According to me, SBI group has a better CSR since it focuses on environmental issues and
the impact of certain hazardous products on the environment. SBI group also focuses on
certain social issues such as dowry marriage. Moreover, the leading banking group also
focuses on the health facilities of mothers, child(new born), physically disabled which is
quite essential or otherwise it will be unhygienic. Though it is noteworthy to mention that
SBI group contributes only 1% of their total profits for CSR activities, still they are able to
carry out many important activities. Bank also donates to Prime Minister and Chief
Minister’s Relief Fund for natural calamities and disasters. In 2013, the bank has donated

1,40,000 fans to 14,000 schools. Some of the notable beneficiaries of bank are:

HealthCare and Medical Facilities:

Hospital on train : Life Line express

The vast majority of rural population is deprived of basic medical facilities due to lack of
healthcare infrastructure in these parts of the country. We have partnered with Impact India
Foundation to take free medical treatment which includes surgeries conducted for the restoration
of sight, movement, hearing, correction of facial deformities and the prevention and treatment of
epilepsy and dental problems, all free of cost, to the underprivileged in remote areas using
world’s first state of art hospital on train “Life Line express”. Life Line Express was started in
2017 in thre remote areas out of which Junagarh Rd. Bhavanipatna, Kalahandi district in Odisha
and Kazipet, Warangal district in Telangana. It is worth-mentioning that Goalpara of Assam has
also been included in this list.

(b) SBI Life- Thalassemia Control and Prevention Programme

SBI Foundation has partnered with Indian Medical and Scientific Research Foundation for
conducting 20,000 high performance Liquid Chromatography ( HPLC) Thalassemia tests in
Rajkot, Saurashtra Region, Gujarat. The main objectives of the project are:

To create an eco-system that develops Social and Institutional processes to mitigate the damages
of Thalassemia and

To reduce the incidence of inherited blood disease, thereby, preventing Thalassemia major births.

(c) Sanjeevani: Clinic on Wheels

The majority of population in rural India is deprived of primary healthcare facilities due to lack
of accessibility. SBI Foundation has introduced SBI Sanjeevani, ‘Clinic on Wheels’ Mobile
medical van, with Bhavishya Bharat NGO, which is equipped with state-of-the-art multispecialty
healthcare facilities at the door step of remote rural communities.

(d) Swachh Belur Math

Absence of toilets leads to open defecation with untreated human waste, posing serious risk
to health. SBI Foundation has partnered with Ramakrishna Mission and started the
construction of toilet block comprising of approx. 203 toilets at new Pilgrims Abode at Belur
Math, Kolkata.

SBI Foundation has partnered with Education Support Organsiation (ESO) to further the
common goal of providing quality education to slum children.

SBI Virtual Eye

To meet to the needs of the visually impaired children, SBIF is providing assistive technology
infrastructure with the help of enabling computer learning solution to visually impaired
students from 3 Blind Schools in Hyderabad district of Telangana state.

Beti Padhao Kendras

As we are all aware that the Girl Child (Beti) in India are neglected and they are deprived of
many things and one of the most important things she is missing out on is Education. To
address this issue, SBI foundation has started “200 BETI PADAO KENDRAs (BPK)” in
association with IIMPACT, an NGO started by alumni of 1978 batch of IIM Ahmadabad.
These Beti Padao Kendras are aimed at imparting basic education (upto class 5) to girl
children in remote rural areas where there are no formal schools.

Skills and Livelihood Development

SBI Kaushal Vikas

In India, many of the educated youths are unemployed and they are not able to show their
talents which could have impacted the society to a great extent. Again, the students which are
not bright in studies but have other talents are also not encouraged in our society. Therefore
SBI has started a skill development project which helps in all-round development of these
people. Under the project “Kaushal Vikas”, SBI Foundation provides for skill development
training of youth with emphasis on SC, ST & women.

Sustainability & Environment

Project SBI Corbett

Project SBI Corbett will be implemented for creating systems of waste management (including
awareness & waste collection) for the rural community around Corbett Tiger Reserve and at the
same time conducting training for SHG workers for waste collection and conducting research
for zero waste management.

SBI CSR ACTIVITIES IN NORTH-EAST

The contribution of the State Bank of India to CSR activities is the highest in the North
East, said PVSLN Murty, Chief General Manager of SBI NE Circle. In the financial year
ending March 2016, SBI had spent Rs 8.25 crore for various CSR projects in the region.
Murty pointed out that this amount was higher than that spent by any of the total 14
circles in the country.

Most of this CSR budget was earmarked for activities relating to empowerment of the girl
child, health and sanitation, skill development training and education for the backward
and deprived segments of society. Initiatives for training of candidates for interviews,
providing fans to girls’ schools and honouring teachers were taken up by SBIPA zonal/unit
offices located in Silchar, Goalpara and Dhubri.

As part of its commitment to boost healthcare, the Guwahati (metro) region of the State
Bank of India distributed 50 wheelchairs and 50 stretchers trolleys to various health
centres and hospitals here on Wednesday.

A programme in this connection was organised by the regional business office, Guwahati
Metro, to felicitate 10 government non-profit health centres and hospitals under its area
of operation. Samir Kumar Sinha, state commissioner and secretary, health, handed over
the items to hospitals such as B. Borooah Cancer Institute, MMC Hospital, Marwari
Maternity Hospital, Red Cross Hospital, LGB Chest Hospital, Government Ayurvedic
Hospital, Gauhati University Campus Hospital, Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Azara 30
bed Hospital and ESIC Hospital.
Project “SBI Sanjeevani – Clinic on Wheels” has been initiated to provide healthcare to
tribal population of Namchi and Ravong blocks of Sikkim through a “Mobile medical van”
which is equipped with state-of-the-art multispecialty healthcare facilities available at the
their door step. Through this SBI Sanjeevani project, SBI Foundation will provide primary
healthcare services to around 50,000 underprivileged community dwellers of South
Sikkim.

The location is the Nagarjan Block of Dimapur city which is divided into 10 wards. The
household population is roughly about 2000 and the population is about 8000. The
garbage pile of many years has threatened the existence of Dhansiri River, with each rainy
season some of the wastes gets into the river flow and contaminates the river. The present
project is designed to deal with this problem as well as the problem of growing
unemployment among school and college drop out among youth. The sustainability
aspects include a “Pay-for-service” user charge collection as well as composting the
biodegradable waste to market it and create an income source for the youth.

In the area of Sustainabilty and Environment, SBI Group has started a new project called “
Haritha Kalingduar”. Since increasing urbanization in NE region has lead to deforestation
which resulted in elephants moving to areas, where people live, in search of water and
food. This has caused massive destruction to forests, crops, infrastructures and human
lives. Consequently, in order to save manki8ng, elephants were shot, poisoned, stoned and
harassed. SBI Foundation under one of Focus area environment and sustainability has
partnered with Balipara Tract and Frontier Foundation in the afforestation project phase –
I, in Udalguri district of Assam, adjacent to Khalingduar project forest by planting 1.5
lakhs trees in 150 hectare areas covering 12 villages viz. Mwainguri, Bormukuli,
Umananda in the Udalguri districts of Assam.
