma excited from behind or
within
the bush.

We refer you to the file on KeelyNet entitled MARS1.ZIP

or

system
using a modulated plasma. Other files are

We concur with Dr. Downings thoughts regarding

Biblical
miracles as being produced by the high technology
from a
source or sources more evolved than man at that time.
They
could be other worldly, other dimensional or inner Earth.
No
one can say at this time and prove their contentions.

Scientists' and Engineers' Dreams
Taking to Skies as 'Black' Aircraft
***********************************

Super-classified "black" aircraft developement

programs have
served the U.S. and its allies well during the last 40-plus
years,
providing specialized vehicles such as the U-2/TR-1, SR-71
and F-
117A. Still unproven, but also products of this special
access
shadow world, are the B-2 bomber and Navy A-12, among
others.

How many additional air vehicles may have been

developed, yet
never revealed publicly, often is debated but rarely proven.

It is certain, however, that eight years of Reagan

Administration were good to the black world. For whatever
reason,
billions of dollars were pumped into highly classified,
special
access programs and new facilities, allowing creative
scientists and
bright engineers unprecedented opportunities to experiment
and test
their wildest dreams. Their only constraint, apparently,
was that
projects be linked to operational considerations and
pragmatic
applications.

A number of those dreams have taken wing in the past

few years,
and increasing numbers of new, exotic vehicles have been
reported by
ground observers throughout the U.S. recently (AW&ST
Dec. 18, 1989,
p. 42; Oct. 1, p. 22). In addition, airline and military pilots
have reported seeing unusual high-speed, high-altitude,
maneuvering

Page 1

vehicles during the last few years.

What these sightings add up to is this: The U.S. has

developed
a fleet of new aircraft and is either testing them or already
flying
several types in operational service. Because they are
considered
"super-super-black" programs, military and other
government
officials deny their existence.

Those who are briefed and know such aircraft exist

cannot admit
it, and those who are not briefed simply do not know.
The best
guesses of experts - and those who think they should know,
by virtue
of their position -really are no more revealing than those
of a
technically minded layman extrapolating from the known
state of
"white world" technology.

But for all those billions, what has the American

taxpayer
bought? Is the nation - and the world - any safer? Do we
now
possess the "ultimate" weapons featured in comic books -
the ones so
devastating any potential adversary would never think of
disturbing
the peace for fear of the good guys' retaliation? Are exotic
black-
world aircraft real peace-makers?

Maybe.

Briefings and well-choreographed show-and-tell

sessions given
to slected members of Congress and key government
officials in the
late 1980s would lead one to believe some of these exotic
aircraft
just might be such weapons. While unabashedly
appealing for
continued funding under the Bush Administration, proud
hosts of
these sessions referred to unique air vehicles on display as
"the
reasons the Iron Curtain Fell."

Unfortunately, proving the existance of such aircraft is

not a
trivial task for those well-grounded on the unclassified side
of the
fence, despite bits and pieces of strong evidence in hand.
So, most
of the curious among us are reduced to watching the
night sky,
sifting through tons of technical literature and making
educated
deductions. Through this process, a natural first
question any
technical skeptic worth his salt might ask is: "What would
such a
vehicle look like, and what would be its mission?"

For sake of argument, let's consider the following details

as
comprising a theoretical possibility of a hypersonic U.S.-
developed
aircraft which could be cruising the skies tonight:

* An elongated, diamond-shaped unmanned vehicle

measuring about
110 ft. long and 60 ft. wide at its midpoint. Call it a
flattened football shape. But fore and aft end points,
as
well as the leading edges, are rounded rather than
sharp.
Although diamond-shaped, the aircraft's basic contours
might
be described as similar to those of a smooth
"skipping
stone." The vehicle has a heavy appearance, likened
to the
blocky sturdiness of a Caterpillar tractor or even the
space
shuttle.

* All surfaces are covered with black ceramic tiles,

quite
similar to those now used on the shuttle orbiter. They
have
a scorched, heat-streaked appearance, and seem to be
coated
with a crystalline patina indicative of sustained
exposure to

Page 2

high temperature. A burnt-carbon odor emanates

from the
surface. The aft body tiles are distinctly more
pockmarked
and degraded than those on the forward half of the
aircraft,
as if they had experienced the most heat.

