The University of Texas at El Paso is just a few minutes away from Mexico which has
brought together some issues and one of them is including malnutrition. Even though El Paso
offers many help benefits for people who experience food insecurity, there are still people in the
United States who suffer from hunger. To my understanding, hunger is when people face an
major, I want to know if the education program at the university is doing anything concerning the
people who suffer from food insecurity, and if there are students in the education program who
are affected by hunger. Are there any organizations, programs, or even meetings that take place
here at UTEP concentrating on hunger? I hope to discover that UTEP does do a great deal for our
students who come starving to school and have or are currently having issues with food
insecurity. I believe that good health is needed to be energetic and capable of learning and I
really hope students in my college have sufficient food to have a bright experience in school.
There should be more organizations in my university to not only help students in a positive way
Research Questions
1. What does hunger look like in my community in the University of Texas at El Paso
2. Are there organizations in UTEP that are specifically for students who suffer from
hunger?

Cady, C. (2016). Starving for Knowledge: Why Campuses Need to Address Student Food
Cady has based her article defending how to her it is important for campuses to address
food insecurity among students because hunger impacts learning outcomes as well as
student and community wellness. Also, this article has a big impact and well talks about
how struggles of students who are experiencing food insecurity are from challenges like
low family income, lack of financial aid, high tuition and cost of living, or personal
emergencies. The author has explained and given different examples of people who
experience hunger and she has created her opinions on why she thinks they face hunger.
Not only did she do her research, but she talked about food pantries which can serve
thousands of students. The author claimed how food insecurity is a symptom of a larger
social illness, poverty, which also needs to be addressed. In this article, the main point is
the importance of teaching students to learn about hunger because it is a problem today,
and for students to learn of help programs that are open to students.
Mears, A. (2011). Hunger. The North American Review, 296(1), 34-36. Retrieved from

According to Mears, there are other things that can feed us, and hunger that feeds itself.
Mears explained the different kinds of hunger which in her opinion does not only
include food but also, other things like love, friendships and desire. Mears had
given examples of what different type of experiences or things can make someone feel
full. The author gave examples of people to help the reader personally understand what
other people have gone through. This detailed analysis on Hunger can help people learn

about how people can have different ideas of what hunger really is.
Orr Boyd, J. (1953) The White Man’s Dilemma New York:Barnes & Noble
According to Orr the success of the freedom from hunger campaign shows that the people
are willing to follow government if they will take the initiative to a new era of peace. Orr
strongly argues what he thinks could be the right thing for the new world to make for the
world to help each other. Orr has studied a lot about food problems in the word, and
everything that surrounds it for example population, birth control, organizations, and
more. Orr believes that the main focus should be on the new techniques given to the
world if we want to become better and help each other. This book can help the readers
understand the concept of hunger and emotion towards the out world.
Rodrigo, A., Yolanda, H., Rubi, O. (2007). The Household Food Insecurity and Health
According to the authors, Hunger, a more severe form of food insecurity, may occur
when the members of a household start to skip meals or decrease their total food intake
due to the decreased food supply available to them. In this article a study was done to
households which have been living on the U.S. Mexico border. Based on the study done,
this article focused on how the prevalence of food insecurity in Hispanics and other low-
income minority groups were at least double and the national average was made. In this
article it gave the methods, materials, data analysis, data collection, and the results of the
people who were observed. This articles main focus was to come up with an answer of
how many people were affected by hunger on the U.S Mexico border. This case study can

Shetty, P. From food security to food and nutrition security: role of agriculture and farming
According to Prakash nutrition security, a later development was a much broader concept
since nutritious and safe diets alongside adequate biological and proper social
promote heath and prevent disease in adulthood. has written an article about how farming
systems can affect food security and nutrition security as well. Prakash has focused her
article talking about the research she has done on how people can increase farming
methods so that way people do not have to face hunger. Also, Prakash has focused some
of her article on some historical perspectives that today can still be used concerning
farming. In this article one of the biggest concepts were that food security has evolved
over time since the World War two and has changed according to the changing views
expressed at the time and through a sequence of definitions. As to defend her statements
the method Prakash used was that she had given many information that can defend her
statements and used resources to look deeper into hunger and farming. From this article,
people can learn methods to Farming and see how hunger can be eliminated but also, see
how people in this world are well concerned about methods to farm and want to show

According to Waltner and Lang the rise, shape, and sustainability of human civilizations
in the past ten centuries can redirect inked to our agriculture strategies that is how we
feed ourselves. The authors have talked about getting deep in a background of food,
health, agriculture, and farming and how all of those created what today is when people
face hunger. The authors have focused on the natural data of how many people live in this
world and how much food are farmed. The authors did their own research on the kinds of
agriculture being promoted by global traders tends to be energy inefficient and have used
that information logically to people facing hunger. The authors have also made research
in many kinds of companies and talked about what each company offers and based on the
information they have done science in this article to proof what they have learned. From
this article people can increase their knowledge on how many kinds of farming there are

origin consumed in the Netherlands during World War II. Journal of Ethnobiology and
Vortenbosh, Zwarte, Duistermaat, and Andel argue that during periods of severe hunger,
people resort to unconventional food that they do not or hardly eat in “normal” times, so

how one third of people on world war two faced hunger. This article has been mostly
focused on the interviews which were made 71 years later after the Second World War.
Hunger was still remembered after seven decades and the authors talk about how they
interviewed people who were still left and questions asked. This article has included data
collection and the methods that have been done, the results, the data analysis and their

discussion. The authors clearly conclude that their research shows that once crucial
knowledge on wild plants and hunger is still present with the left survivors on the World
War two. From this article, people can gain more knowledge on how people on the World
War not only faced the fear of war but also suffered from food insecurity.
Weinreb, L.et al. (2002). Hunger: It’s Impact on Children’s Health and Mental Health.Pediatrics,
According to the author’s, hunger, with its associated adverse consequences for children,
continues to be an important national problem. The author’s main focus was about the
observational study they had done on 408 children in Massachusetts to analyze how
many of them suffer from serious hunger. What the authors talk about is the process they
had done and the data collection they achieved, and the questions that were asked to the
children. At the end, the article focused on how the study went beyond previous research,
identifying the separate effect of child hunger on of the children lived through which
turned out that the mothers of this children who reported severe hunger were more likely
physically by hunger but also it can help people appreciate food and gain knowledge on