* Jet engines buried in the lower fuselage are fed by

inlet
ducts that open into the tile surface. These
powerplants
boost the aircraft to supersonic speeds, at which time
an
external burning mechanism takes over as the
primary
propulsion method. The turbojets are shut down, and
their
inlet/exhaust ports are closed until speed drops to the
low
Mach numbers again.

In the high-Mach regine, misted fuel is ejected from

the
fuselage midsection - the "break point" of the elongated
diamond -
across the aft surface tiles, into the area between the
fuselage and
a shock wave attached to this break. In essence, the
sloping,
converging aft fuselage sections form the inside of a
"nozzle," and
the shock boundary constitutes the outer surface,
creating and
expanding exhaust effect, much like that on a conventional
rocket.

The fuel is ignited by surface heating - or other means

-
creating combustion that accelerates the aircraft up to the
Mach 6-8
regime.

* Narrow leading and trailing edge sections provide

aerodynamic
control in all axes.

* On the fuselage underside, forward of the midsection

and
between the buried powerplants, is a clipped-diamond
section
covered with 121 tile-covered ports. Behind each
cover -
which is flush with the fuselage surface - rests a
nuclear
warhead which approximates the shape of either a
reentry
vehicle (RV) or an artillery shell. Each RV stands
vertically, pointing down.

When released, the cover tile is discarded, the

weapon is
ejected downward, and a second tile automatically is
moved into
position, closing the port and retaining a smooth aircraft
surface.
These weapons are dispensed only at subsonic speeds
to enhance
accuracy and avoid internal heating problems from opening
a port in
the lower, heated external surfaces, especially when in
the
hypersonic regime.

* The unmanned vehicle is capable of onboard self-

control, but
also will accept external commands via satellite or a
ground
station. Sandia's Winged Energetic Reentry
Vehicle
Experiment project confirmed that electromagnetic
signals can
be received by such a vehicle, even through the ionized
layer
surrounding it at hypersonic speeds (AW&ST Aug, 6, p.
25).

Clearly, an unmanned vehicle of this type would be a

powerful
strategic weapon, able to devastate targets over a wide
area. Its
Mach 6-8 speed would improve the ability to survive greatly,
because
fighters and ground-to-air missiles would be hard-
pressed to
intercept the vehicle. Even though it must slow to
possibly
subsonic speeds for weapons delivery, the aircraft's
surface
structure and low radar cross-section contours would
give it a
respectable low observable characteristics which could
complicate

Page 3
targeting by defenders.

Reconnaissance versions would have twice the speed

capability
of the now-retired SR-71, yet, being unmanned, would not
risk the
loss of a human crew when operating over high-threat
areas. Once
proven effective, such an aircraft would be a dream come
true for
any four-star in charge of the Strategic Air Command.

Of course, it also would complicate the Air Force's

arguments
for funding expensive armaments such as the B-2 bomber,
MX missile
and small ICBM. Could these still be justified, in the
numbers
originally requested?

Finally, as Persian Gulf tensions continue into 1991, one

must
question whether the U.S. commander in chief and his
defense
secretary are fully aware of super-black weapon systems'
potential.

Let's hope so.

Hard as it may be to fathom, there is reason to wonder

whether
complete knowledge of the most exotic aircraft may reach
"The Top,"
all for super-security.

One would like to think America's staggering black-

world
expenditures have yielded weaponry that could neutralize
Iraqi
President Hussien's most valued military and political
assets
quickly. Some say that capability is in hand and could be
used -
albeit with conventional payloads - if the right people
choose to do
so. If they do not, why not?

If so, why are almost 400,000 U.S. and allied troops dug
into
the sand in Saudi Arabia, prepared to slug it out in a bloody
ground
war?

Maybe it's time for America's taxpayers to demand an

accounting
of their black-world investments.

The tradeoffs between national security - the reason

for
keeping programs "black" in the first place - and the lives of
those
troops are worthy of wider consideration.

The concepts in this document are based on known and
current
technologies and capabilities as extrapolated by Jerry
Decker,
Cheyenne Turner, Ron Barker, Chuck Henderson, and
brought up in
discussions with various other associates of KeelyNet and
Vangard
Sciences.

It is offered to the public as a VERY RATIONAL alternative

to the
current UFO speculations regarding the crop circles.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Crop Circles a Hoax?

By now, most people are aware of the mysterious crop

circles which
have appeared in England and now are showing up in
the United
States. The patterns began with simple circles that have
now become
complex patterns including lines and intricate designs.

The circles appear in wheat fields in the form of wheat

stalks that
are pressed down; usually in a swirling pattern having
rotations in
either a counter-clockwise or clockwise direction.

Both mystical and pseudo-scientific relationships have been

attached
including :

1) herds of mating hedgehogs,

2) violent atmospheric disturbances,
3) lung-mei (earth energies most commonly referred to as
dragon
currents) linked to megalithic sites,
4) UFO landing sites
5) hoaxers

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Specific observations regarding the circles

1) There are NO vehicle tracks or footprints leading into
or
out of the fields when the circles appear.

2) The circles appear within a very short period of time.

The
best estimate I have seen between creation and
observation
of a circle is within an hour.

3) The circles ALWAYS APPEAR AT NIGHT.

Page 1

4) In some cases a warbling sound and a moving

orange light
precede the circle appearance. Other cases cited
a
whooshing sound.

5) The crops affected by the circle are sometimes

"woven" in a
basket weave pattern.

6) The affected crops are bent in a more nearly

horizontal
position and continue to grow in that position for a
considerable time after the circle manifestation.

7) The affected crops are bent as if the plant cells

were
"melted". Microscopic examination shows no
fracturing or
breaking of plant cells indicative of forced bending.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
We have a multiplicity of facts to consider which, when
taken
together, show a most interesting hypothesis as to a
probable cause.

Before going into the hypothesis, let me first state that

circular
patterns have been associated with UFO sightings for
many years
before Man began launching rockets and satellites into
space.

A specific case is that of Billy Meier in Switzerland.

Videotapes
of the patterns left at alleged landing sights have three
primary
features which correlate exactly with the crop circles. These
are :

1) A swirling pattern (always circluar) appears in grass.

2) The grass grows in the swirling pattern for several

months
AFTER the alleged landing.

3) Many of the sites are in secluded and highly remote

areas,
some impossible to access with a vehicle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Prior to the last 3 to 5 years, no UFO trace landing site had
shown
evidence of any pattern beyond simple circles.

Since the inception of SDI (the Star Wars program), Man has
had the
capability of projecting high intensity laser beams
followed
immediately by EXTREMELY high electrical charges aimed
at targets on
the planet.
SDI uses very high intensity lasers (EXCIMER LASERS) to
generate and
project these beams of UltraViolet light.

High intensity UV light cohered into laser beams IONIZES

the air
through which the beam passes thus creating a conducting
path.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

How Star Wars works

The idea is :

1) to build up a very high electrical charge in the satellite,

2) target a structure from space using a weak UV laser

Page 2

3) increase the amplitude of the UV laser beam until a

highly
ionized path is created from the satellite to the target

4) this ionized path acts as an electrical conductor much

like a
wire being thrown from the satellite to the target

5) the electrical energy is then transferred to the laser

beam
path which passes the artificial "lightning" to the target

6) as the electrical energy passes into the target, the

molecules are electrostatically repelled with
explosive
velocities causing the target to explode.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The SDI Circle Hypothesis

All cells contain DNA and RNA among other things. These
two complex
molecules are especially sensitive to UV frequencies in the
range of
260 NM.
***

In addition, cells can be "denatured" or "melted" when

exposed to
temperatures in the range of 73 to 77 degrees Celsius. This
causes
the ladder-like structure of the DNA/RNA to begin to
separate.

This is one of the reasons high energy sources are so

dangerous to
living systems. The energy causes micro-heating in the
DNA/RNA
which partially "melts" the tissues.

When the heating is removed (and depending on the

degree of
melting), the DNA/RNA will revert to the original mirror
symmetry
pattern.

This is not always a perfect reversion to the original

pattern
however. Sometimes the patterns are so distorted as to
produce
mutations in the form of cancer and other diseases.

***
Plants also are made up of cells. If these cells are subjected
to a
high intensity UV laser, heating occurs causing the plants
to melt
like plastic at their weakest point, i.e. the stalk.
***
Two dimensional laser displays rely on a device known as
an acousto-
optic modulator. This is simply a front surface mirror
(reflecting
only from the exposed side) which vibrates on either an X
or a Y
axis.

When the modulator is driven by a sufficiently fast device

(like a
computer), the laser beam can be reflected off the mirror to
paint a
picture on any surface. The flatter the surface (and the
more
perpendicular to the beam), the more perfect the
reproduction of the
intended image.

If a UV laser were to be properly directed from a space

satellite
(intended to be used for SDI purposes), it could quite
easily
"paint" a picture on earth or crops.

Page 3

***
Only the crops within the beam would be sufficiently melted
to cause
the bending effect. That is why microscopic examination
of the
stalk shows no tearing or cellular rupture as it would be if
bent by
force.

***
Now as to the swirling effect of the crop patterns.
Anytime a
charged air mass is moved, it must necessarily move air
with it.
This effect is used commercially for the production of
sound from
electrostatic speakers.

When the UV laser is being rapidly directed from the

satellite, the
air WILL follow the pattern and effectively push the crops
into the
desired direction while they are under the
"melting/denaturation"
process.

This sudden moving of air from a moving electrostatic

column would
cause a whooshing sound.

Also, the moving orange light could quite well be an

electrical
effect in the form of a plasma.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Some of our group find it quite humorous to think that

some of the
SDI people would be playing such an elaborate prank
using such a
sophisticated means of application.

Chuck Henderson even suggested that the work might be

that of one or
more "hackers" who had broken the access and command
codes for the
SDI satellite.

The intriguing thing about the crop circles is that to date,

ALL
sightings PRIOR to the SDI project; NEVER involved
complex
geometries or patterns beyond a circle shape.

This would follow the UFO landing site theory, that is any
pattern
found within the circle could be landing gear or some
other
attachment of which we currently know nothing. Note that
no lines
or other complex patterns were EVER found before SDI.

I understand that some people had voiced the opinion that

"if the
circles are the work of an intelligent force, then the pattern
would
be more complex."

Another comment was to the effect that "lines or geometric

patterns
would be highly indicative of an intelligence at work."

Damned if within the next couple of weeks, lines and more

complex
patterns began showing up. Just as if some SDI (or hacker)
had read
or heard the media report of such a comment and
courteously
"obliged" the request.

I (Decker) cannot help but find a great deal of humor in

the
MAJORITY of UFO cases over the past few years.
Between the
outrageous abductions and the claims of greys eating
humans, it is
getting out of hand, even exceeding my credulity (which
has been
said to be pretty outrageous).
Page 4

The TV show "America's Funniest Home Videos" had a

segment which I
thought perfectly depicted the majority of UFO "believers" of
today.

A viewer took his video camera to the zoo and trained it on

a group
of penguins standing in front of a dimly lit wall. He then
played a
very tight flashlight beam on the wall and moved it back and
forth.
Each time, the penguins would follow as if it were food or
something
of interest.

A most hilarious effect, much like my cat following a laser

beam.
He would even go so far as to hurt himself while jumping to
"catch"
the moving light.

At any rate, now that there is a somewhat logical

hypothesis which
matches and explains a good deal of the phenomena, we
can figure out
a means of proving it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

How to Prove the SDI Circle Hypothesis

Two techniques for detecting the signs of the UV laser

would take
the following form :

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Technique 1 - use of a camera to automatically record the
phenomena
1) proper filtration and the use of a film sensitive to UV
wavelengths would record the "spotlight" of the beam
as it
swept the ground

2) multiple consecutive and rapid exposures of the UV

sensitive
film should be made to record the movement of the
beam as it
traces the pattern

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Technique 2 - cloud beam detectors

1) pressurized containers containing a powder or gas

which
emitted visible light in the presence of UV wavelengths

2) these containers would be triggered to emit large

clouds of
powder and show the presence of the beam

3) once the beams were detected, video cameras could

tape the
clouds and show the moving beam presence and
pattern
(depending on the speed)

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Detection of the presence of the UV laser beam

1) the whooshing sound creating by the moving air as a

result
of the "scanned" beam could be used as a trigger

2) the abrupt change in the electrostatic potential due to

the
establishment of the conducting path in the immediate
area
could be used as a trigger

Page 5

3) human spotters to monitor for changes in the

ambience of the
area and manually trigger the recording devices

--------------------------------------------------------------------

One of the reasons I dissociated with ACTIVE participation

with the
UFO movement was the gullibility of many of the people
involved as
well as the ridiculousness of many of the stories.

I have met people who have spent as much as 30 years of

their lives
studying this phenomenon without ONE SHRED OF
PHYSICAL PROOF.

After this happens to you several times, you look at the

person and
think, "How could you throw away your life on such
Bullshit!"

Not for ME, I want to make VALID, REPRODUCIBLE

contributions in the
form of increased understanding for myself and others,
preferably
taking the form of machines or infallible techniques.

Let's face it, much of the WOOFY (airy-fairy) science and

much of
the New Age stuff is pure BS. If we can't build a machine to
prove
it, or have others duplicate the effect, then IT AIN'T
WORTH
SCREWING WITH!

Don't blow your life down the tube, be CRITICAL, be

ANALYTICAL and
read WIDELY so you can see overlapping patterns. ASK
for proof,
don't take someone's word that they can levitate or
communicate
telepathically, or astrally project, or whatever.

If they ask for a "love donation" and they haven't done any
physical
phenomena or shown a working device to produce an
unusual effect,
tell them to piss off and get a job.

Forgive my somewhat negative comments, but on reading

this paper, I
can't help but to stress the value of HEALTHY SKEPTICISM.

I am sending a copy of this paper to the Koestler

Foundation who is
offering a 5,000 pound reward and the Sunday Mirror who is
offering
a 10,000 pound reward to anyone who can fully explain the
enigma.

You never know, it might win and COULD WE EVER DO

SOMETHING WITH
THAT MONEY!!!

Michael Chorost, Director of North American Circle, P.O.

Box 61144
Durham, NC 27715-1144 has just sent me a copy of his
latest report
entitled _The Summer 1991 Crop Circles: The Data
Emerges_,
published by the Fund for UFO Research, P.O. Box 277,
Mt. Ranier,
MD 20712. What follows is extracted from his report.
Marshall Dudley believes he has identified yttrium-88
and bismuth-
205 in soil samples taken from the oval formation at
Beckhampton,
U.K. formed on August 2/3, 1991.

These are non-naturally occurring short-lived

isotopes, so their
presence, once confirmed, will be of great interest. (Y-
88's half-
life is 107 days; Bi-205's is 15.3 days.)

The samples also registered sky-high alpha/beta particle

readings of
198% / 45% respectively when compared to control
samples. Dudley is
a systems engineer for Tennelec/Nucleus of Oak
Ridge, TN, and
manufactures gas flow counters, which are instruments
designed to
detect extremely minute quantities of alpha and beta
radiation.

Dr. W.C. Levengood, a biophysicist living in Michigan,

specializing
in plant and seed development, has also made some
remarkable
discoveries. One was that the growth nodes on plants
taken from
within authentic circles had become significantly enlarged
when
compared to control plants.

He hypothesizes that some energy input, possibly

heat, caused the
cells in those nodes to swell, causing lasting but not
fatal damage.
Mechanically hoaxed circles did not exhibit the same
effect.
Secondly, Levengood discovered a high incidence
(40%) of seed
malformation in plants taken from the Newton St. Loe
formation,
whereas virtually all control seeds were normal.

Thirdly, microscopic examination of the node cells

revealed that the
pits in their cell walls had become larger and more visible.
This is
what Levengood hypothesizes would occur if something
heated the

Page 1

water inside the cells so rapidly that the cell walls

swelled and
forced the pits to expand.

Michael also mentions the plasma vortex quintuplet sets

that I have
observed, photographed/video- taped, and previously
posted applicable
documentation about on this echo.

There is much more information and substantiation in

Michaels
report, which I would be happy to share with those
interested.

Michael's conclusions are summarized as follows:

1) The phenomenon induces radiation anomalies.

2) It appears the plants are heated both rapidly and
briefly.
3) Plants are sometimes scorched, particularly
grasses.
4) Plant cell walls swell, elongating cell wall pits,
leaving
"stretch marks".
5) Induced developmental anomalies in seeds.
6) The circles may correlate with aquifers (water
saturated
rocks such as chalk and limestone)
7) The circles do correlate, at least grossly, with
ancient
megaliths.
8) The quintuplet may be artificially duplicable.
9) Hoaxes may be able to be distinguished from
genuine circles
with laboratory tests.
10) Some formations may represent or symbolize
known objects.
11) The circles do correlate geographically with
some well
documented sightings of unidentified luminous
aerial
objects.

Thanks Michael, for your admirable

achievement...Sheldon

George Hill goes down on the farm and discovers that

corn circles
are grist to a media mill, whether messages in Sumerian,
natural
phenomena or simply hoaxes . In spite of the giant
graffiti
mockingly imprinted this week on a cornfield just under
their noses,
the research team seeking to crack the mystery of corn
circles at
Westbury Hill in Wiltshire mean to continue their vigil until
the
crop is harvested in two or three weeks' time.
The standing corn is the writing-paper on which some
little-
understood influence inscribes, with uncanny precision,
signs which
seem to grow more numerous and more complex every
year. With five
low-light video cameras trained day and night on the
ripening
cornfields which stretch away to the horizon from their
vantage-
point on the chalk ramparts of the prehistoric Bratton Fort,
the
team hopes to catch the moment of formation of one of the
circles.

The scene at Bratton Fort on Wednesday, on the morning

the hoaxers
had been at work, did little to promote the credibility of
the
circles as a genuine scientific phenomenon. Down below
was the
evidence of the work of a party of buffoons to damage
somebody
else's property and livelihood, while high on the
escarpment the
angry and excited figure of Colin Andrews, one of the
leaders of the
project, was letting himself be drawn by bands of the
international
media into dropping hints which will not help workers in
the field
to gain respectable backers for future research.

An atmosphere of silly-season gaiety hung over the

encampment. It
will be harder than ever now to wrest the subject from the
mystics
who prefer supernatural to natural explanations, and the
cynics who
are satisfied that everything can be explained on the
basis of
bucolic humour or press circulation-battles. Because the
story is
all about ripening corn, it breaks every year just at the time
when
serious news tends to be afflicted by its usual summer
drought. As
Mr Andrews spoke of ``an airborne consciousness'', which
he declared
could not inappropriately be described as ``supernatural'',
the
representative of the Today newspaper stood at his
shoulder with a
proprietorial smile.

For those who have been so merrily making hay out of the
corn in
recent weeks, any turn in the tale, whether hoax or
otherwise, can

Page 1

be turned to account except one: a natural explanation. A

solution
to the mystery would spoil the fun and they would be
thrown back on
the Loch Ness monster. So successful has the drive to
mystification
been, that a spokesman for the Meteorological Office
yesterday was
still taking the classic attitude of conservative science to
a
puzzle with overtones of the occult, and dismissing the
whole
phenomenon as ``a glorified hoax''.
In spite of Wednesday's prank, and earlier jollities like
the
appearance of the message ``WEARENOTALONE'' on a
Hampshire hillside
in 1983, and last year's report of rings at an Essex village
called
Littley Green (Littley Green Men: geddit?), there can be no
doubt
that many circles are not hoaxes. If the 400 rings which
have been
reported this year are all man-made, then the sun must have
touched
an alarmingly large number of industrious humourists.

Many are in remote spots where the chances of publicity

would be
slight. Similar circles have been reported in many other
countries
where there has been no ballyhoo to encourage pranksters,
and as
long ago as 1936, 1918, and even 1678. ``It is usually
easy to
distinguish a natural circle from a man-made one by
looking at the
way the stalks have been pressed down,'' says Paul
Fuller,the joint
author of Crop Circles a Mystery Solved, to be published
next month.

``If you visit a fresh one, you can see how the crops have
been
pressed down in a spiral or circular pattern, sometimes so
gently
that they have not even been flattened, sometimes pressed
so firmly
into the soil that they leave a mark in it. The traces left by
human
intervention are quite different.''
But there are aspects to the circles which make them
tempting
subjects for science-fiction speculation. Witnesses who
have been
nearby when they form frequently speak of strange lights
and buzzing
noises, or sensations similar to those associated with
strong fields
of static electricity.

Tests with instruments have sometimes confirmed that

electric
phenomena are involved. The growing number of circles
may be
partly explicable by changes in agricultural practice, but it
is
impossible to account for the eerily systematic patterns of
recent
examples. Fancy and superstition have ranged
exuberantly in
proposing explanations for the phenomenon.

Claims that the cause involves flying saucers, fungal

infections,
ley-lines, giant hailstones, rutting stags or mass-
movements of
hedgehogs have been suggested, and gleefully
perpetuated by those
who thrive on mystification.

This year, the bouillabaisse of red herrings has been

enriched by a
suggestion that the signs are a warning of ecological
disaster
written in 3,000-year-old Sumerian script although it has
not been
explained why an entity which has not yet discovered the
ABC should
be supposed to have any up to date information about other
events on
earth.

The mystifiers are less happy with the evidence of the small
number
of witnesses, including some impeccably sober citizens,
who have
actually observed the formation of circles. Their
testimony
threatens to spoil the fun. One of them is Melvyn Bell, a
Wiltshire

Page 2

labourer, who saw a circle in 1983, long before the story

was taken
up by the tabloids. ``It didn't seem a matter of great interest
to
me at the time,'' he says. ``I was riding on the old Ridgeway
near
Lavington at about eight in the evening one day in August.
About a
quarter of a mile away I saw a small cloud of dust above a
cornfield
it looked like one of those spinning clouds of debris you
sometimes
see outside a supermarket. I was looking down the hill
towards it,
higher up than the top of the cloud. It was all over in a
few
seconds. It laid out a circle about ten yards wide in the
corn. I
heard no buzzing noises.''

Of all explanations, the whirlwind solution is the one

that
commentators drawn to occult answers dislike most. Mr.
Andrews
mentions it briefly and dismissively in his own book,
Circular
Evidence, written jointly with Pat Delgado and published last
year.

Supernaturalists have suggested that Mr Bell's evidence

should be
discounted because he is an employee of Dr. Terence
Meaden, an
academic specialising in research into atmospheric
processes, whose
book The Circles Effect and Its Mysteries, also published
last year
(there must be a supernatural explanation behind this
exponential
growth in the number of books on the subject).

Dr. Meaden is the first writer to put forward a theory

which
explains most of the characteristics of the circles on a
basis of
current scientific knowledge. In the process, he goes far
to
providing a rational explanation for many of the UFO
reports which
have puzzled researchers for decades. Drawing partly
on the
extensive records gathered by Mr Andrews and his
colleagues, he
shows that circles tend to appear in very specific
conditions of
weather and topography.

``I would say there is no mystery about the basic

process,'' he
says. ``The primary thing is a vortex formed on the lee side
of a
hill in very still atmospheric conditions. If a mass of air near
the
ground becomes electrically charged, as it can be by
friction where
a dry crop and dust have been stirred by the wind all day,
very
complex processes might develop, and produce the buzzing
and glowing
that have been described.''

In their familiar form, whirlwinds happen only in daylight,

when
warm air creates upcurrents which spin as they rise. But
where a
layer of cool air lies above a warm layer, parts of the upper
layer
can fall away, and as they sink, spiral formations like
smoke-rings
may form. These spinning masses, some larger than
others, some
hitting the ground quite hard, and others scarcely
brushing it,
might well be the most credible explanation for many of the
detailed
characteristics of the circles, including the delicate
concentric
forms sometimes seen.

It is more difficult to understand how they could produce

treble and
quintuple patterns of rings, and harder still to see how they
could
lead to the complex angular spurs and key-patterns
photographed this
year. ``Imagine a round clock falling to the ground,'' Dr
Meaden
says. ``If it falls gently, it may leave a plain round
impression
behind. If it falls so hard that it smashes, then parts of
the
mechanism might shoot out this way or that. Further
vortices inside
the main vortex might fly out as it disintegrates. I think
many of
these patterns are genuine, and offer clues to the internal

Page 3

structure of these objects.'' But not even Dr Meaden can

offer a
clear explanation for the apparent tendency of the patterns
to grow
more complex year by year. If that trend continues, a
degree of
mystery will continue to cling to the circles, and it may not
be
long before it seems worthwhile for us to brush up on our
Sumerian.

Crop Circles; Letter From Mr Ralph Noyes

Sir,
I read with interest your report on the reappearance of
crop
circles (July 16). Hoaxing is undoubtedly taking place in
some
cases. We in the Centre for Crop Circle Studies are
cooperating
closely with the Wiltshire police in the hope of eliminating
this
nuisance, which is not only troublesome to farmers but
muddies the
scientific record.
The event in the field near Alton Barnes which occurred
on July
1-2 (there has since been a second formation in the same
field) was
seen within hours by members of CCCS. It will by now
have lost
much of its delicate texturing as a result of sight-seeing
by
members of the public. But in its pristine state it showed
the
hallmarks of a genuine occurrence, particularly in the
complex
layering of the grain where the main shaft of the formation
crosses
the central elements of a ring and circle. We do not
believe it
could have been a hoax. Mr. and Mrs. Carson, who farm the
land, have
our full support in repudiating the suggestion of trickery.
Yours faithfully, RALPH NOYES
(Honorary Secretary, Centre for Crop Circle Studies),

Tokyo scientist rustles up corn circle

Yoshi-Hiko Ohtsuki By Nick Nuttall, Technology
Correspondent

A JAPANESE scientist who has been enthralled by the

annual
appearance of crop circles in Britain has created the
phenomenon in
his laboratory. The shapes, identical to those which started
to re-
appear last week, were made without the assistance of
UFOs, farmers'
lads, rutting deer, frenzied hedgehogs or any of the other
exotic
theories which have sprung up around the phenomenon.

Yoshi-Hiko Ohtsuki used a machine which he developed to

produce ball
lightning. The professor of physics at Waseda university,
Tokyo,
has thus helped to confirm theories proposed last year by
Terence
Meaden, former associate professor of physics at
Dalhousie
university in Halifax, Canada, and founder of the Tornado
Storm
Research Organisation at Oxford polytechnic.

Dr. Meaden suggested, to gales of derision by lovers of

more
outlandish explanations, that the topography and climate
of such
counties as Wiltshire and Hampshire triggered the formation
of mini-
whirlwinds. As they broke down over fields, he
suggested, a
doughnut-shaped eddy within the column swept
downwards, swirling the
crop.

Page 4

Dr. Meaden said yesterday that Professor Ohtsuki, who first

visited
Britain two years ago to examine the phenomenon, had
told him in a
letter that he fired mini-whirlwinds over plates of fine
aluminium
powder in his ball-lightning machine to replicate the swirls.

The findings have been lent further weight by another

Japanese
scientist, Tokio Kikuchi of Kochi university, who has
developed a
mathematical model based on Dr Meaden's theory which
has been shot
on video. It also creates more complex shapes, similiar to
those
that have appeared in recent years.

Supporters of more exotic theories had said that a scientific

basis
for corn circles is defied by these complicated
configurations. Dr.
Meaden believes that the final answer to the circles'
complexities
might be found in the appearance of sun spots which
lead to
electromagnetic changes in the Earth's atmosphere and
crust.

If so, the number of complicated corn circles may fall

over the
coming years. Solar activity is believed to be on the point
of
declining from a 200 - year peak. (c) Times Newspapers

LONDON'S most famous occult bookshop, Waktins, is

having no truck
with the Southampton hoaxsters who confessed to
newspapers yesterday
that they were responsible for the mystery of the corn
circles.
``The newspapers are full of lies,'' said an angry spokesman
for the
shop, which specialises in books on magic, astrology and
psychic
phenomena. The enigma remains, insists the shop. So, too,
will its
window display, erected last week, of books on crop
circles,
explaining the phenomenon by reference to aliens from
outer space,
energy currents and other causes far more plausible than
two men
